John H. Aydt
Born September 8, 1914 - Died March 18, 1997
John H. Aydt, 82, of Nashville and formerly of Dahlgren, died at 10:20 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 1997, at St. Mary's Hospital in Clayton, Missouri. He was a founder, treasurer and bookkeeper of Nashville Milling Company in Nashville.
He was born on September 8, 1914, in Dahlgren, a son of Frank F. and Anastasia (Ewald) Aydt. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Nashville. He was a charter member and life member of the Knights of Columbus.
The funeral was at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 1997, at St. John's Catholic Church in Dahlgren. Fr. Alan Ruppert, Fr. Al Jerome and Msg. Meinrad Dunn officiated. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery in Dahlgren, with graveside military rites by American Legion Post 106. A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren.
Mr. Aydt is survived by two brothers, Herman Aydt of Nashville and Leo Aydt of Dahlgren; one sister, Agnus Aydt of Carlyle; and serveral nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Doris E. Mayberry
Born November 4, 1925 - Died March 19, 1997
Doris E. Mayberry, 71, of Carmi and formerly of McLeansboro, died at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 1997, at her home. She was a housewife.
She was born on November 4, 1925, in Hamilton County, a daughter of Gilbert and Nellie (Smith) Church. She was married to Donald Mayberry, who died on June 1, 1990.
Private graveside services were held on Saturday, March 22, 1997, at 1:00 p.m. at IOOF Cemetery under direction of Gholson Funeral Home. Rev. Stephen Rudolph officiated.
Mrs. Mayberry is survived by one son, Jerry Mayberry and wife Kay of Carmi; one brother, Charles Church and wife Sue of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Mary Lou Morgan and husband Bob of Mt. Vernon, and Janice Mangers and husband James of Aurora, Illinois; and two grandchildren, Amy and Jennifer Mayberry.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two infant twin daughters, two brothers and four sisters.

Ray Hampton
Born March 26, 1923 - Died March 22, 1997
Ray E. "Snort" Hampton, 73, of Enfield, died at 4:55 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 1997, at the Hamilton Memorial Hospital. He was a retired licensed practical nurse, having worked at Elgin State hospital in Elgin.
He was born on March 26, 1923, in Hamilton County, a son of Ray and Grace (Moore) Hampton. He married Billie Sharpe in 1944, and she died in 1980. On June 11, 1982, he married Anita Martin, who survives. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #677 in Enfield, Scottish Rites of Southern Illinois, AINAD Temple of East St. Louis and Sword of Bunker Hill, American Legion Post #106. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of McLeansboro Eagles Lodge #2699, Elks Lodge #1882, DAV #51, Benton and Albion Moose Club #621.
There were Masonic services at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 24, 1997, during visitation. The funeral was at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 1997, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Rev. Robert Sefried officiated. Burial in Brush Harbor Cemetery with graveside military rites by American Legion Post #106.
Mr. Hampton is survived by his wife Anita; one son, Danny Hampton and wife Dana of Elgin; two daughters, Rowena Scott of McLeansboro and Mary Jordan and Husband Dave of Carmi; step-children, Larry Moles and wife Donna of McLeansboro, Jimmy Moles and wife Anita of McLeansboro, Gary Moles of McLeansboro, Charlotte Martin and Leroy Griffin of New Castle, Wyo.; five brothers, Edward Hampton of McLeansboro, Ralph Hampton of Riverside, California, Marion Hampton of Mattoon, Illinois, Noel Dean Hampton of Belvidere, Illinois, Rev. Stanley Creighton Hampton of Carmi, Illinois; one sister, Ruby Rose of Springerton, Illinois; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Donald I. Ross
Born October 4, 1922 - Died March 19, 1997
Donald I. Ross of Miami, Florida, and formerly of McLeansboro, died March 19, 1997 at his home. He was a retired businessman.
He was born on October 4, 1922, in McLeansboro, son of J. Floyd and Nellie (Irwin) Ross. He was married on December 24, 1941, to Ruth Rakayco, who survives. He attended grade school and high school in McLeansboro, where he graduated, and was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He attended Ten Mile Baptist Church as a youth.
The funeral was a private service held in Miami.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Linda K. Ross and Connie A. Ross, both of Miami; four sisters, May Ross of Enfield, Edith Bechtel and Dorothy Wood, both of Phoenix, Arizona, and Bertie L. Honlon of Las Vegas, Nevada; one brother, Arley Ross of Phoenix; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marie Beck.

