Bethany Nicole Guebert, 18, of Red Bud, died November 13, 2005, in Red Bud. She was born April 16, 1987, in St. Louis, the daughter of Mark and Sharon Guebert nee Juelfs of Red Bud. She was survived by her parents; brother Eric Guebert of Sparta; grandmothers Shirley Juelfs of Red Bud and Nina Guebert of Red Bud; boyfriend Jason Markotay of Sparta; and an aunt, uncles, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister Kimberly Guebert, maternal grandfather Gene Juelfs, paternal grandfather Edwin Guebert, uncle Daniel Guebert and great-grandparents. Ms. Guebert was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and St. John’s Youth Group. She was in the FFA, 4-H Federation and National Honor Society. She was a college student and worked at Ruma Convent. Visitation was at Koch-Liefer Funeral Home in Red Bud. A funeral service was at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Bud.

Raymond M. Kohlmeier, 83, of Waterloo, died November 15, 2005, in Waterloo. He was born September 23, 1922, in Waterloo, the son of the late Theodore and Sophia Kohlmeier nee Hohnbaum. He was married to Lillian Kohlmeier nee Thorburg. He is survived by his wife; children Leon (Kathleen) Kohlmeier of Waterloo, Karen Kohlmeier of Waterloo, and Sandra Kohlmeier of St. Louis; grandchildren Candice Kohlmeier, Cara Lee Kohlmeier, Clint Kohlmeier, Carin Kohlmeier and Ebony Sherod; sister Audrey Hoffmann of Waterloo; brothers Sylvester (Clara) Kohlmeier of Waterloo, Fremond Kohlmeier of Waterloo, and Wilbert Kohlmeier of Waterloo; brother-in-law Lewis Lich of Waterloo; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Lorena P. Lich. Mr. Kohlmeier was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Wartburg. He was a member of Waterloo VFW Post #6504 and Waterloo American Legion. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral services were at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Wartburg, Pastor Stuart Rethwisch officiating. He is buried at Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery in Wartburg. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Cemetery Fund of Holy Cross Nativity Fund.

Barbara A. Buettner nee Wilson, 61, of Hecker, died November 16, 2005, in Red Bud. She was born October 21, 1944, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Thomas and Anna Wilson nee Klinger. She was married to Lloyd Buettner. She is survived by her husband; children Wendy (James) Maag of Waterloo, Lyle (Christine) Buettner of Collinsville, and Renee (Doug) Minton of Howard’s Grove, Wisc.; grandchildren Leah Maag, John Maag, Luke Buettner, Cynthia Buettner, Logan Buettner, Gabriel Minton and Anna Minton; sister Jeanette (Mark) Pflueger of Red Bud; brothers William (Barbara) Wilson of New Athens and Ronald (Kathy) Wilson of Hecker; and sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, an aunt, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mrs. Buettner was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Wartburg, where she was involved with Ladies Aid and Altar Guild. She was a former member of Monroe County Ambulance Service and a former Thrivent officer. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral services were at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Pastor Stuart Rethwisch officiating. She is buried at Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery in Wartburg. Memorials may be made to Tim Beckendorf Ministries of Lutheran Bible Translators, Camp Wartburg or Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Wartburg.

Reverend Joseph D. Hansmann, 69, of Hecker, died November 16, 2005, in Belleville. He was born June 24, 1936, in Lawrenceville, the son of the late Joseph F. and Magnolia Hansmann nee DeWeese. He was pastor of St. Michael Church in Paderborn and St. Augustine Church in Hecker. He was ordained June 2, 1962. Visitation was at St. Augustine of Canterbury Church in Hecker. A funeral mass was at St. Augustine of Canterbury Church, Bishop Edward Braxton officiating. He is buried at Lawrenceville City Cemetery in Lawrenceville. Memorials may be made to St. Augustine of Canterbury Church in Hecker of St. Michael’s Church in Paderborn.

Daniel W. Cheek, 78, of Evansville, died November 17, 2005, in Chester. He was born July 3, 1927, in Valmeyer, the son of the late Elta and Sarah Cheek nee Osborn. He was married to Dolly Cheek. He is survived by his wife; children Ann (John) Holland of Tilden, George (Pat) Cheek of Evansville, Kenneth (Charlene) Cheek of Nakomas, Daniel (Marilyn) Cheek of Lawton, Okla., Sandra Jeff of Cleveland, Ohio, Donna (Donald) Davis of Dover, Ark., Robert R. (Brenda) Cheek of Waterloo, Betty (Tom) Bievenue of Prairie du Rocher, Linda (Norman) Robert of Evansville, Pamela (Greg) Selleck of Alma, Colo., Tina (Mike) Porter of Red Bud, Laura (Larry) Willcutt of Jerusalem, Ark., and Aaron Cheek of Perryville; 45 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law Mary Cheek of Perryville, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, son John Michael Cheek, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three sisters, and two brothers. Mr. Cheek was a member of New Life Church of Waterloo. He was a retired member of Local 520. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral services were at New Life Church in Waterloo, Pastor David Eckstadt officiating. He is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.

