Paula Jo Pigg Shannon
Paula Jo Pigg Shannon, 51, of Prestonsburg, died Monday, April 23, 2001, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, following an extended illness.
She was born April 5, 1950, in Prestonsburg.
She was a former registered nurse at Highlands Regional Medical Center, and a member of the First Baptist Church (Irene Cole) in Prestonsburg.
She is survived by her husband, John Kevin Shannon.
Other survivors include two daughters, Katie Gray and Tara Robinson, both of Prestonsburg; one step-son, Chris Michael of Lexington; and one grandson.
Memorial services will be conducted Thursday, April 26, at 1 p.m., at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, Prestonsburg, with Rev. Larry Adams officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the United Palsy Organization, 3601 Victory Parkway, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45229.

Doyle Glenn Adkins
Doyle Glenn Adkins, 59, died March 7, 2001, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, Ohio.
He was born April 22, 1941, in Letcher County, the son of Woodrow and Mae Adkins. He operated A&A Crafts and retired in 1984 as a small appliance repairman for Goodwill Industries. He was a member of the Lima Baptist Church and attended the Lafayette Missionary Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Elida Band Boosters, and Goodwill Industries worker. He attended McDowell High School. He was a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Smith Adkins.
Other survivors include two sons, Sean Adkins and Micheal Adkins, both of Lima, Ohio; two brothers, Charles Adkins of Tennessee, Lester Adkins of Lima, Ohio; three sisters, Carol Harris of Joseph, Oregon, Joyce Woods of Catlettsburg, and Sandra Hays of Cridersville, Ohio.
Funeral services were conducted at Lima Missonary Baptist Church, with Terry Brock officiating.
Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

Ruby Marie Wells
Ruby Marie Wells, 79, of Auxier, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
Born on March 11, 1922, in Floyd County, she was the daughter of the late Dennis Selvage and Celia Patrick Selvage.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Wells.
Survivors include two sons, Randall Wells of Auxier; three daughters, Phyllis Jewell Goble, Diana Sue Goble and Tammy Lee King, all of Auxier; one sister, Maxine Beirman Childers of Prestonsburg; 11 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, April 19, at the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel, with Dave Flanery and Gary Mitchell officiating.
Burial was in the Wells Family Cemetery, at Jockey Hollow, in Auxier.

Chester Gearheart
Chester Gearheart, 71, of Hueysville, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at his residence.
He was born August 30, 1929, in Salt Lick, the son of the late Frank and Mildred Ratliff Gearheart. He was a retired coal miner.
He is survived by his wife, Mavis Stone Gearheart.
Other survivors include four sons, Franklin Ray Gearheart of Willard, Ohio, Ricky Darrell Gearheart of Gunlock, Douglas Wayne Gearheart of Hueysville, and Gary Vance Gearheart of Royalton; three daughters, Sharon Rose Bryant and Beverly Ann Williamson, both of Prestonsburg, and Karen Kay Osborne of Eastern; one brother, Albert Gearheart of Lake Orion, Michigan; one half-brother, Herman Gayheart of Kissimmee, Florida; eight sisters, Gypsy Jones of Prestonsburg, Garnet Leveridge of Cornelius, South Carolina, Alma Salyer of Sidney, Michigan, Ruby Smith of Willard, Ohio, Jeanette Sparkman of Plymouth, Ohio, Violet Ward of Bourbonnais, Illinois, Verna Baldridge of Amlin, Ohio and Velma Morgan of Blackwood, New Jersey; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 21, 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Red Morris officiating.
Burial will be in the Gearheart Family Cemetery, at Hueysville.
Serving as pallbearers for the funeral of Chester Gearheart were Larry Osborne, Frank Gearheart, Wayne Gearheart, Ricky Gearheart, Albert Gearheart, Frog Gearheart, Ryan Gearheart, and Norman Bailey.
Honorary pallbearers were Willard Shepherd, Dolphen Ratliff, and Russell Allen.

