Anna Belle Collins Howell
Anna Belle Collins Howell, 80, of Prestonsburg, died Monday, Septem-ber 8, 2003, at Highlands Regional Medical Center.
Born December 21, 1922, at Cliff, she was the daughter of the late Albert Collins and Maggie Spradlin Collins. She was a homemaker and member of the Community United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, John Scott Howell of Prestonsburg.
Other survivors include one daughter, Glenna Kay Click of Prestonsburg; three sons, Tommy Hershel Howell, and Scotty Howard Howell, both of Prestonsburg, Wendell Ray Howell of Ashland; one brother, Haskell Glenn Collins of Kingston, Tennessee; 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, John Edward Howell.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, September 11, at 11 a.m., at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, Prestonsburg, with Rev. Steve Williams officiating.
Interment will be at the Collins Family Cemetery, Spradlin Branch, Prestonsburg.
Visitation is Wednesday, 5 p.m., until 9 p.m.
Pallbearers: Jamie Howell, Anthony Howell, John Click, Norman Scott Howell, Andrew Howell, Jesse Chaffin, Matt Setser, Sam Chaffin, Johnny Webb, and Austin Shuck.
Carter Funeral Home is serving the Howell family.

Loyd “Claude” Shepherd
Loyd “Claude” Shepherd, age 75, of Kendallville, Indiana, died unexpectedly on Sunday, September 7, 2003, at the Cameron Hospital in Angola.
He was born in Hueysville, Kentucky, on March 23, 1928, the son of the late Benjamin and Burlie Coburn Shepherd. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He started South Side Sewer Service in Kendallville in 1966. He then began A1 Plumbing in Kendallville and operated for many years. He retired in 1985 from Dana Corp in Fort Wayne, after 30 years. He also was a retired pastor for more than 25 years, and was a membr of the Independent Full Gospel Church in Ashley. He married Vada F. Edwards on January 29, 1951, in Agola, Indiana, and she survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Loyd Shepherd Jr., Gene Shepherd and Michael Shepherd, all of Kendallville; one daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Ken Wisniewski of Kendallville; three sisters, Norma Lovely and Tillie Stevens, both of Kendallville, and Faye Shepherd of Hueysville; one brother and sister-in-law, Alex and Vivian Shepherd of Kendallville; eight grandchildren, Chad and Shawn Prince of Kendallville, Brittany, Summer, Tyler, Ben, Dustin and Austin Shepherd, all of Kendallville; one great-grandchild, Ethan Prince.
He was preceded in death by his son, Brad Shepherd on May 29, 2003; two brothers, Coy and Owen Shepherd; and one sister, Phyllis Reed.
Visitation is at Bethel Christian Baptist Church, at the corner of US 6 West and SR 9 North Kendallville.
An evening service was held at 7 p.m., on Tuesday.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, September 10, at 1 p.m., at Bethel Christian Baptist Church.
Burial will be at the Lake View Cemetery in Kendallville.
Preferred memorials are to Independent Full Gospel Church in Ashley.

Samuel Jarrell
Samuel Jarrell, 76, of West Portsmouth, Ohio, died Friday, August 29, 2003, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.
He was born October 26, 1926, in Dana, the son of the late Epp Jarrell and Millie Rice Jarrell.
Surviving are daughters, Mary K. Hall, Jennie Huff, Debbie Kazee and Teresa Pierce; sons, Eppie Lee, Paul Randall and Sammy Lee Jarrell; brother, Carl Lee Jarrell; sisters, Lillie Baker, Della Curtis, Ruby Scutchfield, and Emmel Wallen; and 16 grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday, September 2, at Don Wolfe Funeral Home in Sciotoville, with the Rev. Curtis Riley officiating, and interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was at the funeral home.

Glenna Brown
Glenna Brown, 60, of Garrett, died Thursday, September 4, 2003, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
Born June 24, 1943, in Garrett, she was the daughter of the late Guy (Serge) and Mary Hicks Daniels. She was a homemaker and a member of the Rock Fork Regular Baptist Church at Garrett.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgel Brown.
Survivors include two sons, Christopher Brown and Tyler Devan Brown, both of Garrett; three daughters, Kathy Brown, Heather Brown and Kari Brown, all of Garrett; daughter of the heart, Shonda Lawson of Lexington; a brother, Freddie Daniels of Garrett; five sisters, Charlotte Holbrook of Kendallville, Indiana, Doralene Whitehead of Warrensburg, Missouri, Nadine Hackett of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Kay Poling of Chilicothe, Ohio, and Clotine Conley of Lackey; and five grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Guy Brown.
Funeral services will be Sunday, September 7, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, in Martin, with Jerry Manns and others officiating.
Burial will be in the Guy Brown Cemetery at Garrett, under direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Visitation is at the funeral home.