Larry Michaels, 59, of Waterloo, died November 17, 2005, in St. Louis. He was born June 9, 1946, in Paris, Tex., the son of the late Gertrude and Lawrence Michaels. He was married to Laurie Michaels. He is survived by his children Kim (Paul) Tervydis, Kristin (Charles) Stark, Kerri (Troy) Busby, and Kimberly (Mitch) Thompson; two granddaughters; sisters-in-law Cindy (Rod) Sanderson and Julie Diener; mother- and father-in-law Jean and Bill Diener. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Paul. Visitation and funeral services were at Quernheim Funeral Home. He is buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo.

Arnold L. Kuergeleis, 82, of Columbia, died November 19, 2005, in St. Louis. He was born July 9, 1923, in Valmeyer, the son of the late George and Rosa Kuergeleis nee Diehl. He was married to Ellen Kuergeleis nee Altes. He is survived by his wife; children Thomas H. (Susan) Kuergeleis of Columbia, and Bonnie (Steve) Thom of Minneapolis, Minn.; grandchildren Amy (Joshua) Mistler, Jennifer Kuergeleis, Amanda Kuergeleis and Caleb Thom; great-grandchildren Molly Mistler and Jameson Mistler; and sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Harold Kuergeleis. Mr. Kuergeleis was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Maeystown. He was also a member of Monroe County Farm Bureau and Turner’s Association. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral services were at St. John United Church of Christ, Pastor Ivan Horn and Pastor Bob Goddard officiating. He is buried at St. John Cemetery in Maeystown. Memorials may be made to St. John United Church of Christ in Maeystown or St. Paul Untied Church of Christ in Columbia.

Ervin O. Kossina, 90, of Columbia, died November 21, 2005, in St. Louis. He was born June 13, 1915, in Waterloo, the son of the late John W. and Louise Kossina nee Luber. He married Leona Kossina nee Ries in 1942; she survived him. He is also survived by his son James (Mary Helen) Kossina of Collinsville; grandson Robert Kossina; granddaughter Angela Kossina; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Kossina was retired from the City of Columbia maintenance department. He was a member of American Legion Post #581, V.F.W. Post #6368 of Dupo, Columbia Senior Citizens, Columbia Sportsman’s Club and Columbia Gymnastic Association. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. A graveside service was held at Jefferson Barrack National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to American Legion Post #581 Park Fund.

Esther L. Lungwitz nee Bennett, 74, of Columbia, died November 21, 2005, in Columbia. She was born September 21, 1931, in East St. Louis, the daughter of the late William and Ruth Bennett nee Peterson. She married Russell F. Lungwitz in 1950. She is survived by her husband; daughter Gelene Lungwitz of Barnhart, Mo.; son Dean (Barbara) Lungwitz of Dupo; grandchildren Deanna M. (Andrew) Dennes of Columbia and Emily R. Lungwitz of Dupo, sister Nora Ruth Bennett of Columbia; sister-in-law Lillian L. Faucett of Manhattan Beach, Calif., special friends Mary K. Mickey of Barnhart, Mo., and Mabel and Farrol McPheeters of Dupo; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother William Bennett, half-sister Dorothy Fellows, and mother- and father-in-law Elsie C. and Paul A. Lungwitz. Mrs. Lungwitz was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbia. She had worked at Eberhard’s Restaurant and the MarketPlace in Columbia. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral services were at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Rev. Steven Theiss and Rev. Edward Melchoir officiating. She is buried at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Columbia. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund.

Paula DuFrenne McReynolds, 39, of Jupiter, Fla., formerly of Red Bud, died November 21, 2005, in Red Bud. She was born September 13, 1966, in Red Bud, the daughter of Donald and Audrey DuFrenne nee Deterding. She was married to Michael McReynolds. She is survived by her parents; husband; sisters Pam (Ron) Pechacek of Chester and Sherry (Tim) Lowry of Red Bud; brother Dean DuFrenne of Red Bud; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Mary Pat (Tom) Kuchan of Chalfont, Penn., John (Mary) McReynolds of Sun City, Ariz., Katie (Michael) Kiefer of Glen View, Julie McReynolds of Chalfont, Penn., Jeanne (Craig) Conte of Libertyville, and Matthew McReynolds of Chalfont, Penn.; nieces and nephews Elizabeth (Jason) Ohlau, Derek Pechacek, Megan Lowry, Morgan Lowry, Meagan Kuchan, Timmy Kuchan, Molly Kuchan, Billy McReynolds, Matthew McReynolds, Maggie McReynolds, Kevin Kiefer, Ryan Kiefer, David McReynolds and Kellie Conte; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother- and father-in-law Horace and Patricia McReynolds. Mrs. McReynolds was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Jupiter and a former member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud. She was a member of the Religious Education Department at St. Peter Catholic Church. She was a 1984 graduate of Gibault Catholic High School. She was a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and enjoyed watching them at Spring Training. She loved being with her family and friends. Visitation was at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Red Bud. A funeral mass was at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud, Fr. Tom Stout officiating. She is buried at St. John Catholic Cemetery in Red Bud. Memorials may be made to Gibault Catholic High School or St. Peter Religious Education Department.
