Oliver Lowe

Oliver Donal Lowe, 86, of Pikeville, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2015.

He was born in Pikeville, Dec. 18, 1927, the son of the late Ance and Ida Sesco Lowe.

He worked as a mechanic for Lowe’s Repair Shop and was a member of the Pilgrims Home Old Regular Baptist Church, Varney.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Lowe; and one sister, Violet Lowe.

He is survived by his wife, Dixie (Rose) Parsons Lowe; one son, Donald (Don) Lowe of Lexington; three daughters, Bonnie Reynolds of Grethel, Glenda France of Lexington and Carol Freeman of Madison, Ala.; one sister, Ana Justine Coleman of Pikeville; four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Funera l services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, Feb. 2, in the Pilgrims Home Old Regular Baptist Church, Grethel, with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial followed in the Bush Cemetery, Harold. Arrangements were under direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home of Martin.

Osie Mills

Osie Mills, 89, of Williamson, W.Va., died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015, at the Tug Valley Appalachian Regional Medical Center, South Williamson.

She was born Oct. 6, 1925, the daughter of the late Alvin and Truly Maynard Bowling.

She worked many years as a cook at the Tug Valley Country Club, and the Moose and Elk lodges of Williamson. She was also a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Williamson.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Mills Sr.; two sons, Robert Bruce Mills and Jerry Michael Mills; two sisters, Chloe Jenkins and Maggie Frazier; and one brother, Dallas Bowling.

She is survived by two children, Thomas Mills Jr. of Hardy and Janice Repass of Wake Forest, N.C.; one brother, Thomas Bowling Jr. of Turkey Creek; one sister, Verda King of Belfry; four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, in the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Don Varney and Aaron Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy. Arrangements are under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.

Josephine Osborne

Josephine Osborne, 92, of Caney Highway, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 1, 1923, the daughter of the late Mont and Margie Collins Bowling.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Caney Creek Old Regular Baptist Church since 1978.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Wellman Tackett; her second husband, Robert Lee Osborne; one daughter, Bonnie Smallwood; and one infant son, Ronald Tackett.

She is survived by four sons, Charles Tackett Jr. of Winchester, Gene Wellman Tackett of Beefhide, Terry Lee Tackett of Colley Hills and Robert Joseph Osborne of Dorton; one daughter, Carlene Haley of Indianapolis; one brother, Billy Bowling of London; one sister, Florine Osborne of Caney; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, in the Caney Creek Old Regular Baptist Church with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Johnson Family Cemetery, Mouth of Rockhouse Fork of Caney. Arrangements are under direction of Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. Wednesday, at the church, with services nightly at 7.

Patricia Ousley

Patricia Ousley, 49, of Harold, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015, at her home.

She was born in Pike County, March 16, 1965, the daughter of the late Ralph Moore and Betty Jean Adams Moore.

She was a homemaker and of the Freewill Baptist faith.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Danny Ray Moore and Ricky Karrel Moore.

She is survived by her husband, Willie Ousley Jr.; one son, Joe Owsley (Jessica) of Harold; two daughters, Stephanie Nicole Music (David) and Tyrah McKune, both of Harold; one brother, Paul Edward Moore of Long Fork of Virgie; two sisters, Jennifer Louise Newsome of Penny Road and Dwanna Michele Johnson of Robinson Creek; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, in the Energyville Freewill Baptist Church with Garret Tackett and David Bentley officiating. Burial will follow in the Sabastian Johnson Cemetery, Virgie. Arrangements are under direction of Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.

Cheryl Qualls

Cheryl Qualls, 59, passed away quietly at home on Jan. 27, 2015.

Born in Michigan, she was married to Bobby Qualls for 39 years.

She is survived by one brother in Michigan and one sister in Texas.

She was a member of Mikes Branch Church of Christ. She had a strong faith, and was a good woman and wife. She liked woodworking and fishing.

