Maxine Olson

Maxine Marie Olson, 68, of Eaton Rapids died Oct. 30, 1998.

Mrs. Olson was born Sept. 24, 1930 in Charlotte, the daughter of Fred and Beatrice (Tripp) Raines.

Mrs. Olson is survived by her husband, Hughes; two daughters, Deborah (George) Hosack of Springport, and Laura (Lee) Ferman of Eaton Rapids; three sons, David H. (Sherry) Olson of Eaton Rapids, Steven (Patricia) Olson of Harrison and Danny (Sharon) Olson of Port Huron; 19 grandchildren; three sisters, Ruby Smith of Grayling, Thelma Simons of Charlotte and Valeri Sue Ann Lass of Lansing; and one brother, John Raines.

Services were held Nov. 3 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with the Rev. Arthur Salisbury officiating. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids.

Mike Olson

Mike Olson, age 47, of Eaton Rapids, died July 24, 1998 in Jackson. Mike was born April 7, 1951 in Bay City, the son of Herbert William and Ivy Bonita (Krause) Olson. He was a leader in Ingham Co. 4-H and a member of the Onondaga Sportsmen’s Club. Michael was employed with McDonald’s in Eaton Rapids and had been employed with Heights Auto Parts and Dick’s Auto Service in Eaton Rapids.

Surviving are his wife of 12 years, Florence C. of Eaton Rapids; 3 daughters, Dawn I. Sheldon of DeWitt, Deborah Olson of Lansing, April A. (Henry) Centeno of Lansing; 4 sons, Michael Olson, Leif Olson both of Lansing, Mathew (Yvonne) Thomas of Onondaga, Owen Thomas of Eaton Rapids and 2 grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held today, Tuesday, July 28, 1998 at 1 p.m. at the Onondaga Cemetery with Rev. Tom Peters, Pastor of the Dansville United Methodist Church, officiating. Casket bearers will be Mathew Thomas, Michael Olson, Leif Olson, Owen Thomas, Henry Centeno and Stephen Shelden.

Those desiring may make contributions to either the American Diabetes Assoc. or the National Kidney Association. Arrangements by the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.

Robert C. O’Neil

Robert C. O’Neil, 66, of Potterville died May 1, 1998 at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, Charlotte.

Mr. O’Neil was born in Engadine, the son of George and Olga (Warner) O’Neil. He worked at Oldsmobile for 30 years in final repair, retiring in 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine; three sons, Michael (Kristin) O’Neil of Charlotte, Brian (Charmin) O’Neil of Eaton Rapids, and Daniel O’Neil of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Sharon (Mark) Abel of Royal Oak and Kathleen O’Neil of Potterville; three grandchildren; two brothers, Edward (Betty) Mantei of Engadine, and Albert (Faye) Mantei of Crystal, Minn.; and mother-in-law, Rowena Soligny.

He was preceded in death by a son, Terrance; and brother, John Simmons.

A Memorial Mass was May 5 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Charlotte, with the Rev. John Valier officiating. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Memorial Fund or the local Humane Society.

Charles Otto

Charles Otto died July 24, 1998 in Danville, Calif.

Charles resided in Bellevue for 50 years prior to moving to Texas. He served in the Army Air Corps in the South Pacific during World War II. During that time he was employed with the Michigan Bell Telephone Co., he was presented with the Vail Award for Heroism. He was an elected member of the Bellevue Community School Board for 12 years, and served as an active member of both the Bellevue Lions Club and the Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and an active volunteer in community activities. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and jeeping in Colorado, where he spent his summers after retirement.

He is survived by Marjorie (Marge) Beckner Otto, wife of 52 years, of Mission, Texas; three sons, Stanley (Joyce) Otto of Otsego, Jeffery (Janice) Otto of Danville, Calif., and William (Kristine) Of Friendswood, Texas; two brothers, Bernard Otto and Richard Otto, and one sister, Mary Lou Vogt, all of Bellevue; four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held at the Bellevue United Methodist Church on Aug. 15 at 3 p.m. with interment at the Riverside Cemetery in Bellevue.

