Sandra Jean Shaw '66, June 26, 1999, in Yarmouth, Maine, at 54. She began her journalism career at Newsweek magazine and after moving to Maine in 1970 was a reporter for many local newspapers, including the Portland Press Herald, Maine Times and Lewiston Sun Journal. Survivors include her husband, John C. Orestis, her daughter and her sister.
Stuart M. Rosenfeld '69, January 21, 1999, in Madras, India, at 50. He was a professor of chemistry at Smith College and the author of many articles and books on organic chemistry. He leaves his wife, Nalini Bhushan, a son, his mother, a brother, a sister and many relatives in India.
Kristen Capers Bailey '72, June 26, 1999, in Belmont, N.H., at 48. She was a grade 7-8 English teacher in Belmont. She leaves her husband, Thomas J. Bailey '73, two sons, her mother, her brother, Robert S. Capers '71, and her sister, Nancy Capers Mellen '72.
Robert G. Campbell '76, March 12, 1999, in Cornelius, N.C., at 45. He was a Boeing 727 pilot for U.S. Airways and an instructor of other pilots. Survivors include his wife, Vicki, his parents, his brother, two sisters and several nieces.
Scott L. Croll '86, May 2, 1999, near Juneau, Alaska, at 34. Raised in national parks, he worked for the National Park Service in several parks around the country. He was part of a coastal mapping team at Glacier Bay National Park when his plane crashed. He is survived by his parents, Stuart and Ellen Croll, his brother, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Kenneth W. Bergen, L.H.D '87, May 11, 1999, in Lincoln, Mass., at 87. He was an expert on estate planning and tax law and a founder of the Boston Tax Forum.
David S. Carr '33, Feb. 11, 1997, in Bradenton, Fla., at 85. He earned a law degree from Boston University, served in the Navy during World War II and was a director and sales manager for National Drug Co. in Philadelphia for 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Marge, a daughter, a son, two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
Clifford O.T. Wieden '23, March 3, 1997, in Presque Isle, Maine, at 94. He became president of Aroostook State Normal School in 1952 and guided the school to its current position as the University of Maine at Presque Isle. He was awarded numerous honors for community service throughout his professional career. Survivors include his son, Clifford O.T. Wieden Jr., and his daughter, Carolyn Carey, a brother, 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Arline Mann Peakes, Nov. 28, 1995, in Gorham, Maine, at 89. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate, she was a schoolteacher in Strong, Mexico, Rumford, Brewer and Bangor, Maine. She was a member of several teachers organizations and served a variety of local boards and associations. Predeceased by her husband, Lawrence A. Peakes '28, she is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Mary Thomas, a son, David Peakes, her sister, Melva Mann Farnum '23, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
G. Hersom Lambert '30, Dec. 27, 1996, in Modesto, Calif., at 91. Following service in World War II, he was a medical officer for a company in China. Later he served for 28 years as chief radiologist at Gould Medical Group and Downy Park Group in Modesto. He is survived by a son, Ronald Lambert, a daughter, Mrs. Wayne Healey, a brother and sister, four granddaughters and 10 great-grandchildren.
Ernest J. Theberge '30, Feb. 15, 1997, in North Andover, Mass., at 91. From 1936 to 1963 he owned and operated Theberge Keystone Coal and Oil Company in Lawrence, Mass. He also worked for a real estate business and as a teacher for the Tarbox School in Lawrence. He is survived by two sons, Paul and John Theberge, and a daughter, Nancy Theberge.
