STARNES, LINDA LeNORMAND
November 23, 2002

Linda LeNormand Starnes, an office manager for Hearing Health Care, died Saturday of cancer at her home. She was 59. Mrs. Starnes was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past seven years. She graduated from St. Mary's Dominican High School and attended Southeastern Louisiana University. She was a founding member of Adoptive Couples Together. Survivors include two sons, Robert and Christopher Starnes; two daughters, Ashley and Amy Starnes; and a sister, Carole Childress. A funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. at Bultman Funeral Home, 3338 St. Charles Ave. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Metairie cemetery.

BAUER, WALDA ROTHERHAM
November 23, 2002

Walda Rotherham Bauer, a retired cosmetologist, died Thursday at Slidell Memorial Hospital. She was 82. Mrs. Bauer was born in New Orleans and lived in Slidell for the past seven years. Survivors include a son, Earl Anthony Bauer Jr.; a daughter, Walda B. Cheadle; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at noon at Schoen Funeral Home of Slidell, 3808 Pontchartrain Drive. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Roch cemetery No. 2 in New Orleans.

PROUT, MARK ANTHONY JR.
November 23, 2002

Mark Anthony Prout Jr., an employee of French's Welding, died Wednesday of injuries suffered in a car accident in Boothville. He was 22. Mr. Prout was born in Moss Point, Miss., and lived in Boothville. Survivors include a daughter, Angel Savoie; his father, Mark Anthony Prout Sr.; his mother, Deanna Marshall Prout; two brothers, Marlon and Malik Prout; a sister, Mallenia Prout; his grandfather, Darril Prout Sr.; and his grandmother, Florence Prout. A funeral will be held today at noon at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Boothville. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Our Lady of Good Harbor cemetery in Buras. D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

JEFFERSON, DARROW 'PEANUT' BERNARD
November 28, 2002

Darrow "Peanut" Bernard Jefferson, a laborer, died Nov. 22 of a gunshot wound at Jackson Avenue and Constance Street. He was 21. Mr. Jefferson was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He attended Walter L. Cohen Senior High School. Survivors include his companion, Keva Massey; a daughter, Darriyan Massey; his father, Darrell Mars; his mother, Gloria Jean Jefferson; his stepfather, Herbert Robinson; two brothers, Derrick and Antione Jefferson; and his grandmothers, Ethel Robinson and Frances McShane. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Majestic Mortuary, 1833 Oretha C. Haley Blvd. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

YOUNG, ANTHONY 'JOE SHORTY'
November 22, 2002

Anthony "Joe Shorty" Young, a laborer, died Tuesday of a gunshot wound in the 2200 block of St. Thomas Street. He was 21. Mr. Young was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include his mother, Lorraine Young; his adopted mother, Ora Lee Williams; a brother, John Davis; two sisters, Tiffany Young and Melinda Davis; two foster brothers, Charles and Bradley Williams; a foster sister, Paula Carter; and his grandmother, Louvella Young. A funeral is Saturday at 8:45 a.m. at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave. Visitation begins at 8 a.m. Burial is in Resthaven Memorial Park.

DEE, IZEL JAMAL
November 28, 2002

Izel Jamal Dee, a student and office manager for The Home Depot in Atlanta, died Nov. 23 of a gunshot wound in New Orleans. He was 22. Mr. Dee was born in Edgard and lived in Atlanta for the past two years. He graduated from West St. John High School in 1998 and attended the University of New Orleans. He was enrolled at the Medical College of Georgia's School of Nursing. Survivors include his parents, David Dee and Joycelyn Borne Thomas; his stepfather, James Thomas; four sisters, Chavon LaBranch, Becenda Lockett, Janisha Lee and Heather Edwards; four brothers, Billy Wilson, David Dee, Joseph Dee III and Devin LaBranch; three stepsisters, Ebony and LeJai Thomas and Lakesha Brimmer; a stepbrother, Darrien Thomas; and his grandparents, Geraldine Borne and Joseph and Mary Dee. A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Edgard. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Baloney Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

PERIQUE, JOSEPH 'LIL JOE' NELSON IV
November 21, 2002

Joseph "Lil Joe" Nelson Perique IV, a former employee of Hotel Monaco, died Saturday of a gunshot wound in the 3700 block of Gibson Street. He was 21. Mr. Perique was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include a daughter, Amaya Joekiya Perique; his fiancée, Malkia L. Lacey; his father, Joseph Nelson Perique III; his mother, Patricia Ann Johnson; his stepmother, Anita S. Perique; two brothers, Lance and Jeremy Perique; six sisters, Joenica Johnson, Miranda Baptiste, Jovan and Joenaé Perique and Jonaya and Jokia Harvey; and his grandmother, Miriam D. Perique. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 5276 Bullard Ave. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Mausoleum. Charbonnet-Labat Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ROBINSON, ELNORA M.
November 23, 2002

Elnora M. Robinson, a homemaker, died Nov. 16 of complications from a stroke at Jefferson Health Care Center. She was 73. Ms. Robinson was born in Woodville, Miss., and lived in Westwego for the past 25 years. She was a graduate of Wilson Colony High School in Woodville. She was a member of Nazareth Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher Board. Survivors include a son, Curtis Williams; a daughter, Gladys Gayle Clark of Harvey; a brother, Sylvester Williams; three sisters, Hattie Jones, Alma Williams and Lucy Bell Brown, all of Woodville; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A funeral will be held today at 10 a.m. at Nazareth Baptist Church, 9108 Pritchard Place, New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Restlawn Park in Avondale. Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home handled arrangements.

