Gladys Bunker Bridges '28, May 29, 1999, in Bangor, Maine, at 94. She taught school in the towns of Brooks, Lincoln and Bangor, where she served for 25 years. Predeceased by her husband and brother, she is survived by two cousins.
Cornelia Adair Cole '28, February 13, 1999, in Waterville, Maine, at 92. A teacher for several years at Winslow High School and a member of the Colby Alumni Council, she was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence D. Cole '30. She is survived by a daughter, Virginia Cole Henkle '65, a son Lawrence D. Cole Jr., two grandchildren and a great grandson.
Margaret Davis Farnham '28, April 18, 1999, in Hampden, Maine, at 91. She taught Latin at North Anson Academy and later taught at Husson College in Bangor, Maine. She served Colby as class agent, on the Alumni Council and on the Admissions Committee, and she and her late husband, Roderick Farnham '31, both were awarded Colby Bricks. The Farnham Writers' Center was named in their honor. Survivors include her children, Alden Sprague '53, Pat Farnham Russell '62, Jane Farnham Rabeni '66 and Barbara Briggs, and her three grandchildren, Jeffrey Russell '87, Timothy Farnham '91 and Margaret Russell Ewalt '92.
Arthur B. Levine '28, January 20, 1999, in Palm Beach, Fla., at 92. He graduated from Harvard Law School and owned his own general practice in Waterville, Maine. He also had a successful career in brokering securities. He is survived by two sons, Robert and Steven Levine, a brother and two grandchildren.
Dorothy E. Deeth '29, March 23, 1999, in Santa Rosa, Calif., at 90. She earned her nursing degree at the University of Chicago and held several pediatric nursing positions before becoming director of nurses at St. Francis Hospital in California. The College awarded her an honorary master of science degree in 1955.
Ruth Plaisted Robinson '29, April 13, 1999, in Farmington, Maine, at 91. A homemaker, she was a long-time member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Boston, Mass. She is survived by her son, Ronald Robinson, four sisters, a brother and many nieces and nephews.
Allan J. Stinchfield '29, June 17, 1999, in Gorham, Maine, at 93. After serving in World War II in the Philippines he returned to Maine as chief orthopaedic surgeon at Togus Veterans Hospital and was on the staffs of Augusta General Hospital, Gardiner General Hospital and Sisters and Thayer hospitals in Waterville. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruth Hutchins Stinchfield '28, two daughters, two nieces, three granddaughters, a grandson and three great-granddaughters.
Mabel Dolliff Craig '30, June 5, 1999, in Claremont, Calif., at 91. She was a director of religious education in the Congregational Church in West Roxbury, Mass. After her marriage to the Rev. Andrew Craig, she served with him in churches in Maine, Massachusetts and Colorado and was everywhere a community leader. Her husband of 65 years survives her.
Elizabeth Bottomley Davis '30, February 1, 1999, in Nashua, N.H., at 90. A teacher before and after raising a family, she retired in 1974. She was predeceased by her husband, Reed W. Davis, and is survived by three children, 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Verna Green Taylor '30, October 17, 1998, in Scarborough, Maine, at 90. She taught in several schools before becoming assistant librarian at Thornton Academy. She was an active member of the United Baptist Church of Saco for many years. Surviving are a niece, Athena Keller, and several great-nephews and great-nieces.