Donations may be made in Charles Otto’s name to Mt. Sneffels Education Foundation, P.O. Box 1883, Ouray, CO 81427; or to the Bellevue Memorial Scholarship Foundation, 575 Love Road, Bellevue.

Marion M. (Hine) Owen

Marion M. (Hine) Owen, age 88, died Monday, December 21, 1998 in Lansing. Marion was born June 7, 1910 in Charlotte the daughter of Josephus M. and Melvina I (Rice) Hine. She was a member of the Eaton Rapids First United Methodist Church since 1935 and also a member of the Pennway Church of God in Lansing. Mrs. Owen and her husband were the Owners of Owen’s Market in Eaton Rapids and she retired from Consumers Power in 1972 after 15 years of service. Marion was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Owen in 1986; son, Dickie Lee in 1931; 3 brothers; 1 grandson Billie Owen and 1 great-granddaughter, Sheena Esper.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Shari (Robert) Clough of Eaton Rapids, Sharon Williams of Holt; 3 sons, Tom (Charlene) Owen of Eaton Rapids, Bill Owen of Lansing, David (Billie) Owen of Lansing; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 1998, 11:00 a.m. at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with Rev. Richard Latham, Pastor of the Pennway Church of God, officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Those desiring may make contributions to either the Pennway Church of God or the Eaton Rapids First United Methodist Church in memory of Marion M. Owen.

Mary A. Parish

Mary A. Parish, 79, of Holt died Feb. 28, 1998.

Mrs. Parish was born April 18, 1918 in Hillsdale, the daughter of Herbert and Mabel (Riggleman) Patton. She worked as a cook and waitress in Jonesville. She was a former member of the North Adams United Methodist Church and the Midwest Tool Collectors Association.

She is survived by her son, Richard (Joan) Benn of Holt; daughter, Mary (Sterling) Bicket Smith of N. Carolina; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; and three sons, Robert, James, and John.

Services were March 3 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Constance Parker

Constance “Connie” Parker, 46, of Vermontville, died of natural causes Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998 at her home.

Ms. Parker was born Oct. 28, 1952 in Lansing, the daughter of Neil and Alice (Martin) Parker. She graduated from Maple Valley High School and worked for Michigan Association of School Administrators for over 25 years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

She is survived by father and step-mother, Neil (Marlene) Parker and step-sister, Kelly of Santa Maria, Calif.; brother, Dennis Parker of Victorville, Calif.; grandmother, Margie Joppie of Vermontville; niece and nephew, Dana and Derek Parker; aunt, Norma Viele of Vermontville; uncle, Don (Esther) Martin of Vermontville; aunt, Ilah (John) Sealy of Grand Ledge.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Parker; and grandparents, Jay and Myrna Martin, Hugh Parker and Henry Joppie.

Services were held Nov. 21 at Pray Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Lison officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Maple Valley Scholarship Fund or the Capital Area Humane Society.

Trinity J.T. Patterson

Trinity James Towery Patterson, 19, of Marshall died Jan. 30, 1998, as the result of being struck by a car on Pease Road, between Love Hwy. and Battle Creek Road, Eaton County.

Mr. Patterson was born March 10, 1978, in Marshall, the son of Kenneth and Judy (Segar) Patterson. He had attended MarLee School and was a 1997 graduate of Olivet High School. While a high school student, he was a member of the wrestling team and sang in the school choir.

He is survived by his mother, Judy of Marshall; his father, Kenneth of Hastings; one sister, Billie Jean Patterson of Marshall; his father, Larry Towery of Denver, Colo.; one half-sister, Kim Towery; two half-brothers, Larry Towery and Tony Towery; his grandparents, Glenn and Rena Segar of Bellevue, Willie and Joyce Patterson of Missouri, Mary Towery of Bellevue, and Donna Lundy of Dowagiac; two great-grandfathers, Fred Segar of Bellevue and Lloyd Lyttle of Battle Creek; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Services were Feb. 3 at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home, Marshall, with Pastor Steve Segar officiating. Interment was in the Bosworth Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Patterson Memorial Fund.
