Wayne Loran Perkins

Wayne Loran Perkins, 81, of Charlotte died May 21, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Perkins was born Aug. 10, 1916 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Ellsworth and Mae (Fowler) Perkins. He worked as a foreman for Eaton Stamping Co. in Eaton Rapids.

He is survived by his two sons, Lee (Linda) Perkins and Gerald Perkins; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Clyde Perkins of Springport. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Mae.

Services were May 23 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Bob Betts officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Eaton Community Hospice.

Genevieve Perry

Genevieve (Hooper) Perry, 78, of Charlotte, formerly of Olivet, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, in Charlotte.

Genevieve was born in Brookfield Township the daughter of Miles and Mina (Lamb) Hooper, and had been a Charlotte resident since 1940. She was a 1937 graduate of Olivet High School, was a life member of the Bellevue/Olivet O.E.S., was a member and past president of the Charlotte American Legion Auxiliary and was a 50-year member of the First Congregational Church UCC and its Blanche Moyer Circle. She had been employed as assistant controller in the Eaton County Controller’s Office, retiring in 1984 after 16 years of service.

Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Lawrence Perry; two sons, Rowland (Marilyn) Perry and Neil (Lana) Perry, both of Charlotte; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Mitchell of Bellevue.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Rowland Hooper, and four sisters, Bethel Imes, Ruth Sherman, Lois Carpenter and Mildred
Shrontz.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Aug. 5, at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Peter Brenner officiating. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Congregational Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Wallace “Wally” Peters

Wallace “Wally” Peters, age 69, died Thursday, October 15, 1998 at his residence. Wallace was born October 4, 1929 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Earlin Wallace and Edith Lula (Rose) Peters. Wally retired from Fisher Body in 1987 after 32 years of service. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Flossie Nettleton, Geneve Moyers, Iva Sebastian and 1 brother, Delmar Peters.

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Iva Jean; 2 sons, Delmar (Shannon) Peters of Olivet, Gene (Jennifer) Peters of Eaton Rapids; 4 grandchildren, Brittany and Dylan, Emily and Wyatt.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, October 17, 1998 at Tompkins Cemetery, Tompkins Center with Rev. Tom Evans officiating. Military honors were presented by Eaton Rapids American legion, Post #15 and VFW Post #1283. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society in memory of Wallace Peters.

Blaine E. “Pete” Peterson

Blaine E. Peterson, age 86, of Eaton Rapids and Vero Beach, FL, died Sunday, July 19, 1998 in Vero Beach, FL. Blaine was born June 16, 1912 in Evansport, OH, the son of Erman M. and Clela V. (Hall) Peterson. He was a member of the Eaton Rapids Masonic Lodge #63 F&AM, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, Grand Rapids, and the Shrine (Eaton Co.). Pete was a 54-year member of the Eaton Rapids Kiwanis Club with 45 years of perfect attendance. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Eaton Rapids for over 62 years. He was the owner and operator of Peterson TruValue in Eaton Rapids and had been a manager with A&P in Eaton Rapids. Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Glennis L. (Cool) in 1994 and 2 sisters, Isabelle Peterson and Berna Deane Peterson, both in 1996.

Surviving are his wife, Joy Ann; stepdaughter, Georgianna Patti and her fiancé, Duane Humby of Vero Beach; step-grandson, Anthony Patti; stepsister, Donna Balko of IN and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held July 23, 1998 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Dr. Alan Malcolm officiating. Interment followed at Rosehill Cemetery. A Masonic Memorial service was presented by the Eaton Rapids Masonic Lodge #63 F&AM on July 22.

Those desiring may make contributions to either the Lodge or the Church in memory of Blaine E. Peterson.

Shirley E. (Williams) Petsch

Shirley E. (Williams) Petsch, age 64, of El Paso, Texas, formerly of Charlotte and Chelsea, Mich., died Thursday, June 25, 1998 in El Paso.

Mrs. Petsch was born in Charlotte, the daughter of Alfred and Dora M. (Hitner) Williams, and moved to Chelsea with her family as a young girl. She was a graduated of Ann Arbor High School and received her bachelor’s degree at the University of Texas El Paso.

Surviving are four children, Mark Petsch of Ft. Worth, Texas, Mary (Ron) Taylor of Midwest City, Okla., Michael (Sandra) Petsch of Tempe, Ariz., and Matthew (Rochelle) Petsch of Virginia Beach, Va.; six grandchildren; one brother, Alfred (Doris) Williams of Charlotte; and three sisters, Phyllis Spitzley of Lowell, Barbara (Orrin Randall) Bingham of Saline, and Martha (Thomas) Knaggs of Rowlett, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were Tuesday, June 30, at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery.

Bradford J. Pierce

Bradford J. Pierce, age 42, of Eaton Rapids, died Friday, May 1, 1998 at his residence following a long illness. He was born May 9, 1956 in Highland Park, Michigan, the son of Robert and Carol (Selkeld) Pierce. Brad was a supervisor for the Michigan Packaging Company in Eaton Rapids. He began employment in 1973 as a janitor with M.P.C. and attained the level of Plant Superintendent before they moved to Mason. Brad was a member of the Eaton Rapids Wesleyan Church and a former Youth Director for the Eaton Rapids Baptist Church. He enjoyed golf and was a member of many area golf leagues and was a member of the Motorvators Car Club of Lansing. Preceding him in death are his parents, Robert and Carol Pierce.

Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Wanda; daughter, Julia Pierce of Eaton Rapids; 2 brothers, Robert J. Pierce of Eaton Rapids and Darryl (Vickie) Pierce of Stockbridge; 2 sisters, Denise (Darcy) Miller of Olivet and Renee Pierce of Jackson; nieces and nephews, Robert J. Pierce, Jacob, Sara and Erin Pierce, Derek and Adam Miller and Venice Pierce; special aunts and uncles, Shirley and Samuel Lane of LaHabra, CA and Jim and Lanie Selkeld of Petta Luma, CA.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 4, 1998 from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. Dennis Perkins and Rev. Ron Judge officiating. Graveside services followed in the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. Honorary bearers were Ben and Charlie Cooper; active bearers were Troy Peterson, Russell Peterson, Robert Pierce, Dale Sholty, Derek Miller and David Baker. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Rapids Wesleyan Church building fund in memory of Bradford J. Pierce.

Sherry L. Polhamus

Sherry L. Polhamus, 37, of Charlotte died Feb. 4, 1998, at Hayes Green Beach Hospital.

Mrs. Polhamus was born Oct. 17, 1960, in Lansing, the daughter of Stuart William and Shirley B. (Clark) Merrill. She married Edward Polhamus.

She is survived by her husband, Ed; two sons, Erik and Craig; daughter, Celeste; sister, Kimberly Jones of Bellevue; brother-in-law, Ricky McKellen of Bellevue; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Shirley Merrill; and one brother, Ricky Merrill.

Services were Feb. 7 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Arthur Salisbury officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Dorothy Powers

Dorothy E. Powers, 86, of Charlotte died Nov. 26, 1998.

Mrs. Powers was born Jan. 15, 1912 in Kent County, the daughter of Walter and Martha (Pinnock) Briggs. She was a cook for Charlotte Public Schools.

She is survived by one daughter, Carla (Dennis) Wertz of Charlotte; two sons, Richard (Pam) Babcock and Pastor Robert (Marvelyn) Babcock of Montana; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kennith April 6, 1986.

Services were Dec.1 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with her son, Pastor Robert Babcock, officiating. Interment was in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Vermontville.
