Lewis Neeley
Lewis Neeley, 72, of Roundhead, Ohio, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at the Select Specialty Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
Born on March 14, 1929, in Floyd County, he was a son of the late Stonewall J. and Anna Stratton Neeley. He was a retired guard attendant at the Lima State Hospital.
He was a member of the Doyle Miller AMVETS Post 39 of Lakeview, Ohio; a member and past master of Wayne Lodge No. 569, F&AM; a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Toledo, a member of the Aladdin Temple of Columbus, Ohio; member of the Hardin County Shrine Club of Kenton, Ohio, a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 273 of Waynesfield, Ohio, where he was Worthy Patron for several years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge No. 3615, Indian Lake, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma M. Sparks.
Survivors include two sons, Steven Neeley of Roundhead, Ohio, Mark Neeley of Lakeview, Ohio; one brother, Lawrence Neeley of Alger, Ohio; one sister, Mary Douglas Gossard of Roundhead, Ohio; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
A Masonic memorial service was conducted, Sunday, April 1, 7:30 p.m., at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, Ohio.
Public graveside services were Monday, April 2, at 1 p.m., at Roundhead Cemetery, Roundhead, Ohio, with Rev. Fred Richards officiaiting.
Burial was in the Roundhead Cemetery, under the direction of Hanson-Neely Funeral Home.

Mary Alice Slone
Mary Alice Slone, 78, of Mallie, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital, following an extended illness.
Born on June 27, 1922, at Knott County, she was the daughter of the late Ira and Ora Boatwright Reynolds. She was a member of the Omaha Bible Church, at Pinetop.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Canton Slone.
Survivors include two sons, Donny Slone of Mallie, Ira Wendell Slone of Ohio; two daughters, Anna Lois Slone of North Carolina, Betty Lou Amburgey of Ohio; one sister, Mildred Combs of Mallie; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 5, at 11 a.m., at the Omaha Bible Church, at Pinetop, with Eston Amburgey officiating.
Burial will be in the Slone Family Cemetery, at Mallie, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.

Miriam R. Howell
Miriam R. Howell, 72, of Allen, died Saturday, March 31, 2001, in the Parkview Nursing Home in Robinson Creek, after an extended illness.
She was born on August 6, 1928, at Lykins, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Victor and Grace Metz Reitz. She was a retired bookkeeper for Turner Elkhorn Mining Company at Drift.
She was preceded in death by her husband, O. C. Howell.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda G. Howell of Dana; one brother, Henry Reitz of Martin; and one sister, Elsie Foster of Akron, Ohio.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, April 3, at 11 a.m., in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, in Martin, with Rev. George Love officiating.
Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel.
Pallbearers were Paul Campbell, Michael Reitz, Kristopher Reitz, Johnny Belcher, Jay Nelson, Tommy Jo Reitz, and Jeff Ratliff.
Honorary pallbearers were Robert L. Tackett, Ronnie Campbell and Frank Heinze.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a contribution be made to the American Cancer Society.

Patton Jay Duff
Patton Jay (Pat) Duff, 56, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at St. Lukes Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.
He was the owner-operator of Soft Water Service of Pound, Virginia, and was a member of the Clintwood Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Farmer and Anna Jane Mullins Duff.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela Varson Duff.
Other survivors include one daughter, Heather Ann Buchanon of Louisville; one son, Patton Joseph (Jay) Duff of Tampa, Florida; four sisters, Alice Faye Keels of Belteton, Virginia, Ella Mae Mullins of Clintwood, Virginia, Shirley Gaye Lafferty of Hueysville, and Ollie Kay Lockhart of McLean, Virginia; three brothers, Jimmy Ray Duff of Warrenton, Virginia, Roger Gray Duff of Timberville, Virginia, and Zachary Clay Duff of Marietta, Georgia; and one grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 28, in the Sadie Baker Memorial Chapel, of Baker Funeral Home, Pound, Virginia, with Evangelist Sewell Hall officiating.

Rita Sue Whicker Hall
Rita Sue Whicker Hall, 59, of Martin, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at her residence.
She was born July 3, 1941, in Pike County, the daughter of the late Reedy O. Whicker and Flo Ward Whicker Cooley. She was a retired hairdresser and a member of the Cosmotology Association.
She is survived by her husband, Ken L. Hall.
Other survivors include one son, Devan D. Hall of Martin; two daughters, Melinda Rene Moore of Langley, Ramona S. “Bucky” Hall of Chesapeake, Ohio; three brothers, Bobby Whicker of Tram, Mack Doug Whicker and Alan Reed Whicker, both of Martin; one sister, Lorraine Shepherd of Banner; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, April 1, at 2 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, at Martin, with the clergyman Larry Adams officiating.
Burial was in the Frasure Family Cemetery, at Martin.
Pallbearers were Doug Derossett, Donnie Shepherd, Wayne Shepherd, Bryan Grizzell, James Arnett and Chris Whicker.

Beulah Mae Wells Keel
Beulah Mae Wells Keel, 66, of Auxier, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital, following an extended illness.
Born on May 14, 1934, at Odds, she was the daughter of Malta Castle Wells, of Auxier, and the late Roland Wells. She was a dispatcher for the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department in Prestonsburg, and a member of the Auxier Freewill Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Franklin Keel of Inez.
Other survivors, include one daughter, Mary K. Moore of Auxier; one son, James E. NyBerg of West Van Lear; one brother, James Wells of Virginia Beach, Virginia; one step-brother, Elmer Watson of Auxier; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 4, at 1 p.m., at the Auxier Freewill Baptist Church, with Rev. Clifford Austin, Bobby Joe Spencer, and Calvin Setser, officiating.
Burial will be in the E.B. Auxier Cemetery, at Auxier, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Prestonsburg.

Bert Cartmell
Bert Cartmell, 99, of Prestonsburg, died Monday, April 2, 2001, at the Prestonsburg Health Care Center.
Born on December 14, 1901, in Buchannan, he was the son of the late James Cartmell and Elizabeth Johnson Cartmell. He was retired from Union Concrete Company, Ceredo, West Virginia, as a concrete worker. He attended the First Church of God, in Prestonsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Vertrice Rice Cartmell of Prestonsburg; one son, Bert Cartmell Jr., of Prestonsburg; one sister, Rose Kirk of Ashland, five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 4, at 11 a.m., at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, with Charles Heater Jr., officiating.
Burial will be in the Richmond Memorial Cemetery, in Prestonsburg.

Woodrow (Pep) Green
Woodrow (Pep) Green, 77, of Prestonsburg, died Sunday, November 26, 2000, at his residence.
Born on January 26, 1923, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Roe Green and Dolly Robinson Green. He was a retired coal miner and a World War II veteran.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Della Prater Green.
Survivors include one step-daughter, Dorothy Jean Prater; six brothers, Paul David Green of Prestonsburg, Bob Green of Lexington, Carl Green of Warsaw, Indiana, Bill Green of Garrett, Frank Green of Alabama, Glen Green of Wabash, Indiana; one sister, Alice Farrow of Dayton, Ohio; two step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, November 28, at noon, at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with Gary Mitchell officiating.
Burial was in the Fitzpatrick Cemetery, Prestonsburg, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
Military services were conducted by Auxier DAV Chapter 18.
