Quay Skaggs of Magnolia

Quay Skaggs, age 81 years, of Magnolia, passed away, Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at the University of Louisville Hospital.

The native of Green County was retired from LG&E;, member of Liberty Baptist Church in Green County, attended Steadfast Baptist Church in Hodgenville, an Army veteran, an avid UK fan and a staunch Republican.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Moody and Nola Durrett Skaggs, three sisters, Virgie Boston, Clarene Berry and Wilmadean Luttrell and two brothers, Kenneth Skaggs and Athel Skaggs.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Ragland Skaggs, two sons, Steve (Linda) Skaggs of Buffalo and Troy Skaggs of Mt. Sherman, a sister, Ellouise Moore of Louisville, a brother, Boyce Skaggs of Louisville, a granddaughter, Chrissy DeSpain and a great-grandson, Zachary DeSpain.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia with the Rev. Rodney Troutman officiating. Entombment will follow in the Buffalo Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-8 PM Saturday and after 9 AM Sunday at the funeral home.

John T. Meers, Jr. of Buffalo

John Tilden Meers, Jr., age 88 years, of Buffalo, passed away, Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.

He was the owner and operator of Meers Tire Center for several years, was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church, a World War II Navy Veteran, having served in the Navy Seabees, a 65 year member of the Buffalo Lodge #570 F & AM, co-founder of the Buffalo Lions Club, former Buffalo Volunteer Fire Chief, a Kosair Shriner, and an active community leader, who was instrumental in promoting the town of Buffalo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John T. Meers, Sr. and Francis Shaw Meers, and a sister, Aileen Dietz.

He is survived by his wife, Genrose Polley Meers, three sons, Charles R. (Dr. Fran Brennan) Meers of Louisville, J.T. (Patsy Thomas) Meers and Dale (Kay) Meers all of Buffalo, a sister, Phyllis Eckerle of Louisville, three brothers, Boyce (Eva) Meers of Clarksville, TN, David Paul (Roxie) Meers of Louisville, and Rev. Harold G. (Shirley) Meers of Illinois, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia with Rev. Harold G. Meers officiating. Burial will follow in the Magnolia Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-8 PM Friday, and after 11 AM Saturday at the funeral home.

Julie Elaine Buckner of Campbellsville

Julie Elaine Buckner, age 65, of Campbellsville, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2016, at the Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville.

A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she was a member of True Way Ministries, a retired teachers aide for Jefferson County Public Schools and a Kentucky Colonel.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Lula Thompson Tummins; her father, Eddie Fisher; her step-father, Luther Mick Stark and a brother, Doug Stark.

She is survived by her husband, James A. "Jimmy" Buckner; three daughters, Bridget D. (Scott) Hess of Henry Co., KY, Michelle A. Haney of Campbellsville and Jamie K Smith of New Albany, IN; four grandchildren, Clinton Smith, Seth Shinn, Anjel Smith and Matthew Haney; three sisters, Arlene Underwood of Buffalo, Becky (Donnie) Thompson of Hodgenville and Sandy (Gary) Hegman of Champion, MI and two brothers, Bob Stark of Campbellsville and Richard Stark of Baxley, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM (ET), Sunday, February 21, 2016, at the Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia with Bro. Randy Buckles officiating. Burial will follow in the Pearl Webb Cemetery in Canmer.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM (ET), Saturday and after 11 AM (ET), Sunday at the funeral home.

Genrose Ward of Magnolia

Genrose Ward, age 92, of Magnolia, passed away, Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the Glasgow Health & Rehabilitation Center.

She was a farmer and a homemaker, member of Magnolia Baptist Church, and attended Pikeview Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Eura Ward and Ernest Jackson, her parents, Bill and Maude Dobson Nunn, and a sister, Deva Dye.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathay Sturgeon Ward of Glasgow and Della Wood of Hodgenville, six grandchildren, Barry (Joan) Beams, Sandy Wright, Tammy (Aaron) Gibson, Angela (Blake) Aldridge, Terry Beams, and Ashton Sturgeon, six great-grandchildren, Brandon Wright, Nathan Wright, Daniel Wright, Danielle Evans, Andrew Beams, and Cameron Beams, two step-great-grandchildren, Bradley Gibson and Erin Gibson, and three great-great-grandchildren, Chase Wright, Peyton Wright, and Charlotte Wright.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM (EDT) Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at the Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia. Burial will follow in the Magnolia Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-8 PM (EDT) Monday, and after 10 AM (EDT) Tuesday at the funeral home.

Wanda Moore Beatty of Linwood

Wanda Moore Beatty, age 83, of Linwood, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014, at the Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.

She was a homemaker and owner of Beatty's Antiques.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Beatty; her parents, Lewis Marion and Oda Lillian Morgan Moore and several siblings.

She is survived by two daughters, Christine (Brent) Shelton of Linwood and Barbara Polk of Louisville; a son, Bryan Lee (Karen) Beatty of Louisville; six granddaughters, Allison Beatty, Madeline Beatty, Caroline Shelton, Anita Blount, April Wang and Virginia Anderson; a sister, Shirley Rucker of Louisville and a brother, Larry (Darlene) Moore of Taylorsville.

In keeping with Wanda's wishes, she was cremated and the family will conduct a private memorial service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Salvation Army or the charity of your choice.

Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia is in charge of the arrangements.

Harry Michael "Poss" Coffey of Hodgenville

Harry Michael "Poss" Coffey, age 56, of Hodgenville, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2015, at his residence.

He was a member of Union Christian Church, a lifetime member of AQHA, a member of the LaRue County Saddle Club and was instrumental in the training of several award winning quarter horses; an avid coon hunter with memberships in the Cherry Tree and North Central KY Coon Hunters Clubs; his other interests include farming and tractor pulling.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Georgia Stillwell Coffey.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Coffey; his daughter, Carey Lynne Coffey of Hodgenville; two sisters, Sharon (Roy) Hornback of Elizabethtown and Renee Coffey of Hodgenville and a brother, Billy Coffey of Hodgenville.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at the Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Bro. Steve Campbell and Rev. Billy Curle officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Christian Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 PM Tuesday and after 9 AM Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ronnie Ritchie of Louisville

Ronnie Eugene Ritchie, age 70, of Louisville, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital.

He was retired from the Painters Union Local #118.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sondra Noe Reid Ritchie.

He is survived by three brothers, Roy Logsdon, Bob Ritchie and Danny Combs; a sister, Faye Snead and five step-children, Vicki Weber, Pam Roberts, Tim Reid, Gail Milby and Debbie Mujica.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, November 8, 2014 at the Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia with burial to follow in the Mt. Salem Church Cemetery near Magnolia.

Visitation begins after 10 AM, Saturday at the funeral home.
