Indiana Marriages, 1780-1992

Robert F. White

Apr. 24, 1921-Aug. 14, 2001

Robert Franklin “Bob” White died Tuesday, August 14 at Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia, Ga. He was born on April 24, 1921.

The Knightstown native lived in Vidalia for 31 years. He was a 1939 graduate of Knightstown High School, graduate of Purdue University and a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity.

White was a retired livestock buyer and owned several buying stations in the Vidalia area. He was a captain in the Army, served in WW II and was a combat veteran of the 63rd Infantry Artillery Division. He received two Bronze Stars. White was a member of Vidalia First United Methodist Church, Elks Club, Vidalia Kiwanis Club, American Legion and Vidalia Country Club.

Survivors are his wife, Virginia G. White; a daughter, Anne W. Gillis of Athens; a son Stephen F. White of Jonesboro, Ga.; a sister, Mary Pennington of Knightstown; a brother, Harry White of Knightstown; and five grandchildren.

Services were held Friday, August 17 at the Vidalia First UMC with burial in Pinecrest Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation was held Thursday, Aug. 16 at Murchison Funeral Home in Vidalia.

Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, Vidalia or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Dessie Hamilton Parker

Apr. 25, 1924-Aug. 14, 2001

Dessie Hamilton Parker, 77, of Olive Hill, Ky., died Tuesday, August 14 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

She was born April 25, 1924 in Carter County to the late Albert and Essie Frances Masters Glover.

She was retired from Cowden Sewing Factory and attended the East End Church of God. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning and cooking.

Survivors include her husband, Wylie Parker of Olive Hill; six sons, Robert E. “Bob” Hamilton of New Castle, Garry Hamilton and Terry Hamilton, both of Carthage, Roger Hamilton of Knightstown, and Jeffrey Hamilton and Timothy Hamilton, both of Morehead, Ky.; five daughters, Martha Richmond of Carthage, Joyce Hamm and Jennifer Riley, both of Olive Hill, Ky., Sandra Lavine of Sewell, N.J. and Sheila K. Davis of Morehead; one stepson; seven stepdaughters, one brother, John Stevens of Spiceland; two sisters, Carrie Jones and Marie Fannin, both of Carthage; 23 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Bruce Hamilton on March 13, 1990, two stepsons, one stepdaughter and one brother.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 18 at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Chris Russell and Don Rivers officiating. Burial was at Upper Flat Fork Church of Christ Cemetery in Carter County.

Wilman A. Scott

Feb. 13, 1922 - Aug. 25, 2001

Wilman A. Scott, 79, a former resident of the Straughn community, died August 25 at Odyssey Harbour House in Las Vegas, Nev.

Mr. Scott was born February 13, 1922 in Henry County but had lived in Nevada for the past eight years.

Mr. Scott retired from Alcoa Aluminum Co. of America in Richmond.

He is survived by his wife, Belle Miller Scott; one son, Charles Scott of New Castle; two daughters, Rosetta Shiflett and Janice Jordan of Richmond; a stepson, Milton E. Miller of Albuquerque, N.M.; a stepdaughter, Dixie Kersting from Kentucky; two brothers, Marvin of Knightstown and Charles Duard of Florida; three sisters, Beulah Oldham of Greenfield, Lela Kiplinger of California, and Rosalyn Bryant of Greenfield; five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

His first wife, Doris Hamon Scott and daughter Sandra Huffman preceded him in death.

Graveside services will be held later for the family. Donations may be made to Odyssey Hospice, A011 McLeod Dr., Las Vegas, Nev. 89121 in the name of Wilman A. Scott. Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Dublin is in charge of local arrangements.

Morris H. Jackson

Sept. 7, 1907-Aug. 21, 2001

Morris H. Jackson, 93, a resident of Clearwater, Fla. and a former resident of Shirley, died August 29 at Beverly Healthcare in Jonesboro, Ga.

Mr. Jackson was born September 2, 1907 in Maple Valley, the son of the late Robert B. and Verna B. (Morris) Jackson. He had owned and operated an auto repair shop in Shirley, a restaurant in Gatlinburg, Tenn., and was a member of the Shirley Masonic Lodge #531.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mary E. (Brooks) Jackson of Clearwater; one son, Jerry D. Jackson of Stockbridge, Ga.; a sister, Florence Reger of Knightstown; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one nephew and two nieces.

His brother Robert Jackson preceded him in death.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 4 at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown with Pastor James Jackson officiating. Condo and Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson were in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shirley Friends Church.

Frances E. McCorkle

Mar. 19, 1914 – Sept. 1, 2001

Frances E. McCorkle, 87, died Saturday, September 1 in Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. She was born March 19, 1914, the daughter of Charles and Vera (Noble) Warrick. On September 30, 1930, she married Howard I. McCorkle who preceded her in death.

Mrs. McCorkle lived all of her life in Rush County. She was a member of East Street Christian Church in Carthage where she served as secretary of the Christian Women’s Fellowship for 18 years. She was active in the Carthage Sewing Club, a homemaker, excellent seamstress and also enjoyed crocheting, quilting and crafts.

She is survived by a daughter, Donna J. (DelMonte) Wagner of Arlington; two brothers, Charles Warrick of Corydon, and Forrest Warrick of Brownsburg; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Besides her husband and parents, two daughters Norma Jean and Janet Carol McCorkle preceded her in death.

Services will be held Wednesday (today) at Todd Funeral Home, Carthage Chapel with Rev. David Bonne officiating. Burial will be in Town Cemetery, Carthage.

Visitation was Tuesday, September 4 from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the East Street Christian Church or the donors favorite charity.

Lenora M. Baker-Kline

Jan. 26, 1925 – Sept. 3, 2001

Lenora M. Baker-Kline, 76, a resident of Greenfield, died Monday, September 3 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield.

She was born January 26, 1925 in Spiceland, a daughter of the late Ralph and Eva (Murphy) Ramsey.

Mrs. Baker-Kline was retired from the Anderson Boling in Goshen. She owned a taxi service in Knightstown and was a waitress for several restaurants in Knightstown.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Russell C. Baker in 1959 and by her second husband Wilbur R. Kline in 1979.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 6 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Floyd Rowe officiating. Burial will be in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.

Visitation will be from Wednesday (today) from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kenrick A. Schweizer

Dec. 26, 1949 – Sept. 4, 2001

Kenrick A. Schweizer, 51, of New Castle and a former Knightstown resident, died Tuesday, September 4 at Henry County Memorial Hospital.

Schweizer was born December 26, 1949 in Richmond, a son of the late Kenrick A. Schweizer, Sr. and Dorothy Swaim Schweizer who survives.

He was a 1968 graduate of Knightstown High School and 1973 graduate of Murray State University. He was a member of the first football team at Knightstown High School in 1968 and a member of the semi-state baseball team in 1967. Ken was a Captain in the U.S. Army and had taught at Tri High School and coached basketball at both Tri and Knightstown.

Mr. Schweizer had served as vice president at both First National Bank and Bank One in Knightstown and at the time of his death, he was president of Kenrick Financial in New Castle. He was a member of the Knightstown American Legion.

Survivors besides his mother are one son, Ryan K. Schweizer of New Castle; two daughters, Jennifer A. Schweizer of Indianapolis and Jeannine Schweizer of Zionsville; one brother, Jeffrey E. Schweizer of Indianapolis; and two nephews, Aaron and Kenrick Schweizer of Indianapolis.

Services were held Saturday, September 8 at the Old Hoosier Gym in Knightstown with Rev. Mervin Kilmer officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by the Knightstown American Legion Post 152.

Visitation was held Friday, September 7 at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel.
