Lionel Turner

Lionel E. Turner, 88, of Rising Sun, passed away Thursday, August 20th, 2015 at The Waters of Rising Sun.

He was born on November 3rd, 1926 to the late Lawrence and Susie (Scudder) Turner in Switzerland County.

His mother, Susie (Scudder) Turner passed away shortly after Lionel was born, and he was raised by his beloved grandparents: Harry and Annabelle Scudder. Annabelle was always remembered by Lionel as "Mom."

Lionel attended grade school and high school in Switzerland County. At age 14, he was baptized and became a member of the New Liberty Baptist Church.

In February of 1945, Lionel was inducted into the Army, spending nine months in the Pacific. In September of 1946, he was honorably discharged with the rank of T-5. Lionel returned home and helped farm where he grew up. Lionel was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion in Rising Sun.

On December 10th, 1949 he was married to Alberta Stoops of Switzerland County, and they celebrated 63 years together. To this union, four children were born: Richard Turner and wife, Bev, of Rising Sun; Donna Perry and husband, Leon, of Versailles; Brenda Greene and husband, Poncho, of Cincinnati, and Mark Turner and wife, Gayle, of East Enterprise.

Eight grandchildren were welcomed into his life with much love shown to each: Tracy (Kevin) Mess, Micah (Justin) Shuey, Chrissy Deck, Brent (Sarah) Perry, Ashley Turner, Britton Hempfling, Matthew Hempfling, and Nicholas Hempfling. Lionel Turner had four great-grandchildren with another soon to be born in September.

Lionel was preceded in death by his brothers: Harry (Gay) Turner; Warren (Marian) Turner; Donald Turner; and Stanley Turner; by one sister: Wilma Turner; and a step-brother Paul Scudder.

Lionel leaves behind brothers Larry (Jenny) Turner and Frank (Peg) Turner; sisters: Vandora Stuard; Rita (Jack) Waltz; Judy Maddox; brother-in-law Arthur (Ruth) Stoops; and sister-in-law Margaret Turner.

Lionel was a farmer and worked for Roy Turner for over 25 years, having to retire in 1992 due to a massive heart attack. Lionel and Alberta spent retirement at the Hoosier Boy apartments and enjoyed walking and visiting with family and friends. Lionel was a wonderful father and friend and will be missed by all.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday, August 24th at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun. Visitation was held on Sunday; and burial with military honors was at Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Rising Sun American Legion Post #59.

Louis Bullock

Louis Ray Bullock, age 64, of Vevay, died at 2:40 p.m., on Saturday, August 22nd, 2015, at the Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

Louis entered this life on February 9th, 1951, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the loving son of the late William Robert and Vonnie (Smith) Bullock. He was raised in Indianapolis, and was a 1969 graduate of Warren Central High School. He received his Electrician Degree from Ivy Tech Community College in Madison, where he was also an instructor.

Louis was inducted into the United States Air Force in January of 1972, and was later honorably discharged.

Louis was united in marriage on June 17th, 1972, to Gayla Chase, at the Switzerland Baptist Church in Vevay; and to this union arrived two daughters: Jaime and Jennifer, to bless their home. Louis and Gayla shared 43 loving years of marriage together until his death.

Louis was a former employee for the U.S. Shoe Factory and Randall Textron, Inc., in Vevay; and for Dayton Walther in Warsaw, Kentucky. Louis was an electrician for the Coca-Cola Company in Cincinnati, Ohio, retiring in 2013 after 14 years of service.

He was the Chief Engineer #315 for the Jeff-Craig Volunteer Fire Department in Vevay. Louis was currently the President of the Vevay-Switzerland County Lions Club. He was a member of the Vevay American Legion Post #185. Louis attended the Switzerland Baptist Church in Vevay.

Louis will be remembered for his love of fishing and camping.

Louis will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 43 years: Gayla (Chase) Bullock of Vevay; his daughters: Jaime Moore and her husband: Scotty of Vevay; and Jennifer Canfield and her husband: John of Florence, Indiana; his grandchildren: Ethan, Elliott, John, Bradley and Makayla; and his sisters: Beverly Harris and her husband: Kenny of Huntington, Indiana; and Wanda Hedge and her husband: Doug of Greenfield, Indiana.

He will also be missed by his brothers: Joe Bullock of North Fort Meyers, Florida and Rob Bullock of Vevay; his father-in-law: James H. Chase of Vevay; his brother-in-law: Lawrence Chase and his wife: Marsha of Vevay; his sister-in-law: Holly Robinson and her husband: Richard of Madison; and his several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: William Robert and Vonnie (Smith) Bullock; his mother-in-law: Mary Lou Chase, who died on July 6th, 2013; his brother: Norman Bullock; his sister: Betty Delph; and his brother-in-law: Steven Wayne Chase, who died on December 20th, 1969.

Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, August 26th, by Reverend Wayne Daugherty at the Haskell and Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay. Interment followed in the Vevay Cemetery.

Friends called on Tuesday at the funeral home; and the Jeff-Craig Volunteer Fire Department and the Vevay-Switzerland County Lions Club conducted special services.

Full military rites were conducted at the cemetery by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185, the Vevay VFW Post #5396 and the United States Air Force Ceremonial Unit.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Switzerland County Lions Club or to the Jeff-Craig Volunteer Fire Department. Cards are available at the funeral home.

