Clark Roger Singleton, a retired longshoreman, died Thursday of lung cancer at Metropolitan Hospice. He was 68. Mr. Singleton was born in Woodville, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for the past 43 years. He was a deacon and treasurer at Second Morning Star Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Bateast Singleton; four sons, Keetrone Sr., Dewayne, Kenny and Clark Singleton Jr.; a daughter, Kathy Singleton Green; four brothers, Bennie, Warren, Charles and Arthur Singleton; six sisters, Willie Lemon, Irene Wells, Elizabeth Turner, Florence Harris, Sadie Michel and Irma Holt; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Tuesday at noon at Singleton Chapel in Woodville, Miss. Visitation will be Monday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Cooper-Glapion Funeral Home, 2201 Caffin Ave. Burial will be in Sweeney Town Cemetery in Woodville.

JONES, JANE GILLIS

Jane Gillis Jones, a retired teacher and author, died Saturday of complications from diabetes and kidney disease at her home. She was 60. Mrs. Gillis was born in New Orleans and lived in Avondale for 23 years. She attended Riverdale, Ursuline and Immaculata high schools. She was a member of Carrollton Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her husband, Ray Jones; her mother, Nellie E. Gillis; a brother, W.B. Gillis Jr. of Mandeville; and two sisters, Beth Miller of Amite and Martha Stanton. A memorial service will be held today at 1 p.m. at Carrollton Presbyterian Church, South Carrollton and Panola streets, New Orleans. Mothe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

CIOLINO, HENRY JOHN

Henry John Ciolino, a retired high school teacher, died Sunday at Memorial Medical Center. He was 84. Mr. Ciolino was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He graduated from Jesuit High School and received a master's degree in education from Loyola University. Survivors include two sons, John B. and Henry P. Ciolino; a daughter, Jane Ellen Ciolino; four brothers, Sal, Samuel, Felix and Vincent Ciolino; and a grandchild. A Mass was said Wednesday at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. Burial was in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.

O'NEIL, GERTRUDE KRUEBBE

Gertrude Kruebbe O'Neil, a homemaker, died Wednesday at Kenner Regional Medical Center. She was 89. Ms. O'Neil was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include a son, Terry O'Neil; three daughters, Edith Trahan, Elaine Liebel and Audrey Lillis; two brothers, Milton ‘Mickey' and Robert Kruebbe; three sisters, Isabel Boudreaux, Leola Heyman and Lucille Gaspard; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. A Mass will be said Saturday at 11 a.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie. Visitation will be today from 7 to 10 p.m. and Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Garden of Memories.

MONCONDUIT, ELOUISE CHRISTMAS

Elouise Christmas Monconduit, a nursing assistant, died Thursday of respiratory failure at her home. She was 70. Mrs. Monconduit was born in Natchez, Miss., and lived in Avondale for the past 32 years. Survivors include two sons, Troy Monconduit of Atlanta and Albert Monconduit of New Orleans; two daughters, Rosalyn M. Weber and Michelle Monconduit of New Orleans; three brothers, Alphonse Christmas of Natchez, Isaac Christmas of Saginaw, Mich., and Eugene Christmas of New Orleans; four sisters, Alberta Mouton, Mamie Davis, Forrestine Williams of Natchez and Ida Scieneaux of New Orleans; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, 329 S. Jamie Blvd., Avondale. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery in Avondale. Davis Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

BROWN, CONSTANCE KLEINSCHMIDT

Constance Kleinschmidt Brown, a homemaker, died Saturday at her home. She was 77. Mrs. Brown was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for many years. She graduated from John McDonogh High School and attended nursing school at Pensacola Hospital in Florida, where she later worked as a registered nurse. She was a parishioner of St. Angela Merici Catholic Church. She was a docent for the New Orleans Museum of Art for many years. Survivors include her husband, Harwood I. Brown; three daughters, Janice Brown Carbon, Constance Marie Brown and Sherryl Brown Freche; a sister, Claire Kleinschmidt; and three grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at noon at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church, 901 Beverly Garden Drive, Metairie. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

LANDRY, RICHARD D.

Richard D. Landry, a carpenter and painter for Kaiser Aluminum, died Wednesday of cancer at his home. He was 58. Mr. Landry was born in Reserve and lived in Norco for 34 years. He served in the Army. Survivors include his wife, Karen Landry; a son, Troy Landry; a daughter, Holly Landry Hinchman; four brothers, C. F., Ronnie, Bobby and Roy Landry; five sisters, Leatrice Luminais, Mary Gay Catoire, Sylvia Simoneaux, Sybil Montegut and Irene Moore; and a grandchild. A Mass will be said today at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Norco. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery in Reserve. Millet Guidry is in charge of the arrangements.