She asked to be cremated. A private service was held at Mikes Branch Church of Christ. The wonderful people at Thacker Memorial Funeral Home took care of her and we thank them.

Cheryl never asked for much.

I ask that everyone who knew her, to remember her humor, for now she is at peace, not hurting.

Virginia Stidham

Virginia Ruth Reese Stidham, 72, of Elkhorn Creek, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015, at Shelby Gap.

She was born in Pikeville, Feb. 19, 1942, the daughter of the late Leon Reese and Vesta Reese.

She was a homemaker.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walker Stidham.

She is survived by two daughters, Gina Ratliff and Shawn Potter; one brother, Q.V. Reese; three grandchildren, Kristi Strouth, Anetha Ratliff and Shawna Hensley; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Donnie Kay Bryant and Jimmie Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Sanders Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Mary Taylor

Mary Elizabeth Taylor, 86, of Hatfield, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015.

She was born Oct. 28, 1928, the daughter of the late Jess Staton and Ethel Goff Staton Walters.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Belfry United Methodist Church.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Mont Stepp; her second husband, Raymond Taylor; one son, Danny Stepp; and her stepfather, James Seton Walters.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Stepp of South Williamson and James Stepp of Turkey Creek; five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, in the Belfry United Methodist Church with Mike Stanley officiating. Burial will follow in the Stepp Cemetery, Hatfield. Arrangements are under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.

Nellie Taylor

Nellie Taylor, 86, of Pikeville, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born in Pike County, Aug. 26, 1928, the daughter of the late Sterling Sesco and Lora Lowe Sesco.

She was a homemaker.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Amos Sesco, Jimmy Sesco, Bill Sesco, Ed Sesco and Earsel Sesco; two sisters, Stella (Archie) Clevinger and Ollie Marie (Clayton) Maynard.

She is survived by her husband, Carmel Ray Taylor; three sons, Lester Taylor of Sycamore Road, Nelson Taylor (Sharon) and Norman Taylor (Jessica) of Bevins Lane; one daughter, Deloris Blackburn (Andy) of Lower Johns Creek; one sister, Della (Harlene) Adkins of Greasy Creek; three grandchildren, Amanda B. Bailey, Madison Brooke Taylor and Grayson Ray Taylor; five great-grandchildren, Zackary Sword, Alex Sword, Elijah Sword, Emily Sword and Olivia Sword; and two great-great grandchildren, Shane Sword and Shannon Sword.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, in the Community Funeral Home Chapel, with Tim McClanahan officiating. Burial followed at the C. Ray Taylor Cemetery, Sycamore. Arrangements were under direction of Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.

Barbara Maynard

Barbara Cornette Maynard, 90, of May Road, Thomasville, N.C., formerly of Pike County, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at Lexington Health Care Center, Thomasville.

She was born in Pike County, May 23, 1922, the daughter of the late Floyd Cornette and Edna Williamson Cornette.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Lexington Church of Christ in North Carolina.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Maynard Jr.

She is survived by two sons, Nelson Maynard of Thomasville and Larry Maynard of Washington; two sisters, Lucille Walters and Sylvia Manha, both of Belfry; one grandson, Ricky Maynard of Thomasville; and one great-grandson.

Graveside services were held Sunday, Dec. 23, in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, with Donnie Estep officiating. Arrangements were under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.

Beatrice Moore

Beatrice “Perkey” Moore, 84, of Oxford, Ohio, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Oxford of Knolls.

She was born in Floyd County, Feb. 17, 1928, the daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson and Janet Booth Perkey.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by three sons, Jack McPeek (Brenda) of Gallipolis, Ohio, Michael McPeek (Debbie) of Martinsville, Va., and Charles Patrick McPeek (Cyndi) of Lakeland, Fla.; one daughter, Laurita McPeek Rhoton (Tim); eight grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, in the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with entombment following in Annie E. Young Cemetery, Shelbiana. Arrangements are under direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.