Sharon Ann Ballard

Sharon Ann (Blodgett) Ballard, age 69, of Vevay, passed away at 4:36 p.m. on Saturday, August 22nd, 2015, at the Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

Sharon entered this life on July 14th, 1946, in Burlington, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Wilson and Shirley (Quimby) Blodgett. She was raised in Burlington, Wisconsin, where she was a 1964 graduate of the Burlington High School.

Sharon was united in marriage on July 14th, 1984, in Kansasville, Wisconsin, to the late, Paul J. Ballard. Sharon and Paul shared 30 years of marriage together until Paul passed away on September 2nd, 2014.

She was a former machine operator for various places in Wisconsin for several years. Sharon and Paul resided in the Racine, Wisconsin community until moving to the Florence, Indiana community in 1999. After Paul passed away, Sharon moved to Vevay in October of 2014. Sharon was an employee for the Swiss Villa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Vevay. She was a member of the Florence Relay for Life, and attended the Florence Church of Christ. Sharon enjoyed crocheting, but most of all working puzzle books.

Sharon will be missed by her step-sons: Larry Ballard and his wife: Sherry of Huntington, West Virginia; Melvin Ballard and his wife: Jennifer of Moores Hill, Indiana; and John Ballard of Racine, Wisconsin; by her grandchildren: Crystal Pelfrey, Kara Hansell, Anna Ballard, Miranda Ballard and Kevin Ballard; and her great-grandchildren: Cory Hansell, Karleigh Hansell, Ryan Ballard and Cannan Hansell.

She will also be missed by her brother: Robert Blodgett and his wife: Sandy of Burlington, Wisconsin; her sisters: Karen Larson of Burlington, Wisconsin; and Delores Cole and her husband: Charles of Racine, Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Wilson and Shirley (Quimby) Blodgett; her husband of 30 years: Paul J. Ballard, who died September 2nd, 2014; her son: Jeffrey Duvall, who died on July 6th, 2012; her daughter: Marjorie Duvall, who died on July 10th, 1969; her great-grandson: Cole Hansell, who died on August 23rd, 2010; and her brother: Gerald Blodgett.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, August 31st, 2015, at 11 a.m., by Brother Roy Duckworth, at the Haskell and Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay. Interment will follow in the Florence Cemetery.

Friends may call 10-11 a.m., on Monday, August 31st, at the Haskell and Morrison Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society. Cards are available at the funeral home.

'Red' Wilhoite

Billy Ray "Red" Wilhoite, age 57, of Vevay, died at 7:11 a.m., on Monday, August 17, 2015, at his residence in Vevay.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home 208 Ferry Street, Vevay.

Shawn Sellers

Shawn David Sellers, age 43, of Hanover, Indiana, died on Tuesday, August 11th, 2015, at 6:30 p.m. at his home.

Shawn entered this life on May 27th, 1972 in Orlando, Florida. He was the loving son of James Sellers and Linda Romans Sellers. He was raised in the Madison community, and was a 1989 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School. He earned a degree in Business Management from Indiana University and Computer Programming from Virginia Tech.

He married Rebecca Charmaine Coghill on March 22nd, 2003 in Carrollton, Kentucky. This happy union was blessed with a son and two daughters. He worked at Ameriform in Carrollton, Kentucky; at Saks Fifth Avenue as personnel manager in Woodbridge, Virginia; at Chrysler in Bethesda, Maryland programming computers; and started his own business: 'Better Than Good Renovations' in Madison.

He enjoyed playing golf, basketball, and fishing. He loved singing, playing his guitar and spending time with his family.

Shawn will be missed by his loving wife of 12 years, Rebecca Charmaine Sellers of Hanover; his loving children: Kyrsten, Zachery, and Brianna Sellers; his grandfather, James A. Sellers of Long Beach, California; and his daughter, Chelsea.

He will also be missed by his brothers: Tim Craig of Jacksonville, Florida; Michael Sellers of Madison; and Brad Osborn and his wife Brittany of Alabama; by his sister: Brandy Curry and her husband, Micah, of Vevay; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, David and Rhonda Coghill of Bedford, Kentucky; his brothers-in-law: Micah Curry and Chance Coghill; his uncle, Gene Sellers of Miami, Florida; and his aunt, Pauline Ferris of Greensburg, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Laura Sellers; and his father, James Sellers.

Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, August 16th, by Reverend Gene Temple at the Milton United Methodist Church, Milton, Kentucky. Interment followed in the Fairmount Cemetery in Madison.

Friends and family held a visitation on Saturday, August 15th at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison; and on Sunday prior to the service at the Milton United Methodist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shawn Sellers Memorial Fund. Cards are available at the funeral home. Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre handled the arrangements for the family.

Loretta Hinman

Loretta Pearl Hinman, 77, or Rising Sun, passed away at 1:55 p.m. on Friday, August 14th, at The Waters of Rising Sun.

Loretta was born in Patriot on September 26th, 1937, the daughter of the late Grace Marie (Stopher) and Garnet Gregory.

On September 29th, 1966, she married Lewis E. Hinman, who passed away on August 13th, 2009.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 20th, from 10-11 a.m. at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun. Graveside services will follow at the Rising Sun New Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to The Water of Rising Sun Activity Fund.