Burta Link
Burta Link, 96, of Attica, Ohio, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at Oak Grove Manor Nursing Home, Mansfield, after an extended illness.
She was born May 26, 1904, in Floyd County, the daughter of the late Malcom and Parthenia Amburgy Gearheart. She was retired from the former Shelby Spring Hinge Co., and was a member of the Mansfield Faith Assembly Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Link.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 20, at the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, Attica, Ohio, with Rev. Edward Gayheart and Rev. Charles Saunders, of the Mansfield Faith Assembly Church, officiating.
Burial was in the Attica-Venice Township Cemetery.

Diana Belcher Lewis
Diana Belcher Lewis, 28, of Van Lear, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Shelbyville, following an automobile accident.
Born on November 17, 1972, at Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of Woodrow Belcher of Chicago, Illinois, and Hanna Fraley Belcher of Drift.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Joe Lewis.
Other survivors include her step-father, Arthur Sexton of Drift; two sons, Daniel Joseph Belcher of Van Lear, Barry David Robinson of Martin; one step-son, Jeffery Michael Lewis of Van Lear; one daughter, Lee Ann Mosley of McDowell; three brothers, Woodrow Belcher Jr. and Gregory Belcher, both of Wisconsin, Paul Belcher of Indiana; and one sister, Kimberly Rowe of Drift.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 18, at noon, at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Don Fraley Jr., and Ted Shannon officiating.
Burial will be in the Drift Cemetery.

Gracie Hicks
Gracie Hicks, 63, of Sturgis, Michigan, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
She was born April 15, 1937, in Wayland, the daughter of the late Laurel Huff, and Gladith Hall. She had resided in Sturgis since 1959, and retired from Grumman Olsen in Sturgis after 15 years of employment. Prior to that she has worked at G.F. Business Forms and Transogram, both in Sturgis.
Survivors include three sons, Timothy Hicks, Gregory Hicks and Johnny Hicks, all of Sturgis; two brothers, Ernest Hall of Sturgis and Kenneth Hall of Las Vegas, Nevada; two sisters, Shelby Wright and Arlene Gibson, both of Sturgis; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 16, at 1 p.m., at the Hackman-Foglesong Funeral Home, Sturgis, Michigan, with Rev. Dennis Wheeler of the Sturgis Church of Christ officiating.
Burial was in Sturgis Memorial Gardens.

Michael Joe Lewis
Michael Joe Lewis, 37, of Van Lear, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Shelbyville, following an automobile accident.
Born on October 18, 1963, at Marshall, Michigan, he was the son of Kennith and Lila Shepherd Lewis of Van Lear. He was a disabled mail carrier.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Diana Belcher Lewis.
Survivors include one son, Jeffery Michael Lewis of Van Lear; two step-sons, Daniel Joseph Belcher of Van Lear, Barry David Robinson of Martin; one step-daughter, Lee Ann Mosley of McDowell; three brothers, Kennith Ray Lewis and Eddie Lewis, both of Van Lear, Kelvin Lewis of Meta.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 18, at noon, at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Jim Smith and Lee Music officiating.
Burial will be in the Drift Cemetery, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.

Helen Louise May Burke
Helen Louise May Burke, 75, of Prestonsburg, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at the Highland Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg.
She was born January 17, 1926, at Dwale, the daughter of the late J.C. and Martha Elizabeth Laven May. She was a member of the Community United Methodist Church of Prestonsburg.
She is survived by her husband, John W. Burke Sr.
Other survivors include one son, John W. Burke Jr. of Prestonsburg; one brother, David May of Prestonsburg; one sister, Sallye Branham of Prestonsburg; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, April 17, at 11 a.m., at the Community United Methodist Church of Prestonsburg.
Burial was in the Richmond Cemetery in Prestonsburg, under the direction of Floyd Funeral Home, Prestonsburg.
Pallbearers were: Frank May, Glenn David May, Glenn David May II, Michael Branham, Michael Branham II, Chuckie May, Trent Owens and Tyler Burke.
Pallbearer was Charles G. May.
Honorary pallbearers were Russell Lavin, George Lavin, Jack Hyden, Estill Branham, Steve Shelton, Seldon Horn, C.J. McNally, Billy Pruitt, Bill Harvey Howard, Delmas Saunders, Delano May, Dr. Doug Adams, Shag Branham, Harry Burke and Tom Ed Music.
