Ralph C. Brown
Aug. 29, 1924 - Jan. 11, 2010

SOUTH BEND - Ralph C. Brown, 85, passed away on January 11, 2010 at Sanctuary of Holy Cross, after a long illness. He was born August 29, 1924, in Huntington, IN to the late Cleo Chester and Nellie Mae (Coddington) Brown. On November 8, 1947 he married Mary Margaret Coty. He is survived by his wife, Mary; five children, Terrence (Mary Margaret) of Bremerton, WA, Gregory of South Bend, Christopher (Debbie) of Hollister, CA, Eric (Tami) of South Bend, and Lisa Marie Solomon (Randy) of San Jose, CA; eight grandchildren, Justine, Jacob, Nicholas, Samuel, Patrick, Danielle, Zachary, and Joshua; and five great - grandchildren, Lenny, Madeline, Jessica, Jacob, and Nathan. He was preceded in death by his sister, Carol (Sendo), his brother Robert, and his grandson, Matthew Brown.

Ralph graduated in the first graduating class at John Adams High School in 1942. From there he attended Indiana University (Sigma Pi) until May 1943, at which time he enlisted in the Navy. He proudly served on the U.S.S. Yorktown (The Fighting Lady) and was honorably discharged in February 1946. He received a number of medals and commendations while serving his country.

After his marriage to Mary, he worked for Uniroyal, The Studebaker Corp., and The South Bend Tribune, before spending the majority of his career in the Real Estate business. He continued working, part - time, up until August 2008, when he broke his hip, which was the beginning of his extended illness. He loved his family and enjoyed telling them and others, stories of his many life experiences. He also enjoyed spending time on his computer. He was a big Notre Dame and Cubs fan.

He was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church. He will be missed and remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great - grandfather, and a good friend to many.

Ralph's family would like to thank all the wonderful people at St. Joseph's Med. Center, Our Lady of Peace Hospital, and the Sanctuary at Holy Cross, who provided such loving care for him during his illness, as well as all the support and care he received from his family and friends.

A memorial service for Ralph will be scheduled this summer. Memorial contributions may be made to Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 N. Ironwood Drive, South Bend, IN 46635.

Jack A. Nemeth
April 17, 1944 - Jan. 8, 2010

SOUTH BEND - Mr. Jack Alvin Nemeth, 65, of South Bend, passed away in his residence on Friday of an illness. He was born on April 17, 1944, to the late Wendell Robert and Elizabeth Marie (Newlun) Nemeth. Jack was a graphic designer, having worked at the South Bend Tribune until he had to retired in 2003 for health reasons after 22 years of service. Mr. Nemeth served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He loved the Chicago Cubs baseball team. He is survived by his daughter, Shari Nemeth of Scottsdale, AZ; and five siblings, Max (Barb) Nemeth of Mauldin, SC, Dorothy (Lee) Emerick of Elkhart, Carol (Bob) Rand of Mishawaka, Wendell (Ann) Nemeth of Niles and Beth (Chris) Mitchell of Mishawaka. Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the McGann Hay Funeral Homes, Forest G. Hay Chapel, 435 S. Ironwood Drive at Jefferson, with Rev. Reed Anderstrom, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, where military honors services will take place. Friends may call from 5 - 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Contributions may be made in Jack's memory to the charity of the donor's choice.

Christopher Bankowski
Sep. 28, 1982 - Jan. 5, 2010

SOUTH BEND - Christopher James Bankowski, 27, passed away Tuesday at 4:22 p.m. at Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis, with his family by his side. He was born September 28, 1982, in South Bend, the son of James E. and Julianne E. (Varga) Bankowski. They both survive along with his sister, Karen E. (Don) Thornburg; a niece, Emily Thornburg; paternal grandmother, Dolores Bankowski; and two close friends, Annie Shepard and Chris Edwards, all of South Bend. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Harry Bankowski; and maternal grandparents, Edward and Tillie Varga. Chris also leaves behind his cherished pets, Bosco and Molly. Chris attended the South Bend public schools and graduated from John Adams High School, Holy Cross College and IUSB. He was currently doing graduate work at Ball State University. He was a member of St. Anthony's Parish, and was a United Way Poster Child for St. Joseph County when he was a child. He was a huge sports fan. The Cubs and Notre Dame were among his favorite teams. He also loved all music and played the violin. He had worked as a substitute teacher in the South Bend Community School Corporation and as a correspondent for the South Bend Tribune. Friends may call from 4 - 8 PM on Friday in Saint Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. The Mass will be held in the church on Saturday at 11:00 AM, where friends may call one hour prior. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and caregivers who helped take such good care of Chris over the years. His wonderful spirit, love of life and strong will will be missed by many. The family requests to honor Chris's memory in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Spina Bifida Association, 4590 MacArthur Blvd., Washington, DC, 20007; or to LOGAN, PO Box 1049, South Bend, IN 46624. Arrangements are being made by McGann Hay Funerals |Cremations | Gatherings, University Chapel.

Barbara Elaine Rubin
Sept. 11, 1942 – Jan. 6, 2010

South Bend - Barbara E. Rubin, 67, passed away January 6, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Anne Rubin. She is survived by her sister, Vicki Zusman of Champagne, IL; nieces, Rochelle Batchelor and Amie Belcher; nephew, Steve Zusman; and close friend, Joyce Gearhart of Granger. Barbara retired from the South Bend Police Department. Funeral Services will be Friday at noon in the McGann Hay, Forest G. Hay Chapel. Burial will follow at the Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery.

