Margarita Velez Lugo, a homemaker, died Wednesday at her home. She was 92. Mrs. Lugo was born in Guanica, Puerto Rico, and lived in River Ridge for the past 60 years. She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church. Survivors include her husband, Luis Lugo; a son, Efrain Lugo of Harahan; four daughters, Edna Cash and Edda Gendusa, both of Franklinton, Marta Bender of Harahan and Josephine Walls of LaPlace; three sisters, Dalela Vallela of New York, Adelaida Perez of Woodside, N.J., and Lucinda Velez of Greenville, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 1 p.m. at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd., Metairie. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Garden of Memories cemetery.

FOSTER, GENEVA
November 23, 2002

Geneva Foster, an inspector with a bag manufacturing company, died Thursday at West Jefferson Medical Center. She was 82. Ms. Foster was born in Bogalusa and lived in Bridge City. A funeral will be held today at 1 p.m. at McKneely Funeral Home, 501 Avenue G, Kentwood. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery in Kentwood.

BLANCHARD, ELMA DAIGLE
November 26, 2002

Elma Daigle Blanchard, a homemaker, died Monday at Methodist Hospital. She was 80. Mrs. Blanchard was born in Napoleonville and lived in Chalmette for the past 46 years. Survivors include three sons, Mike, Curtis and Steve Blanchard; two daughters, Diane Cunningham and Mary Ann Lewark; three brothers, Jake, Louis and V.A. Daigle; two sisters, Josephine Duval and Mary Hebert; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 1 p.m. at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St. in Chalmette. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.

PHILLIP, RAYMOND JR.
November 22, 2002

Raymond Phillip Jr., a porter at a Chevron gas station, died Monday of undetermined causes in the 2800 block of Painters Street. He was 65. Mr. Phillip was born in Morganza and lived in New Orleans. Survivors include an adopted son, Troy Phillip; an adopted daughter, Penny Phillip; three brothers, Alvin, Joseph and David Phillip; and a sister, Lucille Hebert. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 1716 N. Claiborne Ave. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park.

JETT, JOHN ALFRED
November 23, 2002

John Alfred Jett, a security guard, died Tuesday of cancer at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. He was 65. Mr. Jett was born in New Orleans and lived in Ponchatoula for many years. Survivors include his wife, Willie Mae Foster Jett; a son, John Alfred Jett Jr.; a daughter, Vicki Lynn Lewis; three brothers, Albert E., Charles D. and Ronald T. Jett; and four sisters, Mary Preston, Edith Smith, Willie Mae Crenshaw and Lydia Ann Jett. A funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. at Taskers Memorial AME Zion Church, 220 W. Ash St., Ponchatoula. Burial will be in Ponchatoula cemetery. N.A. James Funeral Home handled arrangements.

CORLEY, THOMAS CLEVELAND II
November 26, 2002

Thomas Cleveland Corley II, a retired Pearl River police officer, died Sunday of heart failure at Lacombe Nursing Home. He was 74. Mr. Corley was born in Laurel, Miss., and was a longtime resident of Pearl River. He was a member of First Pentecostal Church in Slidell and the Slidell Fraternal Order of Police. Survivors include a son, Thomas C. Corley III; two daughters, Doris Robertson and Mary Verdun; two brothers, Lloyd and Howard Corley; a sister, Dorothy Hester; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home, 67525 Louisiana 41 in Pearl River. Visitation will be held tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Hickory Memorial Gardens in Pearl River.

REDD, ULYSSES 'HICKEY'
November 22, 2002

Ulysses "Hickey" Redd, a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service, died Monday at Baton Rouge General Hospital. He was 88. Mr. Redd was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge. He was a member of the Negro Baseball League, the Baseball Hall of Fame and American Legion Post No. 505. Survivors include his wife, Myrtle A. Redd; two daughters, Janice L. Clemons and Karen Redd-Castle of New Orleans; a son, Thomas L. Clemons; a brother, Robert Hardnet of Huntsville, Ala.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion First Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Halls Mortuary of Baton Rouge is in charge of the arrangements.

WASHINGTON, MARY HOLMES
November 27, 2002

Mary Holmes Washington, a homemaker, died Saturday at Canon Hospice. She was 84. Mrs. Washington was born in White Castle and lived in New Orleans for the past 40 years. She was a former agricultural worker in White Castle. She was a member of St. Mary's Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Elijah Washington Sr.; six sons, Earnest Washington of Los Angeles, Percy, Lloyd and Lionell Washington, Herbert Washington Sr. and Elijah Washington Jr.; six daughters, Margaret Washington of Los Angeles, Ethel Mae Palmer of Baltimore, Md., Lucille Washington, Callie Mae Hilliard, Lillie Bea England and Olivia P. Stafford; 26 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Charbonnet-Labat Funeral Home, 1615 St. Philip St. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Park.

