Paul A. Conners
May 19, 1968 - Dec. 29, 2009

INDIANAPOLIS - Paul Andrew Conners, 41, passed away December 29, 2009 in Indianapolis. He was born May 19, 1968 to Robert and Carole Conners. They both survive. Also surviving are siblings, Ryan (Cati) Conners of Bristol and Julie (Michael) Carlo of Mishawaka; and grandma, Patricia S. Henning of Rochester. A celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 2, at Bristol United Methodist Church, Bristol, IN, with visitation one hour prior.

Paul F. Bosco
May 24, 1914 - Dec. 25, 2009

SOUTH BEND - Paul F. Bosco passed away peacefully of natural causes on the evening of December 25th at age 95. Born in Vasto, Italy, the youngest of nine siblings, Paul and his family immigrated to the United States in 1920 and settled in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from Wayne State University in 1934 and received a Ph.D. in Romance Philology from Harvard University in 1942. Paul then served in military intelligence during WW II, stationed in Puerto Rico. In 1947 he began his career as a professor at the University of Notre Dame, teaching Spanish, French and Italian, specializing in Applied Linguistics. He revived the teaching of Italian at Notre Dame. He loved teaching, continuing past his official retirement in 1979 by teaching part - time until 1997, completing a 50 - year career. He spent summers between 1949 and 1965 at the Army Foreign Liaison Office at the Pentagon or teaching Military Intelligence as a member of the Army Reserve, from which he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1974. He spent 1955 - 57 on a Fulbright grant in Italy, where he met his wife. In 1962 - 64 he was the director of a cultural exchange center in Argentina for the State Dept, and in the summers of 1965 - 67 participated in NDEA Institutes in Georgia (for Spanish) and in France. From 1968 to 1970 he lived in Angers, France, serving as director of Notre Dame and St. Mary's sophomore year abroad program. He traveled widely, from fieldwork in Argentina and Chile in 1941 to leisure travel in Europe and Asia after his retirement. Paul was extremely patient and loving with his handicapped daughter Laura, and was moved to help Vietnamese refugees by sponsoring a family that came to South Bend. Paul is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vittoria; children, Joseph (Sara), Beatrice (Sarah Gubbins), Peter A. (Kathy) and Laura (Patti Lindorf); five grandchildren, Anna, Paul, Peter, Luca and Sofi; and many beloved nieces and nephews, friends and students. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 - 7 p.m. today in the McGann Hay Funeral Homes, University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road, near Ironwood, where the Holy Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to have friends honor Paul's memory by directing memorial donations to South Bend Catholic Worker, PO Box 4241, South Bend, IN 46634; or to Dismas House, P.O. Box 4571, South Bend, IN 46634.

Peter L. Bogumill
Sept. 25, 1921 - April 18, 2010

MISHAWAKA - Peter L. Bogumill, 88, passed away on Sunday, April 18th, at Dujarie House in Holy Cross Village at Notre Dame, Indiana. Peter was born in Thorpe, Wisconsin, and grew up in the lumbering town of Rib Lake, Wisconsin. He enjoyed sports and the outdoors of northern Wisconsin, often playing hooky from school in order to work as a lumberjack to bring in extra money for his family during The Depression. When Pearl Harbor was bombed he signed up for duty in the military and served in the Coast Guard/Navy on the LCI (Landing Craft Infantry). He saw action during the invasion of Africa, Sicily, Italy and Normandy. He was wounded in action during the D - Day invasion and was awarded the Purple Heart. After the war Peter remained on duty with the Coast Guard and married Bridget C. Coyne on October 28, 1944, in Chicago, IL. Bridget preceded him in death on March 16, 2007. After his retirement in 1982 they moved to Mishawaka to be near family. He enjoyed his family, the St. Joseph river, and Notre Dame football. Surviving Peter are two daughters, Patricia (Don) Cressy of Mishawaka and Catherine Rasmussen of Mishawaka; and three sons, Michael (Mary) Bogumill of Mishawaka, Peter (Mary Ann) Bogumill of Mesa, AZ, and Paul (Mary Kay) Bogumill of Helena, MT. Peter also had 14 grandchildren and 13 great - grandchildren. In addition, Peter is survived by one sister, Florence Vandeveer, and one brother, John (Avis) Bogumill of Mesa, AZ. A second sister, Betty Wolfe, preceded him in death in March 2010. The family gratefully wishes to acknowledge the kindness and care of the Dujarie House staff. We also would like to thank Curtis Stump, Kay Hill and Cathy Trewhella for their support with our father. Family and friends are welcome to attend a viewing on Wednesday, April 21, from 2:00 - 3:00 P.M. in the Dujarie House Chapel followed immediately by Mass of Christian Burial. A private family interment will follow at a later date. In remembrance of Peter, contributions may be made to the Holy Cross Foundation, P.O. Box 706, Notre Dame, IN 46556.

Edward A. Thorpe
June 3, 1930 - April 17, 2010

SOUTH BEND - Edward was co - owner of Thorpe's Marine, a three - generation family business from 1927 to 1987. He was an active member of the community, as a member of the South Bend Power Squadron, and officer and commodore of the South Bend Cruising Club, and one of the founding members of the South Bend Snowmobiling Club as well as a member of the Red Cross Civil Defense. In the blizzard of 1978, Edward, and the other Snowmobiling club members, under the direction of Lou Gillespie of the Red Cross and Don German of the Civil Defense, rescued community members from the blizzard, delivered medications, and transported emergency illnesses to the local hospitals. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War as a lineman, laying phone lines and communications to the front line. He was a 1948 graduate of John Adams High School. He is survived by his wife, Constance (Connie Berquist), loving wife of 59 years; daughter, Linda Thorpe Gordon (Tom Gordon) of South Bend; sons, Tom Thorpe (Mary Kovach) of Cassopolis, MI, and Bruce Thorpe of Riveria Beach, FL; grandchildren, LeighAnn Jeffers, Scott Jeffers of South Bend, Edward Gordon, Grant Gordon and Christine Gordon of South Bend, and Chad Thorpe, Travis Thorpe and Brandon Thorpe of Cassopolis, MI; and his brother, Rolland Thorpe (Helen) of Granger, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, George V. Thorpe, Mildred Thorpe; siste,r Georgia Jean Bear (Thorpe); and brother, Jack Thorpe. Friends are invited to join the family in a celebration of his life at his home on Friday, April 23, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at 1648 Vernerlee Lane, South Bend, 46635. Jack D. Kuespert
Feb. 26, 1931 - April 16, 2010

