Rudy J. Miller

Rudy J. Miller, 78, of 14607 CR 20 Middlebury, IN died at 9:00 PM on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at his residence. Though he had been battling cancer for the past 2 ½ years, his death was unexpected. He was born January 29, 1930 in Middlebury, IN., to Jacob R. and Katie (Miller) Miller. On December 13, 1951 in Topeka, IN. he married Esther Schlabach. He was the founder of A & R Machine Shop, Middlebury where he still worked part time. He was a member of Old Order Amish Church. Survivors include his wife, Esther Miller and 3 Daughters, Ellen Rose & Ernie Lehman, LeEtta & Calvin Miller, Nora Sue & Wilbur Miller all of Middlebury, IN; 5 Sons, Marvin & Erma Miller, Delbert & Mary Miller, Wayne & Betsy Miller all of Middlebury, IN, Wilbur Lynn & Mary Lou Miller of Markesan, WI, Wyman & Alice Miller of Middlebury, IN; 60 Grandchildren, 90 Great Grandchildren; 2 Sisters, Ida Bontrager of Goshen, IN., Polly Miller of Middlebury, IN; Brother, Lloyd & Katie Miller of Middlebury, IN; Sister-in-law, Mable Miller of LaGrange, IN; Brother-in-law, LeRoy Schrock, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, a stillborn son: David Miller, a grandson: Delmer J. Lehman, 3 Great grandchildren, 4 brothers: Levi, David, Dan & Sam Miller and a sister: Anna Schrock. Visitation will be after 3 pm Thursday and all day Friday at the family residence. Funeral services will be at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at A & R Machine Shop, CR 20 Middlebury. Services will be conducted by the Bishop Daniel Bontrager and the home ministers. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, Goshen.

Olen W. Fry

Olen W. Fry, 75, of 13490 North East Shore Drive Syracuse, IN died at 7:00 AM on Friday, August 15, 2008 at his residence after a brief illness. He had lived in Syracuse for the past 4 years and was formerly of LaGrange. He was born November 9, 1932 in Haven, KS, to Willie D. and Mary Ellen (Miller) Fry. On June 19, 1966 he married Lucy J. Hostetler. He had worked as a plumber for several different area mobile home factories. He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, Syracuse and enjoyed fishing. Survivors include his wife, Lucy J. Fry and 2 Daughters, Vila & Randy Patterson of Syracuse, IN, Alesia & Vance Stees of Goshen, IN.; 3 Grandchildren; Brother, Andy & Barbara Fry of Shipshewana, IN.; 3 Sisters, Wilma & Freeman Hochstetler of Concord, AR, Lydia Riehl of LaGrange, IN, Katie & Dan Schwartz of Shipshewana, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Doris Fry and a brother, Emery Fry. Visitation will be from 1 - 7 PM on Sunday and one hour prior to the 10:00 A.M. funeral on Monday morning all at the Calvary United Methodist Church, Syracuse. Services will be conducted by the Rev’s. David B. Herr and Bob Jarboe. Burial will be in the Syracuse Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Kosciusko Home Care & Hospice.

Samuel H. Hoover Jr.

Samuel H. Hoover Jr., 82, of 313 Mill Street Middlebury, IN died at 12:06 PM on Monday, August 11, 2008 at Goshen General Hospital Goshen, IN., after a 1 day stay at the hospital. He was born June 23, 1926 in Middlebury, IN., to Samuel H., Sr. and Alta (Sunthimer) Hoover. On June 5, 1955 in Elkhart, IN. he married Shirley Rheinheimer. Mr. Hoover graduated from Middlebury High School in 1944 where he played varsity baseball and basketball. He joined the Army Signal Corps. after graduation and spent one year in Kobe, Japan. It was in Japan that he became a starting pitcher for his Army Base. He had the privilege of pitching in front of Gen. Dwight Eisenhower who had attended the game that day. After returning home, he received several offers to play baseball for the Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Indians, and former St. Louis Browns. He instead pursued his education at Indiana University, Bloomington where he lettered in baseball and graduated in 1951. He returned to Middlebury and taught 10 years in their school system. He then joined the First State Bank where he worked until his retirement after holding the offices of Vice President, President, and later Ch. of the Board and CEO. He was the third generation banker in the Hoover family which his grandfather, Charles Hoover, helped establish in the early 1900's. His many accomplishments included being a member of the Town Board, serving on the Board of the Hospital Authority of Elkhart County, original Director for the Elkhart County Foundation, Member of Elcona and Maplecrest Country Clubs, a lifetime member of the Middlebury Methodist Church where he served as Ad Board Chairman, Trustee and Sunday School Superintendent. He served many years on the Better Business Bureau of Elkhart County. He served as the Director of ADEC. He was inducted into the Elkhart County Sports Hall of Fame for his baseball accomplishments. He and his wife were Grand Marshal's for the Middlebury Parade in 2002. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 210, Middlebury. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Hoover and 3 Sons, Stanton & Patty Hoover of Middlebury, IN, Scott & Jane Hoover of Carmel, IN, Samuel, III & Jill Hoover of Middlebury, IN; 8 Grandchildren; Sister, Mary Hoover of Middlebury, IN. He was preceded in death by parents. Visitation will be from 2 - 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home and 1 hour prior to the funeral at the church. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 14, 2008 at First United Methodist Church, Middlebury, IN. Services will be conducted by Rev. Linda Craig of the church. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury with full military graveside serves performed by the Middlebury American Legion Post # 210. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church, Middlebury or the Middlebury Boy's and Girls Club.