Alexander Lodus

Alexander Lodus, 91, of St. Louis and formerly of Dahlgren, died at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 1997, in the Lutheran Medical Center in St. Louis.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren.

Phoeba Evelyn Trotter
Born June 23, 1911 - Died March 30, 1997
Phoeba Evelyn Trotter of Dahlgren, died at 7:18 a.m. on Sunday, March 30, 1997, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. She worked several years in the McLeansboro dress factories and was a homemaker.
She was born on June 23, 1911, in Crouch Township, Hamilton County, a daughter of William T. S. "Will" and Mariah Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Gwaltney) Turner. She was married to Naaman J. Trotter on December 11, 1929, in Peoria, and he survives. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dahlgren.
The funeral was at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 1997, at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren. Revs. Frank Trotter, Joe Nogalski and Ron Trotter officiated. Burial was in the IOOF Cemetery in Dahlgren.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Trotter is survived by two sons, Bill Trotter and wife Betty of Belle Rive and Ralph Trotter and wife Doris of Dahlgren; one sister, Ethel Garrison of Metamora, Illinois; four grandchildren, David Trotter of Belle Rive, Diane Haile, Bethany, Illinois, Nancy Davis, Mt. Vernon, and Rev. Ron Trotter of Dahlgren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Otis and Ivan Turner, and one sister Anna Rose.

Venita Joyce Brinkley
Died March 31, 1997
Venita Joyce Brinkley of McLeansboro died at 1:35 p.m. on Monday, March 31, 1997, at her home.
Having earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in business education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, she was a teacher at McLeansboro High School for 34 years, retiring in 1990. She was an active member of P.E.O., the Rend Lake College Foundation, the Hamilton County Historical Society and the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
At her request there was no visitation; interment services were conducted at the family mausoleum in the IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 1997.
Services were under the direction of Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
She is survived by her husband William J. Brinkley; her mother, Neva Stroud Schwarm of Marion, Illinois; one brother, Lewis "Sonny" Schwarm of Marion, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Murrel Schwarm; and one sister, Patsy Clark.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Vernon.

Mary (Heller) Carey
Born August 20, 1897 - Died March 20, 1997
Mary (Heller) Carey, 99, of Almena, Wisconsin, formerly of McLeansboro, died March 20, 1997, at Golden Age Manor in Amery, Wisconsin.
Born August 20, 1897, in Almena, Wisconsin, she was a daughter of Matthias and Anna (Shone) Heller. She married James Carey in Almena and he preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on March 24, 1997, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Almena, Wisconsin, with Father John Spanjers officiating. Burial was in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Almena.
Mrs. Carey was survived by several nieces and nephews.

Florence "Tina" Anselment
Born March 22, 1917 - Died April 1, 1997
Florence "Tina" Anselment, 80, of Bethalto and formerly of McLeansboro, died at 2:25 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 1997, at Jerseyville Manor in Jerseyville, Illinois.
She was born on March 22, 1917, in Hamilton County, a daughter of George and Katherine (Rubenacker) Roesch. On September 7, 1937, in Piopolis, she married Martin J. Anselment, who died in 1967. She was a housewife and a member of St. John's Church in Piopolis.
The funeral was at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, 1997, at St. John's. Rev. Joseph Lawler officiated. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Schild of Greenfield, Illinois, and Joyce Schilly of Collinsville; two sisters, Lucina Coy of Dahlgren and Betty Lueke of McLeansboro; four grandchildren, Kristie Schmidt, Lisa Kreher, Tim Kreher, and Alice Emberton, and one step-great-grandson.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, three sisters and one grandchild.