November 22, 2002

Roger Kay Scott, a process and brine technician at Occidental Chemical in Taft, died Nov. 13 of heart failure at St. Charles Hospital in Luling. He was 53. Mr. Scott was born in Norco and lived in Luling. Survivors include his wife, Darlene Hill Scott; a son, Roger Scott Jr. of St. Rose; two daughters, Tamera Scott Brown of Slidell and Regina Scott of Luling; his mother, Sadie Mae Bailey Scott of Norco; two brothers, Harry Scott Jr. of Norco and Tyronne Scott of Norco; four sisters, Linda Martin and Beverly Scott of Norco, Betty Joe Bailey of Houston and Gwendolyn Scott of Kenner; and seven grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 145701 Old Spanish Trail in Paradis. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Robottom Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

MAXENT-CLAYTON, DOROTHY 'GEORGIE'
November 23, 2002

Dorothy "Georgie" Maxent-Clayton, a retired food technician for the Marriott Hotel, died Nov. 14 of complications from surgery at Memorial Medical Center. She was 78. Mrs. Maxent-Clayton was born in Grosse Tete and lived in LaPlace and New Orleans for many years. Survivors include three sons, Larry, Willie and Eugene Maxent; two daughters, Theresa M. Fisher and Josephine M. Francis; a sister, Charlotte Ann Anderson; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be at Providence Memorial Park.

BEAN, IRMANESE
November 28, 2002

Irmanese Bean, a homemaker, died Sunday of undetermined causes at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. She was 61. Mrs. Bean was born in New Orleans and lived in Covington for the past 28 years. She was a member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church and a former aide at Affordable Angels Care Center. Survivors include three sons, Myron Benn of San Diego and Eugene and Edward Benn; two daughters, Rhonda Benn and Vivian Neely; two sisters, Lillian and Juanita Williams; and two grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 8 p.m. at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in Covington. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Dismissal will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Pinecrest cemetery. Richardson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

SUMNER, ELLIOT THOMAS
November 22, 2002

Elliot Thomas Sumner, a retired credit manager, died Saturday at his home. He was 86. Mr. Sumner was born in New Orleans and lived in Terrebonne Parish. He was a parishioner of St. Ann Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Theresa I. Sumner; two daughters, Janelle Catherine Sumner Ellian and Melissa Santa Sumner Authement; and a grandchild. Services will be private. Samart Funeral Home in Houma is in charge of arrangements.

November 28, 2002

Will Newman, a retired laborer, died Nov. 18 at Memorial Medical Center. He was 81. Mr. Newman was born in Clinton and lived in New Orleans for the past 40 years. He was an Army veteran. He was a former employee of Southern Scrap Material Co. Survivors include his companion, Georgiana Brady; a brother, Andrew Newman; a sister, Josephine Thomas; and seven grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at Littlejohn's Funeral Home, 2163 Aubry St. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be private.

EUGENE, ESTABON Z. JR.
November 23, 2002

Estabon Z. Eugene Jr., a chief watch officer and small computer specialist, died Nov. 15 at Prince George's Hospital Center in Cheverly, Md., of a gunshot wound. He was 24. Mr. Eugene was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He attended Walter L. Cohen High School. He was a former employee of Ebony Square and Mo's Grocery. He was a sergeant in the Marine Corps for six years. He was a member of First Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church and Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church. He was also a member of Creole Wild West Indian Tribe and the Golden Arrows Indian Tribe. Survivors include his wife, Nakeisha Rhea Eugene; a daughter, Tamia T. Eugene; a stepdaughter, Liric R. Jackson; his father, Estabon Z. Eugene Sr.; his mother, Linda King; his stepfather, David King; his stepmother, Wanda J. Eugene; three brothers, Anthony and Quintin Eugene and Brandon Calendar; and five sisters, Sharrell and Estabonique Eugene, LaTasha Calendar and LaToya and Nakia Reeder. A memorial service will be held today at 1 p.m. at Jesus Never Fails Christian Center, 3128 S. Broad St. Burial will be private. Gertrude Geddes Willis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

WAGUESPACK, PAMELA ANN
November 22, 2002

Pamela Ann Waguespack, a hairdresser, died Nov. 14 of liver failure at Kenner Regional Medical Center. She was 35. Mrs. Waguespack was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 30 years. Survivors include her husband, Joseph Waguespack; a son, Stephen Phillips; a daughter, Kristie Morris; her father, Charles Phillips; and her mother, Thelma Mitchell Phillips. A memorial service is Saturday at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Kenner, 1400 Williams Blvd.

November 28, 2002

Raul Salomon Nazar, a retired lawyer, died Nov. 19 of heart complications at Charity Hospital. He was 69. Mr. Nazar was born in Honduras and lived in Kenner for the past year. Survivors include his companion, Orbelinda Nunez; a son, Raul A. Nazar of Woodbridge, Va.; two daughters, Olga N. Nunez and Belinda Nazar; a brother, Jose S. Nazar of Honduras; a sister, Sara Nazar; and five grandchildren. A Mass will be said Friday at 11 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Lake Lawn Mausoleum.

Earl Joseph "Don King" Clark, a retired foreman with St. Charles Grain Elevator, died Nov. 18 of cancer at St. Charles Hospital in Luling. He was 65. Mr. Clark was a lifelong resident of Ama. He was a graduate of Carver High School in Hahnville. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Stewart Clark; two sons, Rendell Clark Sr. of Raceland and Rudell Clark; a daughter, Joycelyn C. Ballard; his mother, Lista Benarby Guilfore; a brother, Ernest Patterson Sr. of New Orleans; two sisters, Doris Williams of Luling and Beverly Byrd; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church on River Road in Ama. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Pilgrim cemetery in Ama.
