MADERE, DENISE HAYDEL
November 26, 2002

Denise Haydel Madere, a homemaker, died Sunday at her home. She was 96. Mrs. Madere was born in Vacherie and lived in Reserve for the past 65 years. Survivors include two sons, Bertram and Bryan Madere; a daughter, Frances Keating; a sister, Stella Sutherland of Baton Rouge; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church in Reserve. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Peter cemetery. Millet-Guidry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ROCKHOLD, GLADYS ALFORD
November 22, 2002

Gladys Alford Rockhold, a homemaker, died Wednesday at her home. She was 83. Mrs. Rockhold was born in Clarendon, Va., and lived in Metairie. She was a charter member and past president of Green Acres Homemakers. Survivors include two sons, Thomas Richard Rockhold of Plano, Texas, and John Charles Rockhold; two daughters, Jane Charlotte Haydel and Carol Sue Rockhold; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A graveside service was held Wednesday at Garden of Memories. Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home handled arrangements.

BRUCHIS, JEANETTE SHUSHAN BIENN
November 25, 2002

Jeanette Shushan Bienn Bruchis, former co-owner of Bienn Furniture Store, died Saturday at WillowWood. She was 84. Ms. Bruchis was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She previously was employed by Godchaux's, Sak's Fifth Avenue and Wendy's Hamburgers. She was a member of Congregation Gates of Prayer synagogue. Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Bienn Burk, Janice Bienn and Joan Bruchis Besser; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A graveside service will be held today at 11 a.m. at Gates of Prayer cemetery, 1412 Joseph St. Bultman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

CLARK, EARL JOSEPH 'DON KING'
November 22, 2002

Earl Joseph "Don King" Clark, a retired foreman with St. Charles Grain Elevator, died Nov. 18 of cancer at St. Charles Hospital in Luling. He was 65. Mr. Clark was a lifelong resident of Ama. He was a graduate of Carver High School in Hahnville. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Stewart Clark; two sons, Bendell Clark Sr. of Raceland and Radell Clark of Ama; a daughter, Joycelyn C. Ballard of Ama; his mother, Lista Benarby Guilfore of Ama; a brother, Ernest Patterson Sr.; two sisters, Doris Williams of Luling and Beverly Byrd of Ama; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on River Road in Ama. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Mt. Pilgrim cemetery in Ama. Robottom Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

SEEMANN, DOUGLAS FRANCIS SR.
November 22, 2002

Douglas Francis Seemann Sr., a plant operator, died Wednesday at Ormond Nursing Home. He was 85. Mr. Seemann was a lifelong resident of New Orleans and Jefferson. He worked for Jefferson Parish Department of Water for 39 years. Survivors include two sons, Raymond J. and Douglas F. Seemann Jr.; a sister, Gloria Richardson; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at 2:30 p.m. at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd. at 43rd St., Metairie. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Garden of Memories cemetery.

DAY, WALTER N.
November 22, 2002

Walter N. Day, a retired employee of Shell Oil Co., died Nov. 14 in Norco. He was 96. Mr. Day was born in Chicago and lived in Norco for 60 years. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and the University of Minnesota with a master's degree in chemistry. He was a member of Alpha Chi Sigma professional fraternity. He was a longtime recording secretary of the duck hunting section of the Bonnet Carre Rod and Gun Club and was the Shell Employees Club skeet club president for many years. He was a member of the Louisiana Wildlife Federation, National Wildlife Federation and Ducks Unlimited, and was a life member of the National Rifle Association since 1936. Mr. Day was a strong supporter of The Nature Conservancy and The Audubon Society. He received the Louisiana Governor's Award twice for State Conservationist of the Year and coordinated a statewide program through high schools and other organizations to collect used duck stamps to raise money for Ducks Unlimited programs. Survivors include a son, Ray Day of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; a daughter, Janice Day of New Orleans; and a sister, Winifred Kirk of Tucson, Ariz. A memorial will be held today at 10 a.m. at Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, 2806 W. Airline Highway, LaPlace. Visitation begins at 9 a.m.

TAYLOR, ANDRE JOSHUA
November 22, 2002

Andre Joshua Taylor died Nov. 15 of undetermined causes at West Jefferson Medical Center. He was 2 and lived in Gretna. Survivors include his father, Walter Taylor Jr.; his mother, Martha Shiloh Taylor; a brother, Adrian Taylor; two sisters, Rosheka and Roshonda Taylor; and his grandparents, Ernest and Rose Shiloh and Dolores Taylor. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Murray Henderson Funeral Home, 1209 Teche St., Algiers. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in McDonoghville cemetery in Gretna.

GROS, ELEANORA SERIO
November 25, 2002

Eleanora Serio Gros, a retired pharmacy clerk, died Saturday at St. Francis Villa Assisted Living in River Ridge. She was 89. Ms. Gros was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie. Survivors include a son, Ronald P. Gros. A Mass will be said Tuesday at noon at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Lake Lawn Park.

