Elmer Thacker, 87 of Huddy, KY, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2011 at his home after a lingering illness.
Elmer was born June 10, 1924 at Canada, Ky. the son of the late Landon and Stella Smith Thacker. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Fred Smith, Floyd B., Bobby, Billy, Tunis and Sammy Thacker and one sister, Goldie Williamson.
Elmer was a retired coal miner from Eastern Coal Corp. and also retired from Nutone in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a faithful member and ordained minister of the Primitive Baptist Church since January 16, 1966 and a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his loving wife, Beatrice Irene Blackburn Thacker of Huddy, Ky.; Timothy Dwayne Thacker of the Home; daughter, Mary Ellen (Skeeter) West of Canada, Ky.; four brothers, R. T. Thacker of Wellington, KY, Jack Thacker of Cincinnati, Ohio, Edgar Thacker and Sonny Thacker both of Canada, Ky.; two sisters, Lena Mae Biesecker of Newark, De. and Barbara Leedy of Canada, Ky.; three grandchildren, Amanda Ryan, Johnathan Russell and Nicholas Clayton West all of Canada, Ky. and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Sunday September 25, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Mike Elswick, Randall Thornsbury, David Allen Thacker and David May officiating. Burial will follow at Coburn Point Cemetery with Nephews serving as pallbearers.
Belfry Chapter #141 will conduct Military Graveside Services.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Friday and Saturday night at the funeral home with special services both nights at 7 PM.

Paula Jean Reed, 45 of Sidney, KY, passed away Wednesday night, September 21, 2011 at her residence.
She was born May 1, 1966 at Williamson, W.V. to Nita Jean Smith West of Sidney, Ky. and the late Tunis West. She is also preceded in death by her grandparents; Cullen and Ethel Smith and Finis and Flora West. She was a homemaker and a member of the Williamson Area Church of Christ.
Besides her mother she is survived by her husband; Phillip Rodney Reed, daughter; Ashley Elyse Tussey of South Williamson, Ky. brothers; Steve West of Sidney, Ky and Jarrod West of Sidney, Ky. sisters; Sandy Reed of Canada, Ky. and Allyson Kendrick of Sidney, Ky. and a host of loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Monday September 26, 2011 at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Charles Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Crigger Cemetery Sidney, Ky with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held after 6 PM Saturday and Sunday at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Ky. with special services at 7 PM Sunday night.

Lucas Vernon Whitt, 30, of Ransom, KY, passed away September 23, 2011 at his residence.
He was born October 26, 1980 at South Williamson, Ky. to Claude Herman Whitt of Ransom, KY, and Connie (Bucky) Scott of Hardy, KY, He is also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; Vernon and Sadie Whitt, maternal grandparents; Olen Thomas and Lou Wanna Pope and a special aunt; Shirley Conley and his cousin; Brandon Pope.
He was a coal miner.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife; Amy Justice Whitt, children; Lucas Cooper Whitt and Emma Grace Whitt of the home, brothers; Eric (Jody) Whitt of Ransom, KY, Adam Whitt of Ransom, Ky, , and Cory Del Scott of Hardy, Ky. step brothers; Bruce Scott of Stone, KY, Brian Scott of Stone, KY, and Steve Scott of Hardy, KY, step sister; Crystal Scott of Pinsonfork, KY, sister-in-law; Leah Ray of Hardy, KY, brother-in-law; B. J. Justice of Lancaster, KY, special nieces and nephews; Dalton Whitt, Cassie Whitt and Brady Whitt all of Ransom, KY, and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Family and Friends.
He will be sadly missed by all that knew him and loved him.Lucas was a great man to be around. He was a loving, caring, funny and so energetic. He loved everyone and cared deeply for his family, his wife and his children.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Tuesday September 27, 2011 at R. R. Rogers Funeral Home with Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Whitt Cemetery, Ransom, Ky. with Eric Whitt, Adam Whitt, Cory Del Scott, Bruce Scott, Josh Jones, Jackson Thacker, J. R. Coley, David Conley Jr., Shawn Scott, Cory Rose and Chris Rose serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Monday night at the funeral home with special services at 7 PM with Buddy Kendrick officiating.

Myrtha Lowe Skinner, 94, of Ravenna, OH, formerly of Hatfield, Ky. passed away Saturday, September 24, 2011 in the Maplewood Care Center, Streetsboro, Ohio.
She was born July 12, 1917 at Hatfield, Ky. the daughter of the late Tandy D. Lowe Sr. and Mary L. Caines Lowe. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward Skinner; sister, Blanche Nelson; brothers, Blake Lowe and Don Lowe Jr. and a grandson, Joseph Edward Lowe.
Myrtha was a homemaker and a member of the North Peninsula Baptist Church, Ormond Beach, Fl.
Survivors include her loving son, Joe (Rachel) Lowe of Ravenna, Ohio; sisters, Lois Trout of Chattaroy, WV and Louise Sanford of Ocala, FL; grandchildren, Karen Murphy and Debbie Anderson; great grandchildren, Tonya Beetler, Dawn Murphy, Monica Murphy, Joella Murphy, Taylor Anderson, Megan Anderson and Chelsey Anderson and one little great great granddaughter, Emily Edwards.
Visitation will be held from 10 AM till 12 PM Thursday, September 29, 2011at the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with the Funeral Service at 12 PM with Eddie Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Lowe Cemetery, Hatfield, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

