Illinois, U.S., County Marriage Records, 1800-1940

Gibson 09/06/99
Elsie Gibson, 97, died Sept. 6, 1999, in Rosewood Care Center in Alton. Her husband, Thomas, preceded her in death.
Surviving are a son, Thomas, Jr., of Godfrey; and daughters, Helen Hamlin of Rolla, Mo., and Norma Hootman of LaPorte, TX.
Services were in Gent Funeral Home in Alton.
Memorials may be given to the Arthritis Foundation.

Gihring 05/13/01
Dorothy E. Gihring, 79, of Meadowbrook, died May 13, 2001, in the Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. Her husband, Harold, preceded her in death. Surviving are sons, Ken of Peoria, and Don of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, Henry Glassmeyer of Alton; and a sister, Edna Schulte of Meadowbrook. Services were through Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Memorials may be given to mission fund of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto, and Lutheran Hour Ministries.

Byers 04/25/97
Edna Byers, 98, of Alton, died Apr. 25, 1997, in Alton Memorial Hospital. Her husband, Ray, preceded her in death.
Surviving are a daughter, Jane Stites of Alton; sisters, Hazel Holmes of Wood River, and Dorothy Batchelor of Alton; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were in Gent Funeral Home in Alton.
Memorials may be given to Cherry Street Baptist Church and charities of choice.

Byron 06/21/97
Gerald E. Byron, 92, of Alton, died June 21, 1997, in Alton Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by a brother-in-law, Eugene Melling; and a sister-in-law, Bertha Byron of Wood River.
Services were through Gent.

Caffery 01/08/00
Ruth Viola Caffery, 82, of East Alton, died Jan. 8, 2000, in Eldercare of Alton.
Her husband, William, preceded her in death.
Surviving are a son, James of Godfrey; daughters, Betty Arbuthnot and Frances Steward, both of Cottage Hills, and Mary Barks of Charlotte, N.C.; and half-sisters, Shirley Moore and Gertrude Herrin, both of Highland, Mary Steward and Emma Albers, both of Wilsonville, and Reba Tuey of Florida. Services were through Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Alton.
Memorials may be given to Mississippi Valley Christian School and the Salvation Army.

Gildersleeve 10/19/00
Raymond B. Gildersleeve, 53, of Bethalto, died Oct. 19, 2000, in Alton Memorial Hospital.
He married Linda Dawdy, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Dennis of Bunker Hill; a daughter, Tana Webber of Alton; and brothers, Larry and Donald, both of Danville, and Charles of Stoughton, Wi.
Services were in Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association.

Giles 02/03/97
Esther L. Giles, 78, died Feb. 3, 1997.
Her husband, Henry, survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Barbara Brown of Godfrey; a sister, Minnie Reynolds of Alton; and one grandchild.
Services were in Gent Funeral Home in Alton.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Gilkison 03/17/00
Lucille Z. Gilkison, 91, of Alton, died Mar. 17, 2000, in Eunice Smith Nursing Home.
Her husband, Isaac, preceded her in death.
Surviving are a son, Donald of Godfrey; daughters, Juanita Tucker of Godfrey, and Margery Saksa of Palatine; a brother, Gowdy Biggs of Greenview; and a sister, Lois Sablotny of Lincoln.
Services were in Gent Funeral Home in Alton.
Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church in Godfrey.

Dorsey 08/24/99
Ralph Edward Dorsey, 72, of Alton, died Aug. 24, 1999, in D'Adrian Convalescent Home in Godfrey.
He married Edith Schleeper, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Mark of Alton; daughters, Donna Cunningham and Karen DeGrand, both of Alton, and Barbara Murphy of Godfrey; and a sister, Norma Evans of Alton.
Services were through Gent Funeral Home in Alton.
Memorials may be given to the building fund of St. Matthew's Church in Alton, and for masses.

Doss 05/24/98
Myra May Doss, 85, of Alton, died Aug. 24, 1998, in Saint Anthony's Health Center in Alton.
Her husband, Paul, preceded her in death.
Surviving are daughters, Dorothy Brown of Brighton, and Louetta Lippard of Bethalto.
Services were through Fine and Quinn Chapel for Funerals in Alton.
Memorials may be given to charities of choice.

Douglas 03/21/97
Daniel Douglas, 74, died Mar. 21, 1997.
He married Vivian Cranmer, who survives.
Also surviving are daughters, Rebecca Stewart of Florissant, Mo., and Donna Bailey of Seminole, Fl.; and eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were in Gent's.
Memorials may be given to charities of choice.
