Camilla Jaquette

Camilla Jean Jaquette of Olivet, age 85, died Saturday, July 4, 2009. She was born on Feb. 6, 1924 to Margaret and Cecil Hayter in Reed City, Mich.

Camilla had six siblings, Margie Ormsbee, Cecil Hayter, Jr., James Hayter and Richard Hayter all deceased. Juanita (Neil) Crampton of Birch Run and Russell Hayter of Westminster, Colo. survive.

Camilla is also survived by her two children, Tom (Susan) Jaquette of Olivet and Susette (Dave Steinhauser) Jaquette of Ann Arbor and her grandchildren, Jack, Lacey, Sam and Jenny May Jaquette and Samantha, Helen and Grant Steinhauser.

Camilla lived all her life in the Eaton County Area. She graduated from Olivet High School in 1942 and married Arthur Jaquette in 1944. Camilla and Arthur resided on their farm in Walton Township and were married for 52 years before his death in 1996. Camilla delighted in bringing a smile to people’s face by sharing her free spirited and adventurous tales. Kindness was her middle name and “Character” was her surname. She was a woman of many talents from repairing an antique lamp to writing poetry to gardening. She was a hobby bowler, card player, antique enthusiast and flea market socialite. She was a friend to all people no matter their lot in life. She was not a complainer and was thankful for what she had and not for what she didn’t have. Even though she experienced several hardships such as her memory loss, her glass was always half full. Her family and friends will miss Camilla’s positive attitude and jovial personality.

Memorial services for Camilla will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at the Olivet Congregational Church in Olivet, with Rev. Jack Brown officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1 p.m. until time of services at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Oak Chest, P.O. Box 194, Olivet, MI 49076. Arrangements were made by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte.

Donna Jane

Donna Rose Jane, of South Bend, Ind., went to be with her Lord, Dec. 18, 2009 at Hospice House, South Bend. She was born in Eaton Rapids Township Nov. 7, 1927 to O. Glenn Clifford and Mildred Marie (Chase) Clifford.

She grew up in Charlotte and enjoyed playing the saxophone in the band. She married Bertram (Bert) Jane in 1948 after he completed his military service in the United States Navy. They moved to South Bend in 1948 where they lived most of the rest of their married life. She was a member of the First Brethren Church of South Bend for many years and served in many of the church’s ministries. She encouraged people to pursue more education after high school and set the example by returning to school to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. She became an LPN in 1970. After that she worked in hospitals in Ft. Wayne, Bloomington and South Bend. Even after she stopped working, she used her nursing skills to help others that needed care.

Donna was also a talented seamstress. She used her talents to make clothes for family and friends. She loved to read and became a member of Friends of the Library.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Bert Jane and their infant son.

Donna is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Jeff) Barnett of Clayton, Ind.; granddaughter, Amelia Rose (Luke) Kanuchok of Avondale, Ariz.; great grandsons, Joshua and Ethan Kanuchok and a sister, L. Jean Limmer of Charlotte. She also leaves behind many life-long friends and family members.

A memorial service was held Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010 in the First Brethren Church, South Bend. Burial will take place in the spring at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Jack Louis Jardot Sr.

Jack Louis Jardot Dr., age 73 of Eaton Rapids was called home to the Lord on Thursday, June 25, 2009. Born October 1, 1935 in Eaton Rapids the son of John Sr. and Fern Jardot. Jack retired from the City of Eaton Rapids. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marianna; brother, John Jr.; sisters, June and parents, John Sr. and Fern Jardot.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary; daughters, Marlena, Tana, Lori; sons, Jack Jr., Aaron, Harvey and Chip; 11 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.

Memorial services for Jack will be at a later date. Arrangements are through the Skinner Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.

Janet Fay Jecks

Janet Fay Jecks of Eaton Rapids, age 53 died Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at her home following a terminal illness. Born March 30, 1955 in Columbus, Ohio, the oldest of 5 children born to Ersel and Hazel Dean (Stanley) Scott. Janet was a Springport High School graduate, class of 1974.
She worked as a Caregiver at Maplewood A.F.C. in Eaton Rapids, retiring in 2008 for health reasons. A member of the Eaton Rapids Church of the Nazarene and a former Boy Scout Volunteer. Preceding her in death was a brother, Dwayne David Scott in 1988.