Edna J. Frey

Edna J. Frey, 72, of 9120 West 300 South Topeka, IN died at 1:24 PM on Sunday, September 14, 2008 at the Maples at Waterford Crossing Goshen, IN, where she had stayed for the past 2 and a half weeks after suffering a stroke 4 weeks ago. She was born May 2, 1936 in LaGrange County, IN., to John and Anna (Yoder) Raber. On February 27, 1958 in LaGrange County, IN. she married Melvin Jay Frey. She was a Homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church. Survivors include her husband, Melvin Jay Frey and 5 Daughters, Ida Mae Frey of Topeka, IN, Freda & Enos Yoder of Inola, OK, Leanna & Al Fry of Shipshewana, IN., Sue & LaVern Graber of Middlebury, IN, Lena & E. Wayne Yoder of Topeka, IN; 4 Sons, John & Vivian Frey of Middlebury, IN, Daniel & Nettie Frey of Topeka, IN, Freeman & Delila Frey of Middlebury, IN, Jay & Laura Frey of Ligonier; 33 Grandchildren, 2 Great grandchildren; Sister, Ida & Levi Miller of Shipshewana, IN.; 3 Brothers, Levi & Betty Raber of Topeka, IN, Ervin & Clara Raber of Shipshewana, IN., Monroe & Naomi Raber of Topeka, IN. She was preceded in death by parents, a sister: Sue Troyer. Visitation will be after 3 PM Monday and all day Tuesday at the family residence. Funeral services will be at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at family residence. Services will be conducted by the Bishop Sam Beechy and the home ministers. Burial will be in Bontrager Cemetery, Shipshewana, IN.

Hannah Jean Mullet

Hannah Jean Mullet, 13 days, of 60151 East County Line Rd. Middlebury, IN died at 6:15 PM on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Parkview Hospital Ft. Wayne, IN. She was born August 31, 2008 in LaGrange, IN., to Nelson and Frieda (King) Mullet. Survivors include 2 Brothers, Gerald and Nathan Mullet both at home; 3 Sisters, Marla, Charlotte and Julie Mullet all at home; 2 Grandmothers, Wilma King of Middlebury, IN and Ina Marie Mullet of Nappanee, IN; Great Grandmother, Clara Burkholder of Nappanee, IN. She was preceded in death by a sister: Jolene R. Mullet, two grandfathers: Melvin B. King and Jonas D.E. Mullet. Visitation will be from 2 - 8 PM on Monday at the family residence. Funeral services will be at 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at Ivan King Residence, corner of CR 26 and East County Line Road, Middlebury. Services will be conducted by Bishop LeRoy Lehman and the home Ministers. Burial will be in Bontrager Cemetery, Middlebury.