James "Landon" Taylor II of Ocala, Fl. previously from Pike County, Ky. went home to be with his Heavenly Father on September 22, 2011.
He was born to Rush Bege and Carrie Jane McCoy Taylor, February 29, 1920 in Thomas, Ky.
Landon cherished his family and friends. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, walking and the outdoors. Landon was a World War II Army veteran serving in the ETO 3rd Army 178th Combat Engineers building Bailey Bridges crossing the Rhine River and placing wire to protect the infantrymen on the front lines in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received three bronze stars for his service to our nation. Thank you Dad for fighting for our freedom!
He dedicated his life to Jesus Christ and was baptized on the 3rd Saturday in May, 1954.
In October of 1957, he became a Deacon at Big Branch serving as Clerk at Turkey Creek and Treasurer of the Sardis Association Old Regular Baptist Church. Thank you Dad, for showing us the way to heaven!
After 26 years service to Appalachian Regional Hospitals, Landon retired as a Printing Supervisor. Thank you Dad, for providing for your family! You were the very best husband and father. We will love you forever and always.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Lakie Taylor of Ocala, Fl, Daughters; Lanise Weidle (Charles) of Middletown, OH and Loretta Leach (Doug) of Versailles, KY, Son; James Landon Taylor, III (Catherine) of Ocala, Fl, 8 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren; brothers. James Moses Taylor of Ironton, OH and Lloyd Taylor of Ft. Worth, TX.
Viewing will be at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, KY on Friday, September 30, 2011 from 6 till 8 PM. Funeral services will be at 3 PM Saturday, October 1, 2011 at the Big Branch Old Regular Baptist Church on Lower Brushy Creek, Ky. with a visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will follow in the Taylor Cemetery, Big Branch, Ky. with Belfry Chapter #141 DAV conducting Military Graveside Services. R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry is in charge of arrangements.

Frank Duncan Jr. 88, of Williamson, WV passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Ky.
Frank was born August 6, 1923 at Allock, Ky. the son of the late Frank and Stella Brown Duncan. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Edith Duncan.
He was a retired airplane mechanic for the North American Rockwell Co., now owned by Boeing and a veteran of the United States Army.
Survivors include his two sons, Phillip D. Duncan of Belfry, Ky. and Frank Duncan of Aptos, California; two sisters, Mable Eaton of Florida and Katherine Anderson of Virginia and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 3, 2011 at 1 PM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Mark Helton officiating. Burial will follow in the Lenore Memorial Gardens, Lenore, WV with Belfry Chapter #141 D.A.V. conducting Military Graveside Services.
Visitation will be held from 12 Noon till time for the Funeral Services.

Lou Ellen Bunn, 78, of Canada, Kentucky, died Monday, October 3, 2011 in the South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Born January 18, 1933 at Stone, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Fannie (Stanley) Coleman. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Bunn; daughter, Nancy Ruth Bunn; two brothers, Henry Smith and Phillip Stanley and one sister, Mary Jane Stanley.
She was a homemaker who loved to bake and cook for her family and friends. Lou Ellen was a member of the Bells of Joy United Baptist Church.
She is survived by three sons, William Thomas Bunn, Steven Michael Bunn and Charles Edward Bunn all of Baltimore, Md.; two daughters, Gloria Jean Reed of Radcliffe, Ky. and Mary Elizabeth Stanley of Canada, Kentucky; two sisters, Diana Rogers of Russell Springs, Ky. and Betty Varney of North Carolina; thirteen grandchildren; one great grandchild and a host of loving friends.
Funeral Services will be held 1 P.M. Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel, Belfry Kentucky with Dennis Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held after 6 P.M. Tuesday evening with special services at 7 P.M.

James Leon Hatfield, 76, of Phelps, KY, passed away Tuesday October 4, 2011 at the Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born February 6, 1935 in Pike County, Ky. the son of the late Tomps and Annie Boyd Hatfield.
He was a loving Father, Grandfather and Brother and retired coal miner.
He is survived by two sons, Rocky T. (Judy) Hatfield of Phelps, Ky. and James R. (Teresa) Hatfield of Stone, Ky.; daughter, Delores (Eddie) Fugate of Hazard, Ky.; brothers, Delmer Hatfield of Ransom, Ky. and Ezra Hatfield of Belfry, Ky.; sisters, Bonita Bevins and Pauline Smith both of Ransom, Ky. and Cleo Woodword of Florida; grandchildren, Cheyann Hatfield, Daniel Hatfield, Shannon Dotson, Matthew Ellis, Tiffany Dotson, Christy Ann Wolford, Christina Faye Moore and Elizabeth Chanell Fugate and great grandchildren, Jadyian Almza and Elizabeth Faye Moore.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 7, 2011 at 11 AM at the Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church with Emery Varney and Junior Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Family Cemetery, Middlefork of Blackberry, Ky. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held after 6 PM Wednesday and Thursday at the Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church with special services both nights at 7 PM.
