Effie Richards Veater, 78

Effie Richards Veater, 78, died Nov. 23, 2004 in the Ormond Beach Hospital, Fla.

Effie was born June 16, 1926, in Shelby County, the daughter of the late Russel M. and Nellie G. Barley.

She was a 1943 graduate of Greensburg High School. She married James E. Richards. They lived in Greensburg for many years, before relocating to Florida, in 1957. They owned and operated the Richards Implement Co. He preceded her in death. She then married Reese Veater of Dayton Beach.

He survives, with sons Steven (Sue) Richards of Laguna Niguel, Calif. and Michael (Linda) Richards of Sanderson, S.C., daughter Carol (Ed) Castonguay of Homestead, Fla.; grandchildren Scott, James and John Richards and Wendy Castonguay; a sister, Jane Bauer of Greensburg; and a nephew, David Bauer, of Greensburg.

Arrangement were hand-led by Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home, New Smyrna Beach, with entombment at Shady Rest Cemetery, Holly Hills, Fla.

Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church, Family Life Center, 201 Sams Ave., New Smyrna Beach, Fla., 32168.

Mary Alice Bates, 87

Mary Alice Bates, 87, Batesville (formerly of Sunman), died Monday in Margaret Mary Community Hospital.

Visitation is Thursday, 5-8 p.m., in the New Testament Baptist Church in Penntown.

Funeral is 10 a.m. Thursday in the church, Bro. Thomas Fehrman officiating.

Burial will be in Venice Cemetery, near Ross, Ohio.

Martha Elizabeth Hartman, 90

Martha Elizabeth Hartman, 90, Morris, died Sunday. in the Waters of Batesville. Visitation is Thursday, 5-8 p.m., in the Meyers Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial is Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony Church, Msgr. Bernard Schmitz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Marjorie Elizabeth Moenter, 88

Marjorie Elizabeth Moenter, 88, Batesville, died Monday in Terre Haute.

Visitation is Wednesday, 5-8 p.m., in the Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary Service at 6:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial is Thursday in the St. Louis Church, Fr. Alan Hirt officiating.

Burial is in the church cemetery.

Kathryn L. Strasburger, 93

Kathryn L. Strasburger, 93, of Greensburg died Saturday in Decatur County Memorial Hospital.

Kathryn was born May 17, 1911, in Hope, the daughter of the late William C. and Sylvia (Cook) Kissling.

She graduate from Hope High School. She worked in Muncie and in Hope before moving to Greensburg, where she worked for Hoosier Public Utility Company.

In 1936, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Greencastle, she married Gerald J. Strasburger.

Survivors include a daughter, Gloria M. (Walter) Wheeler, grandchildren G. Sean (Dawn), Mary Ellen, T. Seamus (Lori) Wheeler, several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to a Mass of Resurrection Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Greensburg. Graveside services will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 302 E. McKee St., Greensburg, In., 46204; the Indianapolis affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation (breast cancer), 1099 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, In., 46204; or

Arrangements were handled by Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home, Greensburg.

William “Bill” O. Stuart, 70

William “Bill” O. Stuart, 70, Napoleon, died at 3:47 p.m. Saturday in Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.

William was born on May 5, 1934, in Westport, the son of the late Drewery W. and Mary F. (Bishop) Stuart in Westport.

He owned Stuart Lime Spreading Co. and Stuart Auto Sales in Westport and Letts. He was a member of the Moose and a Lifetime member of the Eagles.

In 1957, he married Betty Hammon.

She survives, with children sisters Shirley Howard of Lauderhill, Fla., Mary Etta Stuart Smith of Greenville, S.C. and Joan Hicks of Abington.

Visitation is Tuesday, 4-8 p.m. at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home, Greensburg. Services are Wednesday, 10 a.m., in the funeral home.

Burial will be in Milford Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and American Heart Association.

Ertle G. Toler, 87

Ertle G. Toler, 87, died Saturday at 1:31 p.m. in Columbus Regional Hospital

He was born April 30, 1917, in Eadsville, Ky., the son of the late Eaph and Daisy (Miller) Toler

Moved to Henry County, Indiana in 1953. He had been a Westport resident since 1977.

Ertle was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked as a landscaper for Garr Nursery for 7 1/2 years before starting his own landscaping business in 1963. He also was a hunter and fisherman.

He was also predeceased by a son, Jackie Toler; brothers Kermit Toler and J.B. Toler and a sister, Belva Luft.

Ertle is survived by sons Danny Toler and Kenneth Toler of Westport and Phillip Toler of Greensburg; daughters Linda Sue Lakes and Rose Ann Meirs of Cambridge City; sisters Lexie Frost of Monticello, Ky., and Zilpha Frost of Westport; a brother, Colum Toler of Monticello, Ky; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is today, 4- 9 p.m in Bass & Gasper Funeral Home, Westport. The funeral is Tuesday, 1:30 p.m., in the funeral home, Pastor Bill Pearl officiating. Burial will be in Westport Cemetery with military graveside services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Administration Hospitals through the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home.

Sandra J. Wall, 67

Sandra J. Wall, 67, Greensburg, died at 11:30 p.m. Friday in Decatur County Memorial Hospital.

Sandra was born on Nov. 1, 1937, the daughter of the late Raymond D. Sr., and Maxine (Knott) Wall, in Gilpin, Ky.

She worked for 27 years at Oddfellows Nursing Home in Greensburg where she was a ward clerk. She was an Army veteran.

She was also predeceased by a brother, Gary D. Wall.

Sandra is survived by a daughter, Tammy Sweet, a grandson, Michael Sweet, Jr., and a granddaughter, Brian-na Sweet, all of Greensburg; a brother, Raymond Wall, Jr., of Greensburg; sisters Judith Hoggatt of St. Paul, Patty Snyder of Indianapolis and Cheryl Hill of Fairland; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation is Tuesday, noon until 1 p.m. services at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home, Greensburg, Rev. Perry Cook officiating. Burial will be in Hebron Cemetery, Adams.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Diabetes Association.