Edward Howell
Edward Howell, of Detroit, Michigan, passed away, August 27, 2003.
He was born in McDowell, Kentucky, on July 5, 1917, to Hobert and Tildy (Osborne) Howell, both now deceased.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Gerald Howell; and two brothers Reed Howell, and Claude Howell; three sisters Ruby Howell, Georgia Hampton, and Lacie Pratt. He lived most of his life in Detroit, Michigan. He retired from the Cadillac Division of General Motors.
He is survived by three sons, Rudolph, Roger, and Donald Howell; and one brother Crit Howell. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-children, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on September 5, 2003 at Byron Cemetery in Fairborn, Ohio.

Peter Lalich
Peter Lalich, 68, of Lebanon, Ohio, died Tuesday, September 2, 2003, at Bethesda Warren County.
Born January 10, 1935, in Wheelwright, the son of Eli and Irene (nee;Rasphovich) Lalich, he was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired from Voss Chevrolet in 1996, after fifteen years of service as a mechanic. He was a member of the Lebanon American Legion, and he also worked at James Service for many years, and the Lebanon Raceway for 25 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Paul Lalich.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Rozelia (nee:Lawson) Lalich of Lebanon; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert and Debbie Lalich of Springboro, Ohio; and James Lalich of New York City, NY; one brother, Nicholas Lalich of Richmond, Virginia; one sister, Dorsen Dowell of Louisville; one sister-in-law, Pauline Lalich of Orleans, Indiana; three grandchildren, Kyle, Matthew, and Stephen Lalich, all of Springboro; and one great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Lalich of Springboro.
A graveside service, under the direction of Oswald-Hoskins Funeral Home, will be held on Friday, September 5, at 1 p.m., at the Lebanon Cemetery, with Reverend Douglas Steinke and Reverend Mark Shimer officiating.
Visitation is at the funeral home, in Lebanon.

Harry Edward Bartuka
Harry Edward Bartuka, 76, of Hardy, Virginia, formerly of Wheelwright, Kentucky, died at his home on Wednesday, September 3, 2003.
He was born December 23, 1926, in Coretta, West Virginia. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army, and saw action in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Following his discharge, he lived in Wheelwright, Kentucky, where he worked as a mechanic for Inland Steel. He also worked as a shop mechanic for Island Creek Coal Company in Wheelwright, Kentucky and Oakwood, Virginia. He was a lifelong member of the UMWA. He was an outdoor enthusiast and hunter with a special gentleness toward animals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Alice Butterworth Bartuka; two brothers, Frank Albert and John Jasper Bartuka; and three sisters, Cora Hurt, Virginia Cooley, and Frances Cramer.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marlene Deal Bartuka of Hardy, and son, Kenneth Edward Bartuka of Ogunquit, Maine.
Other survivors include three sisters, Evelyn Hornbarger of Rockville, Maryland, Geraldine Smith of Hardy, Virginia, and Mary Lee Hill of California. His in-laws include Mary Lee and Richard Shockley of Marion, Illinois, Patty and Paul Collins of Florence, Kentucky, Nancy and Rodney Hunter of LaGrange, Indiana, Gwynne and George Katzenbach of Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania, Bill Cramer of Anderson, South Carolina, Freda Bartuka of Wheelwright, Kentucky. Special people in his life, Denver Osborne of Hi Hat, Kentucky, (first friend), Deb “Angel Girl” Dimmick of Ogunquit, Maine, the entire Lewis Huff family, especially Megan, of Hardy, Virginia, Connie Genet of Norwood, Ohio, Foster Corbin of East Point, Georgia, Josephine Dickerson of Vinton, Virginia, and Marion Anderson of Vinton, Virginia.
Funeral services will be held at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel on Saturday, September 6, at 12 noon, with his brother-in-law, Richard Shockley officiating.
Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton.
Friends may call at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel all day Friday, where the family will be, from 2 to 4, and 7 to 9 p.m., to receive friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 3825 Electric Road, SW, Suite A, Roanoke, VA 24018, or Hardy Rescue Squad, Hardy, VA 24101.

Lelia Justice
Lelia Justice, age 92, of Franklin Furnace, Ohio, formerly of Prestonsbug, passed away, Tuesday, September 2, 2003, at her home at Franklin Furnace, Ohio, following an extended illness.
She was born July 30, 1911, at Endicott, the daughter of the late James F. (Tobe) and Rosie Hamilton Sellards.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Justice.
Other survivors include two sons, John McCoy of Greenup, and Bill Justice of Franklin Furnace, Ohio; and one daughter, Sue Dabe of Columbus, Ohio; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews of the Prestonsburg area.
Entombment services will be held Friday, September 5, at 2 p.m., at Rose Hill Chapel at Rose Hill Cemetery, at Ashland, Kentucky, with Rev. Dave Mcgranhan officiating.
Burke Funeral Home, Prestonsburg, is in charge of arrangements.
