DUNEDIN, Fla. - Marguerite Alice Freidenbeger, 86, died Feb. 19, 2005.

Survivors include: her husband of 65 years, Herbert "Herb"; a son, Ron, Rogers, Ark.; three daughters, DeeAnn J. Sheldon, Holton, Suzanne R. Cornforth, Saskatoon, Canada, and Melinda L. Cook, Overland Park; a sister, Pat Hearn, Orlando, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Kent.

Funeral was held at Dunedin, Fla. Memorials may be sent to Grace Lutheran Church, 1812 North Highland Ave., Clearwater, FL 33755.

Patricia L. McCormick
HILLSDALE, Ill. - Patricia L. (Pike) McCormick, 76, died Feb. 21, 2005, at Hammond Henry Hospital, Geneseo, Ill.

She was born June 8, 1928, at Moline, Ill., the daughter of George and Frances Whiteside McCormick. Formerly of Arlington, she owned and operated Motel 61 in Arlington for 14 years.

Survivors include: five children including a daughter, Sabra (Hanna) Siefert, Nickerson; a brother; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four nephews; and a niece.

There will be private family services at a later date.

Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd., Moline is in charge of arrangements.

Matthew P. Albright
PORT HURON, Mich. - Matthew P. Albright, 43, died Feb. 21, 2005, at his home, Port Huron, Mich.

He was the son of David and Anne Albright, McPherson.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Stockham Family Funeral Home, McPherson, with the Revs. Chris Whitacre and Jim Albright presiding. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be in McPherson Cemetery, McPherson.

Memorials may be sent to the Church World Service for Tsunami Relief in care of the funeral home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.

Lila B. Clark
ABILENE - Lila Beth Clark, 60, died Feb. 21, 2005, at Memorial Hospital, Abilene.

She was the sister of Lawrence Jury, Peabody, and Dorothy Moore, Hutchinson.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Abilene, with the Rev. Jack Gilstrap presiding.

Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene, is in charge of arrangements.

Alletta J. VanAntwerp
SCOTT CITY - Alletta J. VanAntwerp died Feb. 18, 2005, at Pasadena, Calif.

She was born Feb. 23, 1898, at Lamont, Iowa, the daughter of John H. and Emma Jackson. In 1900 she moved with her family to Scott City, where she lived until moving to Pasadena, in 1993. She graduated from high school in Scott City in 1917 and attended what then was Kansas State Agricultural College, Manhattan.

She belonged to First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women Chapter AW of PEO and was a charter member of the Social and Study Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary, all at Scott City.

On Oct. 21, 1924, she married Earl VanAntwerp. He died in 1979.

Survivors include: a daughter; three granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; and a nephew.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Scott City, with the Rev. Mike McGuire presiding. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the church, Scott County Historical Society, or to Camp Lake Side, all in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City.

Betty J. Klein
DODGE CITY - Betty Jean Ford Klein, 73, died Feb. 22, 2005, at Kansas Soldiers Home, Halsey Hall, Fort Dodge.

She was born Aug. 29, 1931, at Winchester, Ky., the daughter of John and Beulah Ford. She was a Dodge City resident since 1995, formerly of Winchester, Fowler, Phoenix, and Lompoc, Calif.

She belonged to Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City. She joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and retired as secretary to the controller at Vandenburg Air Force Base, Calif., in April 1995.

On Dec. 29, 1951, she married Urban Klein at San Bernardino, Calif. He died July 26, 1976.

Survivors include: two sons, Mike, Dodge City, and Jeff, Santa Barbara, Calif.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Rosary will be at 10 a.m. and funeral at 10:30 a.m. Saturday both at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, with Father Wesley W. Schawe presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the funeral chapel. The casket will remain closed. Burial will be in Fowler Cemetery, with military graveside rites.

Memorials may be sent to Hospice of the Prairie, in care of the funeral chapel, 1901 North 14th Dodge City, KS 67801.

Sheila M. Kaufman
DODGE CITY - Sheila M. Kaufman, 41, died Feb. 22, 2005, at her home, Dodge City.

She was born Sept. 12, 1963, at Cumberland, Md., the daughter of Virginia Leasure. She was a former resident of Anchorage, Alaska, moving to Dodge City in 2004.

She belonged to Victory Life Fellowship Church, Dodge City, and USANRS. She served in the Active Army Reserve.

On May 10, 1986, she married Tim Kaufman at Dodge City. He survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Spencer, Dodge City, and Dan, Anchorage; two brothers, Steve and Greg Kemp, both of Cumberland; two sisters Debbie Helmstetter and Viola Woolard, both of Cumberland, Md.; and a grandson.

Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Victory Life Fellowship Church, 700 South 14th, Dodge City, with Pastors Carl and Joyce Nance presiding. Friends may sign register from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel. There will be no public visitation. Cremation has taken place.

Memorials may be sent to the Center for Independent Living,in care of the funeral chapel, 1901 North 14th , Dodge City, KS 67801.

Gene G. Youvan
TURON - Gene G. Youvan, 76, died Feb. 23, 2005, at his residence in Turon.

He was born July 20, 1928, at Frontenac, the son of John A. and Katherina Hallacy Youvan. He was a graduate of Frontenac High School.

He served as a Seaman 1st in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Shriner Lodge and the Mirza Temple Masonic No. 187, Pittsburg. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church, Offerle.

He married Betty J. Webster on June 10, 1982. He was a motel owner and manager in Arizona, Colorado, and Kansas. He had been a resident of Turon since 1997.

Survivors include: his wife, of the home; a son, Gregory Youvan, Chanute; three daughters, Sharon K. Leeper, Wilmore, Kimberly Sue Zweygardt, St. Francis, and Shelly Freeman, Garden City; a brother, L.A. Youvan, Colorado Springs, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack A. Youvan.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Avery Rutledge presiding. A private family inurnment will take place.

Memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Church, Offerle, and sent in care of the funeral home.

Mildred Pierce
SMITH CENTER - Mildred West Pierce, 89, died Feb. 22, 2005.

She was the mother of Lynn Pierce, Stafford, and Dean Pierce, Ellsworth.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Simmons-Olliff-Boeve Chapel, Smith Center.

Louise Carlson
Louise Carlson, 67, died Feb. 23, 2005, at The Vyne at Crestview, Wichita.

She was born Jan. 5, 1938, at Chase, the daughter of Herman and Sarah Scott Bayer. She was a graduate of Chase High School and attended business college. A longtime Hutchinson resident, she was a homemaker.

She belonged to Amvets No. 36 Auxillary, Wichita, and Iris Club, Hutchinson.

On Sept. 24, 1987, she married Robert E. "Gene" Carlson at Riviera, Ariz. He died May 15, 1999.

Survivors include: two daughters, Deonne Caro and Doreen Hull, both of Wichita; a brother, Floyd Bayer, Wichita; four sisters, Carol Reynolds, Rush Center, Elizabeth Bomba, Garden City, Esther Delimont, Lebanon, and Shirley Schendzielos, Hays; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Dan Price presiding. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Lakin Comanche Cemetery, Ellinwood. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.

Memorials may be sent to Amvets Post No. 36, Wichita, in care of the mortuary.

Deloris A. Berends
NORTH NEWTON - Deloris A. Berends, 67, died Feb. 22, 2005, at Newton Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 18, 1937, at Walter, Okla., the daughter of James and Vesta Kelso Bennett.

She belonged to Assembly of God Church.

On Oct. 24, 1957, she married Robert Berends at Pawnee, Okla. He survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Alvin, Newton, and Arnold, Dallas; two daughters, Deanna Thiessen, Whitewater, and Dinah Johnson, Hutchinson; a brother, Richard Bennett, Fairfax, Okla.; two sisters, Joann Treat, Fairfax, and Pat Scott, Pawnee; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, four sisters and three grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel, Newton. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m., with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Woodland Cemetery, Cleveland, Okla.

Memorials may be sent to Ronald McDonald House, in care of the funeral home.

Gene R. Meier
SALINA - Gene Richard Meier, 67, died Feb. 23, 2005, at Salina.

He was born Aug. 11, 1937, at Dorrance, the son of George John and Lena Anna Bertha Luerman Meier. He graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor's degree in 1959 and a master's degree in 1962. He worked as a science and driver's education teacher at Salina USD 305. He started teaching at Salina High School in 1967, moving to Salina in 1971 and retiring in 1996. He was a three-year letterman in football at K-State University, earning All-Conference honors each year and serving as captain during the 1958 season.

He belonged to Russell Masonic Lodge, and Elks Club and University United Methodist Church, both at Salina.

On Sept. 3, 1971, he married Janet Louise Wisby at Manhattan. She survives.

Other survivors include: a son; a daughter, Holli Schneider, Hutchinson; a stepson; a stepdaughter; a brother, Melvin, Dorrance; a sister; nine grandchildren; and an adopted grandson.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at University United Methodist Church, Salina, with the Rev. David Bolz presiding. Burial will in Bunker Hill Cemetery, Bunker Hill.

Memorials may be sent to Bunker Hill Historical Society, in care of Carlson-Ford-Geisendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, Salina.