Lizzie J. Eash

Lizzie J. Eash, 91, of 5415 West 700 South Topeka, IN. died at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at her residence, after a 1 week illness. She was born July 15, 1917 in Douglas County, IL., to Jacob J. and Catherine (Otto) Eash. She moved to this area in 1946 coming from Illinois. She was a homemaker and a member of Old Order Amish Church. Survivors include Sister, Emma Eash of Topeka, IN; Sister-in-law, Verna Eash of Ligonier, IN. She was preceded in death by parents, 2 sisters: Lavina Zook and Tillie Eash, 2 brothers: Henry & John Eash and 2 step-sisters: Anna Mast & Christina Herschberger. Visitation will be after 2 PM Sunday and all day Monday at the Clarence Miller Residence, 5415 West 700 South Topeka, IN. Funeral services will be at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at the same residence. Services will be conducted by the Bishop John Eash and the home ministers. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, LaGrange.

Shaun Allen Bradley

Shaun Allen Bradley, 20, of 2540 North 900 West Shipshewana, IN. died at 4:14 PM on Friday, September 12, 2008 as the result of injuries he sustained in a moped/auto accident at the intersection of CR 28 & CR 35, Middlebury, I . He was born May 12, 1988 in Goshen, IN., to Bruce Allen and Lori (Whetstone) Bradley. He was currently working at McDonald's, Middlebury where he had worked for the past year and a half . Shaun was very active in the Pathway Assembly of God Youth Group, he was a 2007 graduate of Westview High School where he served 4 years as the basketball manager. He was active in Campus Life. Survivors include his parents, Loretta & Todd Tyler of Shipshewana, IN.; Father, Bruce Allen Bradley of Ligonier, IN; Brother, Dustin Bradley of Shipshewana, IN.; 4 Grandparents, John Henry, Jr. & Goldie Whetstone of Middlebury, IN, Ron & Esther Tyler of Parr, TX, Connie & Roger Chrispen of Goshen, IN., Peggy & Eldon Jackson, MO. Visitation will be from 2 -- 8 PM on Monday at the Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street, Middlebury. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at the funeral home. Services will be conducted by Rev. Scott Miller and Rev. Keith Grabill. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury, IN. Memorials may be given to Pathway Assembly of God Youth Group.

Martha Fern Miller

Martha Fern Miller, 66, of 63200 CR 35 Goshen, IN died at 4:25 AM on Friday, September 12, 2008 at her residence, after a 6 year battle with cancer. She was born October 20, 1941 in Kalona, IA., to Ivan L. and Alma (Bontrager) Swartzentruber. On August 2, 1961 in Kalona, IA. she married Alvin R. Miller. She was a Homemaker and had worked at Wal-Mart, Goshen and at the Shipshewana Flea Market. She was a member of Roselawn Conservative Mennonite Church. Survivors include her husband, Alvin R. Miller and 3 Daughters, Linda & Steve Zimmerman of Goshen, IN., Roeleta & John Eicher of Middlebury, IN, Lesa & Michael McCant of Denver, CO.; 3 Sons, Rick & Renee Miller of Riverside, IA., Loren & Cinda Miller of Sturgis, MI., Rollin & Jolene Miller of Skiatook, OK.; 17 Grandchildren; Father & Step Mother, Ivan & Esther (Knepp) Swartzentruber of Montgomery, IN; 3 Sisters, Elva & Myron Silvey of Pensacola, FL., JoAnn Miller of Goshen, IN., Geneva & Del Miller of Millersburg, IN.; 2 Brothers, Lee & Kathy Swartzentruber of Phoenix, AZ, Don & Twyla Swartzentruber of Kalona, IA.; 10 Step-siblings, Levi & Sondra Stoll of Jerome, MI, Daryl & Mary Lou Swartzentruber of Loogootee, IN, Dean & Diane Otto of Cannelburg, IN, Don & Cheryl Gingerich of Sarasota, FL., Allen & Connie Wagler of Loogootee, IN, Ben & Patti Stoll of Sarasota, FL., Dana & Judy Moger of Jessup, GA, Marlene Eash of Ligonier, IN, Randy Swartzentruber of Montgomery, IN, Craig & Marita Swartzentruber of Fairfield, MT. She was preceded in death by mother. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM Saturday, 1 - 5 PM and 6 - 8 PM Sunday and 1 hour prior to the funeral Monday all at the Fairhaven Mennonite Church, Goshen. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, September 15, 2008 at Fairhaven Mennonite Church. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Thad Lechlitner, Rev. Troy Brubaker and her brother the Rev. Don Swartzentruber. Burial will be in Thomas Cemetery, Goshen. Memorials may be given to Care at Home Hospice of Goshen General Hospital or Center for Cancer Care, Goshen.