Stanley F. Norman, Jr.
Feb. 13, 1933 - Jan. 4, 2010

GRANGER - Stanley Felton Norman, Jr., 76, passed away peacefully at Regency Place late Monday. Stanley was born in Norfolk, Virginia on February 13, 1933 to Stanley Felton Norman, Sr. and Mary Deborah (Dudley) Norman. At an early age, he attained the rank of Eagle Scout with two palms. He was an accomplished musician, most notably a trumpeter in the Norfolk Fire Department Band as well as the Maury High School Band, and the Bruce Roberts’ Orchestra. If you needed a good jazz trumpet player, he was it. He graduated with honors from Maury High School, studied at William & Mary Extension in Norfolk, Virginia, for a year, and subsequently moved to Richmond, Virginia where he became a pre - med student at the University of Richmond. He decided not to go into medicine after graduating with a degree in Chemistry, but obtained a Masters degree in Marketing at the University of Richmond. He then joined International Minerals and Chemical Corporation (IMC) in Skokie, Illinois as a Product Sales Manager. He and his family moved to Lincolnshire, Illinois, where he continued playing the trumpet, especially in the Chamber Pot Six or Seven Dixieland Band. Several years later, he purchased a mineral and vitamin (for livestock and domestic animals) mixing and packaging company on the south side of Chicago. In the beginning, he acted as salesman, nutritionist, chemist, and manager of the plant for several years. As the business grew, he moved the company to Bremen, Indiana, where he continued as President of the company, BFC Industries, until 1998, when he sold the business and retired. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah N. Sandroni in August. Surviving are a son, David F. (Staci - Marie) Norman, his daughter’s husband Michael Sandroni; five grandchildren, Alex (Mary Walsh) Sandroni, LTGR, Adam (Caitlin Fitzgerald) Sandroni, Christian Sandroni, MIDN, Riley Norman, and Calla - Marie Norman. Services are on Saturday, January 9, at 10:45am, in the First Presbyterian Church of South Bend, 333 W. Colfax Ave, with visitation prior from 10 - 10:45am, in the church. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association in lieu of flowers.

Daniel A. Wainscott
June 22, 1950 – Jan. 1, 2010

SOUTH BEND, IN – Daniel A. Wainscott, 59, died at Memorial Hospital. He was born to Lonnie Lee and Virginia (Ciesiolka) Wainscott. His father survives along with a daughter Dana Wainscott, a sister Debbie Wainscott and an aunt Ramona (Charles) Willis. Dan retired from RACO, was a US Army Veteran of Viet Nam War, was a member of Communication Workers of America, AFL - CIO, CLC # 84913, VFW and American Legion. No services are planned with cremation. Donations to any veteran’s organization. Morning Star Funerals & Cremations is in charge.

Pauline Billitteri
October 15, 1921 – January 2, 2010

Mrs. Pauline Billitteri, 88, of South Bend, died Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at St. Anne Home in Fort Wayne. Mrs. Billitteri was born in Monreale, Sicily, on Oct. 15, 1921, to Anthony and Benadetta Albano. She came to the United States through Ellis Island as an infant and was a lifelong resident of South Bend until moving to Fort Wayne in April. On Oct. 5, 1946, she married Matthew Billitteri, who died in 2007. Mrs. Billitteri is survived by three children: Theresa Billitteri of Seattle, WA; Thomas (Mary Lynn) Billitteri of Fairfield, PA; and Mary Anne (Dustin) Roach of Fort Wayne; three grandchildren: Emily and Lara Roach of Fort Wayne and David Martin of McLean, VA; a brother, Michael Albano, of South Bend; and a sister, Katherine Garden, of Chatsworth, CA. Another sister, Ursula “Sue” Albano Pensa, died in 1992. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, on the Campus of the University of Notre Dame. Mrs. Billitteri was a member of Sacred Heart Parish. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday in the McGann Hay University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road at Ironwood, South Bend. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made in Mrs. Billitteri’s memory to any charity.

Francis X. Bradley ("Tim") Jr.
Oct. 31, 1916 - Dec. 30, 2009

NOTRE DAME, IN - Francis X. ("Tim") Bradley, Jr., 93, passed away on December 30, 2009 at Scubert Villa, Notre Dame, IN. Tim was born in Salamanca, NY on October 31, 1916. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1939 with a degree in aeronautical engineering. Tim married Helen E. ("Betty") Baxter in 1940 while serving as an advanced flying instructor in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He transferred to the Central African Division of the Air Transport Command in 1944 where he served as division operations officer. Tim then returned to Notre Dame, where he earned a master's degree in math and a law degree in 1949. After receiving an advanced degree from Yale Law School, Tim taught for two years at the Creighton University Law School. He then worked as military requirements engineer at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Company. In 1957, Tim again returned to Notre Dame and served as Director of its Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. In 1969, he became director of projects and sponsored programs for the American Society for Engineering Education in Washington D.C. Tim is survived by his wife of 69 years Betty, his brother John, his children Michael(Hilary), Joseph (Carolyn), Francis X. (Lea), Christopher and Catherine and his grandchildren, Katherine, Conor, Matthew, Emma, Justin and Alexa. He was preceded in death by his brother William, daughter Mary Patricia and son Richard. The family expresses its' deep appreciation to the staff and residents of Schubert Villa for the outstanding care and support extended by them to Tim. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Chapel, Holy Cross College, Notre Dame, IN. on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 11:00 am. Visitation precedes the mass from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at St. Joseph Chapel. The family suggests that donations be made in Tim's memory to the Little Flower Food Pantry, Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 N. Ironwood, South Bend, IN., 46635.