She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Randall Jecks of Eaton Rapids; 2 sons, Randall W. Jecks II and Scott Jecks both of Eaton Rapids; parents, Ersel and Hazel Scott of Springport; 3 siblings, Mike (Tina) Scott of Alanson, MI, Judy Ann (Lawrence) Noren of Springport and Troy Lee (Heather) Scott of Parma; 7 nieces and nephews and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 14, 2009 from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. Dallas McFarland, officiating. Burial followed in the Munger Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to either Eaton Community Hospice or the Sparrow Visiting Nurse and Home Hospice in memory of Janet F. Jecks. Florence Jeltema

Florence Marian Jeltema, 86, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009. Mrs. Jeltema was born Oct. 31, 1922, the daughter of Herman and Marie (Petersen) Hansen.

Mrs. Jeltema was a grocery store clerk until her retirement in 1983. Florence enjoyed crocheting, making numerous baby blankets for her family and friends. She was an avid reader of Danielle Steele novels.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1981.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan Johnson of Gurnee, IL, Sally Canko of Des Plaines, IL and Laurie (Ron) Mendala of St. Charles, IL; son, Steven (Sally) Jeltema of Charlotte; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Friday, Jan. 30, 2009 at Fairplains Cemetery in Grand Rapids with Rev. Duane Royston officiating.

Betty Johnson

Betty J. Johnson, 82, of Charlotte, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, March 14, 2009. Betty was born Jan. 17, 1927 in Onekama, Mich., the daughter of Julius and Emma (Peterson) Henry. She was a level-headed individual who loved her home, and to have fun with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jack; daughter, Linda Ives of El Cajon, Calif.; son, Jack Johnson, Jr. of Lakeside, Calif.; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Plowman.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Darren Ives; five brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Pastor John Bailey officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.

Ingrid Johnson

Ingrid (Stein) Johnson, 69, of Charlotte, died Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Sparrow Hospital after an extended illness. Ingrid was born May 25, 1940 in Solingen, Germany to parents Inge’ Ermertz and Johannes Stein.

Surviving are: her husband of 52 years, Edward “Ted” Johnson; son, Michael Johnson of Charlotte; three daughters, Deborah Kufta of Ann Arbor, Rebecca (Michael) Curtis of Charlotte and Dana Keusch of Charlotte; 13 grandchildren; one great granddaughter; brother, Stephen (Amy) Arneric of Indianapolis, Ind. and two nieces, Katarina and Elizabeth Arneric.

Ingrid loved people, afternoon luncheons with friends and her dog, Misha. Along with her strong dedication to family and friends, she delivered soup and fresh baked cookies to the Siren Shelter, Helping Hands, and Hospice, earning her the “Cookie Lady” nickname. Her renewed faith with the Catholic Church brought her much joy and she was happily dedicated to driving other members to church who needed a ride.

Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass was held Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Francis Mossholder officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Siren/Eaton Shelter, Helping Hands, Eaton Community Hospice or St. Mary Catholic Church. Arrangements were made by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home.

James “Marlin” Johnson

James “Marlin Johnson passed away Saturday, July 25, 2009 comfortably at Eaton Community Hospice in Charlotte at the age of 70. He was born Jan. 1, 1939 in Greenfield, Tenn. to James and Annie Mae (Trosper) Johnson.

Marlin retired from Dan Henry Distributors where he started out as a driver and moved to warehouse supervisor. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and being outdoors. He is now reunited once again with the love of his life, and late wife, Joan (Berryhill) Johnson. Marlin was a loving father and grandfather who will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

Surviving are his children, Terri (Brian) Stevenson of Eaton Rapids, Cherri (Brad) Milligan of Parma, Jimmy Johnson of Eaton Rapids; grandchildren, Kyle Stevenson, Lindsay Stevenson, Bradley Milligan, Jayme Milligan, Chelsie Milligan, Brandon Johnson, Brett Johnson; sisters, Phyllis (Jim) Davidson of Eaton Rapids, Judy Page of Lansing; brother, Herb Johnson of Charlotte; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Marlin were held Wednesday, July 29, 2009 from the Skinner Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Taylor officiating.