GRANGER - Jack D. Kuespert, 79, loving husband, father, brother and uncle, passed away unexpectedly April 16, 2010, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. Born February 26, 1931, he was the son of George and Pheba (Freel) Kuespert, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Chester (Josephine) and Benjamin (Margaret) Kuespert; and four sisters, Viola Temple, Barbara Willis, Lola Kuespert and Faye (Doyle) Rhymer. Jack is survived by his wife of 57 years, Genevieve "Jenny" Madison. He is also survived by son, Leonard Kuespert of Granger; special nephew and niece, Steve (Stacy) Madison and Patty Madison; and many other nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the following family members: Tim and Carol Magiera, Randy (Barb) Redman, Bill (Donna) Redman and Marv (Cindy) Moore for their continued support. Jack retired from the O'Brien Corporation after 43 years. He also owned his own business, Jack's Small Engine Repair, for 15 years. He was a proud Army veteran and belonged to the American Legion, Post 284. He was also a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Jack was a humble and generous man. He was a skilled mechanic and craftsman. Jack will be missed by many people, especially his family and close group of friends who would meet for breakfast almost daily at Eleni's Restaurant. Private services are being held on a later date.

Daniel P. Conboy
Oct. 13, 1946 – April 14, 2010

CASSOPOLIS, MI – Mr. Danial Patrick Conboy, 63, of Cassopolis formerly of South Bend passed away suddenly of an apparent heart attack in the Emergency Room of Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
Mr. Conboy was born in South Bend on October 13, 1946 to the late James Paul and Jeanette (Bauerlein) Conboy, Sr. He was a 1969 graduate of Indiana University. He married Janeen Mary Suth on November 29, 1969 at Holy Cross Church, South Bend. Dan was the owner of the Auten Road Marathon Service Station and another service station in Elkhart, until his retirement in 1995.
Janeen survives of Cassopolis along with: two sons: Sean P. (Paige) Conboy of Hope, IN and their son Gavin, age 3, Kevin D. (Nichole) Conboy of Albuquerque, NM and their children Tiffany, age 2 and "Baby B" a girl to be born soon; his sister Sarah Gavitt of Houston, TX, sisters - in - law Maureen Suth and Phyllis Lentych and brother - in - law Michael Suth, all of South Bend, IN. His brother, James P. Conboy, preceded him in death in 1999 and his wife, Maureen Conboy of Cassopolis, MI survives. He was surrounded by many nieces and nephews at family gatherings who he loved like his own children.
His children and grandkids were the love of his life. Dan was a avid card player that enjoyed the giggles and the fellowship of the games. He enjoyed using his computer and taking road trips in the car with Janeen and he loved the lake and being on and around the water.
A Mass of Christian Burial Memorial Service will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Fir Rd & SR 23, Granger, with Msgr. William Schooler, Pastor, officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to mass in the church. McGann Hay, Forest G. Hay Chapel is handling the cremation.

CARL J. RUDOLPH, JR.
MAY 9, 1941 – APRIL 14, 2010

SOUTH BEND - Carl J. Rudolph, 69, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away on April 14, 2010. Mr. Rudolph, our brother, lived in Mishawaka, IN with his two loves and constant companions, Carol Fry and Molly, “his little blessing.”

Carl’s passions were his family, his eternal green thumb, four legged friends, hot rods and having a good brew as he cheered for Notre Dame. He was a kind and gentle man who loved the simple things in life. We love you, Carl!

Mr. Rudolph is survived by four siblings, Mrs. Anna May Stern of Bisbee, AZ, Mr. William Rudolph of Ajijic, Mexico, Mrs. Hazel Myer of Chapel Hill, NC, and Mr. Ronald Rudolph of Savannah, GA; and his nieces and nephew, Kathleen Gormal of Indianapolis, IN, Ryan Rudolph of Savannah, GA and Ashley Diamond of New York, NY.

A Mass will be held in the Log Chapel at Notre Dame on Saturday, May 8th, at 4:00PM. In memory of our brother, donations may be made to the ASPCA, 520 8th Ave, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10018.

Quentin E. Marshall
February 9, 1923 – April 13, 2010

WALKERTON - Quentin E. Marshall, 87, passed away April 13, 2010 at the Miller’s Merry Manor in Walkerton. Quentin was born February 9, 1923 in Sugar Creek Twp, IN to the late George N. and Mary E. (Allee) Marshall. He lived in North Liberty most of his life.

Quentin proudly served in the Navy during World War II. On September 12, 1945, he married Genevieve Schweer in Norwich, CT. She preceded him in death. They had three children who survive, Rita (Joe) Hartigan of Fabius, NY, Connie Marshall of Bidwell, OH, and Terry (Dee) Marshall of Tuscola, TX. Also surviving are two sisters, Jacquelyn Steagall of Wappingers Falls, NY, and Beverly Stanley of Norfolk, VA.

Quentin was self employed, giving music lessons and tuning pianos.

Cremation will take place. No services are being held.