Ethel Welchley Almerico, owner-manager of Alco, a cleaning business, died Wednesday at Nazareth Inn. She was 92. Mrs. Almerico was born in Pointe a la Hache and lived in Folsom. Survivors include a son, Michael J. Almerico II; a daughter, Jackie Bonie; a brother, Ernest Welchley; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at 2:30 p.m. at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St. Visitation is at noon.

HURTS, JESSIE JAMES

Jessie James Hurts, a Navy veteran, died Tuesday at Lincoln General Hospital of injuries suffered in a car accident. He was 68. Mr. Hurts was a lifelong resident of Evergreen. He attended Bunkie High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a deacon at New Light Baptist Church. He was a past master and 32nd degree Mason. Survivors include his wife, Irene Jones; three sons, Samuel and Nathaniel Hurts, both of New Orleans, and Jessie James Hurts Jr.; three daughters, Lorene and Lakesha Hurts and Sharon Moreauville; his mother, Ellen Homes Hurts; two brothers, Otis and Mac Arthur Hurts; nine sisters, Delores Smith, Constance Player, Dorothy Clayton, Jeraline Corner, Elrene Destint, Beverly Sue Berrington, Ella Gray, Willie Lee Williffe and Bobbie Gladney; and 15 grandchildren. A wake will be Sunday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Amazon Baptist Church in Bunkie. A funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in New Light Baptist Church Cemetery in Bunkie. Lloyd J. Boquet, a plumber, died Thursday at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. He was 83. Mr. Boquet was born in Pointe-aux-Chenes and lived in Folsom for the past 16 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a parishioner of St. John's Catholic Church in Folsom. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Affairs Post No. 07755 in Bourg and the American Legion Post No. 0272 in Montegut. Survivors include his wife, Lucena Naquin Boquet; a daughter, Pat Boquet; three stepsons, Butch, Barry and Carroll Naquin; a stepdaughter, Mercedes Chisholm; two brothers, Paul and Wilfred Boquet; two sisters, Marjorie Neal and Rena Lasseigne; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Pointe-aux-Chenes. Visitation will be Monday from 6 to 10 p.m. at Pointe-aux-Chenes Fire Station. Nena Marie Parrino Sciortino, a homemaker and retired employee of the U.S. government, died Thursday of complications from Alzheimer's disease at Southernland Senior Residence Place in Mandeville. She was 78. Mrs. Sciortino was born in Cheneyville and lived in New Orleans for many years and in Mandeville for the past eight years. She was a parishioner of Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church and later of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Survivors include two sons, Michael Frank and Stephen Joseph Sciortino; a daughter, Stephanie Sciortino Ruli; eight sisters, Mary Cerami, Ann Henderson, Josie Biggs, Mamie Parrino, Lucille Hudson, Genevieve Zaunbrecker, Rose Thorne and Sarah Moran; and five grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at noon at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Metairie Cemetery.

JOHNSTON, MARSHA LYNN

Marsha Lynn Johnston, a homemaker, died Saturday of renal failure at Chalmette Medical Center. She was 48. Ms. Johnston was born in New Orleans, was a former resident of Terrytown and lived in St. Bernard Parish for the past nine months. Survivors include a son, Gerald R. Cook Jr.; and a daughter, Hope Cook Mills; her mother, Verline Jones Plaisance; and her stepfather, James Plaisance. A funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Dunn Funeral Services, 7701 W. St. Bernard Highway in Arabi. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m.

FADEK, MURRAY

Murray Fadek, a retired merchant marine, died Wednesday of undetermined causes at Crescent City Health Care. He was 73. Mr. Fadek was born in Warsaw, Poland, and lived in New Orleans for the past 25 years. Survivors include a son, Timothy Fadek of New York City; two daughters, Rebecca Fadek of New York City and Jennifer Won of Dacuia, Ga.; and two grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at Magee's Funeral Home, 2141 Washington Ave. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park.

BURING, JAKE ‘PAPA JAKE'

Jake Buring, 81, meat firm founder
Jake "Papa Jake" Buring, founder of King Cotton Meat Products of New Orleans and president of Buring Packing Co. of Louisiana, died Tuesday at Metropolitan Hospice. He was 81.
Mr. Buring was born in Memphis, Tenn., and lived in New Orleans for the past 48 years.
King Cotton Meat Products was the first USDA-certified meatpacking company in Louisiana. Buring was a member of the National Grocery Association and the National Meat Packing Association.
He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 28 of Memphis and was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Shriners.
Mr. Buring was active in local philanthropy and was a founding member of the Cancer Crusaders.
He was a supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. He was also a supporter of St. Michael's Special School and the Jewish Community Center. He was a member of Temple Sinai.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Hausman Buring; two sons, Joseph Buring of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Martin Buring; two daughters, Lynda Mahana of Atlanta and Sandra Pulitzer; and 15 grandchildren.
Services will be private. Bultman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