Edwin Jones

Edwin G. Jones, 84, of Charlotte, died Monday, June 8, 2009. Mr. Jones was born March, 12 1925 in Caddo, Texas, the son of Richard and Lela (Young) Jones.

Mr. Jones served in the Marines during WWII. Following his discharge from the Marines, he joined the U.S. Army where he served until his retirement in 1966. After moving to the Charlotte area, Ed went to work at Oldsmobile beginning in the warehouse and retiring from the maintenance department in 1987. Mr. Jones was a past member of the Charlotte VFW Post 2406 and the American Legion Post 42. Above all else he was an avid Tiger fan and rarely missed a ballgame on TV. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Jones II; and a sister, Cletha Clayton. He is survived by his son, Mike (Pamela) Jones of Maryland; two grandchildren, Carson and Faith Jones, and a brother, Herman Jones of Midland Texas.

Family and friends are invited to a Family Affirmation Service to be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday, June 13, 2009 from 10-11 a.m. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to The Eaton County Medical Care Facility.

Laurel Jones

Laurel A. “Sweetsie: Jones, 61, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009 at her residence after a short illness. Laurel was born May 11, 1948 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of John and Nina (Chandler) Glover and had been a Charlotte resident since 1969 coming from Delta Mills. She was a 1966 graduate of Grand Ledge High School, served as a Volunteer at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, attended the First Baptist Church of Charlotte and was a retired secretary for the Charlotte Public Schools with 30 years of service. Surviving is: her husband of 42 years, Don Jones; daughter, Deborah (Bradford) Rinckey of Eagle River, Alaska; son, Dean Jones of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Blake, Benjamin and Quinn Rinckey and her brother, Robert Hakes of Florida.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 21, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of Charlotte with Pastor Robin Crouch officiating. Interment was in the Benton Township Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the H.G.B. Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or the Church or Charity of One’s choice.

Wesley “Gene” Jones

Wesley “Gene” Jones, age 61, of Pinckney and formerly of Eaton Rapids, died peacefully at home with his son and daughter by his side on July 29, 2009.

Wesley “Gene” will be greatly missed by his son Wes Jones and daughter Stacy Stinson, as well as their spouses and children. Mourning the loss of their dearly loved brother Gene are Terry Jones and Bill Jones, along with their spouses and children.

A memorial service was held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Skinner’s Funeral Home, 315 S. River St. in Eaton Rapids. www.skinnerfuneralhome.com.

Estella J. Jordan

Estella J. Jordan, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Eaton Rapids, passed away at age 66 on May 1, 2009. Estella was born in Hastings, MI, December 27, 1942 to Cecil and Helen (Mahieu) Hodgman.

Estella was a member of the Eaton Rapids Conservation Club, the NRA and the Eaton County Flower Garden Club.

She is survived by her children, Bonnie (David) Young of Eaton Rapids, Tobi (Bruce) Jordan of Eaton Rapids, Cristy Palacios of Eaton Rapids, Jim (Tana) Miller of Vermontville, Cynthia Palacios of Lansing, Cathy (Jim) Backus of Charlotte, Tim (Judy) Palacios of Hillsdale, Ramon (Susan) Palacios of North Carolina, Julie Jordan of Eaton Rapids; brothers, Tony (Sylvia) Kidder of Hastings, Marshall Kidder of Hastings, Wayne Martz of Hastings and Doug (Kathy) Kidder of Florida; sister, Imogene Root of Hastings; a multitude of grandchildren and great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Estella was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Jordan; her birth mother, Josephine Kidder and her parents.

Memorial services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday May 3, 2009 at the Eaton Rapid Conservation Club. Interment was at Rosehill Cemetery.