KUCHLER, SIDNEY JESSEY SR.
November 20, 2002

Sidney Jessey Kuchler Sr., a retired self-employed carpenter, died Monday at his home. He was 81. Mr. Kuchler was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 52 years. He worked as a carpenter for 35 years. He was a parishioner of St. Angela Merici Catholic Church and a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Stadler Kuchler; three sons, Sidney J. Kuchler Jr., Michael H. Kuchler and Barry Kuchler Sr.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A Mass will be said today at 11 a.m. at Lamana-Panno-Fallo Funeral Home, 1717 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Restlawn Park in Avondale.

PRICE, ISABELLE 'GOG'
November 22, 2002

Isabelle "Gog" Price, a retired homemaker, died Nov. 14 at West Jefferson Medical Center. She was 78. Mrs. Price was born in Algiers and lived in New Orleans all her life. She was a member of Greater Mount Carmel Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Louis and Clarence Price; two daughters, Gloria B. Gray and Sylvia Williams; two brothers, Warren and Alexander Washington Jr., both of Cutoff; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. A wake and funeral will be held today at 7:30 p.m. at Greater Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 3721 N. Claiborne Ave. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Dismissal will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Eureka cemetery in Algiers. Majestic Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Carlo "Pete" Maltese Jr., a retired security agent for Amax Nickel Refinery, died Sundayof congestive heart failure at his home. He was 78. Mr. Maltese was born in New Orleans and was a lifelong resident of Plaquemines Parish. Survivors include his wife, Audrey Chauvet Maltese; three sons, Carlo J. Maltese III, Rickey L. Maltese Sr. and Wayne M. Maltese; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Vickers, Verrette and Dornan Funeral Home, 3027 Jean Lafitte Parkway in Chalmette. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.

RUFIN, ELVINA LOEFFEL
November 22, 2002

Elvina Loeffel Rufin, a homemaker, died Monday at Specialty Hospital. She was 88. Mrs. Rufin was born in Claxton, Ga., and lived in New Orleans for many years. Survivors include her son, Denis E. Rufin III; a daughter, Virginia Dare Rufin; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A funeral will be held Saturday at noon at Bultman Funeral Home, 3338 St. Charles Ave. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Rayne Memorial United Methodist Church. Bultman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Guillermina Perry, a retired seamstress, died Thursday at Kindred Hospital. She was 85. Mrs. Perry was born in Havana and lived in New Orleans for the past 16 years. She also worked at the Radisson Hotel. Survivors include a son, Lintion V. Oliver; a sister, Florence Mercel; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Wednesday at 9 a.m. at Tilly's Funeral Home, 2831 St. Claude Ave. Visitation will be at 8 a.m. Burial will be in St. Roch cemetery.

SPENCER, EUGENE MELVIN
November 22, 2002

Eugene Melvin Spencer, a retired electronics repairman, died Tuesday at Hancock Medical Center in Bay St. Louis, Miss. He was 79. Mr. Spencer was born in Jennings and was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was an Air Force veteran. Survivors include a sister, Virginia Mary Deeters Brown. A Mass will be said today at 1:30 p.m. at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home Chapel, 5101 Westbank Expressway. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Hook and Ladder cemetery in Gretna.

MARTIN, LILLIAN 'TOOT' VERDIN
November 20, 2002

Lillian "Toot" Verdin Martin, a homemaker, died Sunday at her home. She was 93. Ms. Martin was born in Periot and lived in Lafitte for the past 87 years. She was employed at Mitch Martin's Welcome Inn for 57 years. She was a member of St. Pius X Altar Society. Survivors include three sons, Mitchell J. "Mitch" Martin, Andrew A. Martin and Clyde V. Martin; three daughters, Geraldine M. Palisi, Stella M. Guidry and Veronica "Bonnie" M. Hebert; two brothers, Adolph and Sam Verdin; a sister, Lydia Martin; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at 11 a.m. at Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Pius cemetery in Crown Point.

ROCKHOLD, RAY EDWARD
November 19, 2002

Ray Edward Rockhold, a retired special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, died Monday of complications from a brain tumor at his home. He was 89. Mr. Rockhold was born in Ekalaka, Mont., and lived in Metairie for the past 46 years. He graduated from Columbia College Law School in Washington, D.C. His wife, Gladys Jane Alford Rockhold, survived him for 47 hours. Survivors include two sons, Thomas Richard Rockhold of Plano, Texas, and John Charles Rockhold; two daughters, Jane Charlotte Haydel and Carol Sue Rockhold; a brother, Robert Gordon Rockhold of Ramona, Calif.; a sister, Bernice Dorr of San Jose, Calif.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A graveside service was held Wednesday at Garden of Memories. Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home handled arrangements.