WILLIAMS, JONAS DONTA ESTABON
November 22, 2002

Jonas Donta Estabon Williams was stillborn Nov. 14 at West Jefferson Medical Center. Survivors include his father, Jonas Williams; his mother, Sybil Ann Thomas; two brothers, Kenney Turner Jr. and Kenneth Turner; a sister, Kawanda Williams; and his grandparents, Hazel Williams and Dorothy Thomas. A funeral will be held Saturday at noon at Calvary Baptist Church, 929 S. Sibley St., Metairie. Burial will be in Belle Grove cemetery in Kenner. Richardson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MONIER, AUGUST JULES
November 25, 2002

August Jules Monier, a self-employed carpenter, died Friday of respiratory failure at Veterans Hospital of Biloxi. He was 90. Mr. Monier was born in New Orleans and lived in Waveland, Miss., for the past 15 years. He was a parishioner of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Clermont Harbor, Miss. He served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War and received the Korean War Ribbon. Survivors include two daughters, Colette Cox of Waveland and Lelia Foxx of Ocala, Fla.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Edmond Fahey Funeral Home, 110 Necaise Ave., Bay St. Louis. Visitation will begin today at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Biloxi National cemetery.

ALCORN, BENNIE RUTH
November 23, 2002

Bennie Ruth Alcorn, a retired teacher, died Tuesday of a heart attack. She was 60. Ms. Alcorn was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She attended McDonogh 35 High School and Dillard University. She worked in the New Orleans school system for more than 30 years. She was a member of the Usher Board, director of Pastor's Aid and a Sunday school teacher at First Agape Baptist Church. Survivors include six brothers, Waldon Alcorn Jr., Roy Alcorn Sr., Wayne Alcorn Sr., Ronald and Rickey Alcorn and Ralph Alcorn Sr.; and four sisters, Janice Washington, Audrey Adams, Cynthia Jasper and Kathy Sanchez. A funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at First Agape Baptist Church, 3219 Thalia St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery. Gaskin-Southall-Gordon & Gordon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

RAMIREZ, JOSE A.
November 25, 2002

Jose A. Ramirez, a retired master carpenter, died Monday of cancer at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. He was 75. Mr. Ramirez was born in Yoro, Honduras, and lived in New Orleans for the past 41 years. He was a member of the Rosacrucian Order. Survivors include his wife, Lucrecia Ramirez, and a stepdaughter, Margarita Ramirez. A private service was held. Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

JAUFRÉ, MARGARET
November 22, 2002

Margaret Jaufré, a retired saleswoman for Maison Blanche department store, died Tuesday at Lakeview Regional Medical Center. She was 94. Mrs. Jaufré was born in Houma and lived in Mandeville for the past seven years. She was a volunteer at Lakeside Hospital in Metairie for 14 years and with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of the Jefferson Community Action Program for nine years. Survivors include a daughter, Joan Wolfe; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. A Mass will be said today at 1 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

BROWN, WILSON H. JR.
November 23, 2002

Wilson H. Brown Jr., a retired insurance salesman, died Friday at East Jefferson General Hospital. He was 76. Mr. Brown was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and lived in Kenner for the past 40 years. He worked as a life insurance salesman for Western Southern Life Insurance Co. for many years. He was a member of Crescent City Baptist Church for 40 years. He was a Coast Guard veteran. Survivors include two sisters, Margot Brown Thompson of Washington and Mary Brown of New York. A funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Blvd., Kenner. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Garden of Memories.

November 25, 2002

Parnell E. St. Lucia, a homemaker, died Thursday of cancer at her home. She was 54. Mrs. St. Lucia was a lifelong resident of Marrero. Survivors include her husband, Stephen J. St. Lucia Jr.; a son, Stephen St. Lucia III; a daughter, Crystal St. Lucia; two sisters, Loretta Rodrigue and Linda Camardelle; and three grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at 11 a.m. at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 West Bank Expressway, Harvey. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park.

KELLY, LEON SR.
November 22, 2002

Leon Kelly Sr., a former employee of Boh Brothers, died Tuesday of congestive heart failure at East Jefferson General Hospital. He was 60. Mr. Kelly was a lifelong resident of Kenner. He was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church and its senior usher board. Survivors include his wife, Munetha Kelly; 10 sons, Darryl Kelly of Baton Rouge, Conzell, Vincent, Keithen, Anthony, James and Detroit Kelly and Parker, Michael and Brandon Burns; three daughters, Chanel Kelly of LaPlace, Gabriel and Angelic Burns, both of New Orleans; and 24 grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 2114 Third St., Kenner. Burial will be in Belgrove cemetery in Kenner. Richardson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

November 23, 2002

Arthur Cook, a retired carpenter, died Nov. 15 of undetermined causes at Northshore Regional Medical Center in Slidell. He was 70. Mr. Cook was born in Reserve and lived in Slidell for the past 10 years. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jones Cook of New Orleans; two sons, Waylon and Joshua Cook, both of New Orleans; three daughters, Terryle Cook of Chicago and Miranda and Ariana Cook, both of New Orleans; two stepsons, John and Christopher Washington of New Orleans; four brothers, Alvin Cook of LaPlace and Oscar, Henry and Elmo Cook, all of Reserve; and three sisters, Marie Stevenson, Veronica Bailey and Goldie Wilkins, all of Reserve. A funeral was held Friday at New Home Missionary Ministries in LaPlace. Burial was in St. Peter cemetery in Reserve. Robottom Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
