Mary Jones

Mary E. Jones, 65 of Charlotte, formerly of Arizona, died July 25, 2000.

Mrs. Jones was born Aug. 24, 1934 in Stattanville, Penn., the daughter of Paul and Alice (Freebourn) Clinger. She was a glass manufacturer production worker and enjoyed bowling, crafts, gardening and Bible study.

She is survived by one daughter, Stacey (Andrew) Harris of Charlotte; two sons, Steve Jones and Mike (Kelley) Jones, both of Bisbee, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Nancy (John) Duggan of Charlotte, Bonnie (Bob) Jones of Olivet, Irene (Bill) Etzel and Norma Martin, both of Clarion, Penn., and Linda Shepard of Dallas, Ga.; two brothers, Lewis Clinger of Strattanville and James Clinger of Grand Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter in 1999.

Special thanks to Kim of Ingham Hospice.

Services were July 27 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. David Selleck, officiating. Following local services, the body was taken to Bisbee, Ariz. for final services and interment in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ingham Hospice.

Beulah Jones

Beulah Almedia Jones, 94, of Charlotte died May 7, 2000.

Mrs. Jones was born March 5, 1906, in Eaton County, the daughter of Floyd and Beulah (Wickerd) Greenman. She had been a clerk at the Kelly Variety Store, Nashville.

She is survived by five grandchildren, Deborah Hughes, Rebecca Bellinger, David Chambers, Lisa Mueller and Lori Cotton; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Pease of Henderson, Nev.; one nieces, Margaret Greenman of Battle Creek; and several other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Jones, and three sons, Arlin Chambers, Myrlin Chambers and Jack Bowers.

Services were May 9 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment was in the Deepdale Memorial Park, Lansing.

Ellen M. Jones

Ellen M. Jones, age 79, died Sunday, February 13, 2000 in Wayne. Ellen was born, May 11, 1920 in Detroit, the daughter of Edward Morris and Mary Martha (Gendron) Nyberg. She was a resident of Eaton Rapids for many years, a member of St. Peter Church and the Altar Society. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton M. Jones in 1991.

Surviving are 6 children; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister. Mass of the Christian Burial will be prayed on Tuesday, February 15, 2000, 12 noon, at St. Peter Church, Eaton Rapids, with Father Bennett Constantine as Celebrant. Rite of Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Those desiring may make contributions to Hope Nursing Center, Activities Unit, in memory of Ellen M. Jones. Joyce A. Jones

Joyce Ann Jones, 60, of Lansing, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000.

Mrs. Jones was born Oct. 3, 1939 in Charlotte, the daughter of Donald and Margaret (Dick) Crosslan. She was a bus attendant for Dean Transportation.

Surviving are sons, Robert (Robyn) Jones of Charlotte and Gordon “Wes” Jones of Lansing; grandsons, Robert and Justin; brothers, Richard Crosslan of Charlotte and Keith Crosslan of Holt; and sisters, Donna Caswell and Barbara Williams, both of Lansing.

Memorial services were held Aug. 26 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with R. Raymond Rossell officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Dimondale.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Meredyth Jones

Meredyth “Spud” Jones, 74, of Charlotte, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000.

Mr. Jones was born March 8, 1925 in Olivet, the son of Harold and Mabel (Wright) Jones. He graduated from Ionia High School in 1943, then served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed by the State Highway Department of Michigan and also designed signs and displays for both the road Commission and fair board in Ionia County. Callender & Dornbos then employed him as a graphic artist until his retirement in 1988. He pursued his art at home, by illustrating, rendering, serigraphy, fine art, line drawings and airbrush. His work hangs in private collections throughout the nation.

He was a charter member, past president and treasurer of the Eaton Art League; served on the Eaton Intermediate School District’s Advisory Art Committee; was a former member of the Ionia Jaycees; and had served as trainer, commissioner and chairman of Circus and Exhibition Boy Scouts of America, Grand Valley District. He also loved sailboat racing and bowled in the Top of the Hill League, being named the House High Average Bowler for 1993-94. He was also President of the Charlotte Bowling Association and a member of the Charlotte Dads of Foreign Service VFW Post #286.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta; two daughters, Debbie (David) Kring of Harbor Springs and Tracy (Stacy) Seabrook of Oxford, N.C.; three sons, Chad (Marilyn) of Worland, Wyo. And Dennis (Georgia) of Cary, N.C., and Phillip (Tessie) of Stockbridge, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, Richard (Betty) of Dearborn.

Cremation has taken place.

Services were Jan. 26 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Dr. Charles Moore officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Art League.

Virginia Troutner Jones

Virginia Mae Troutner Jones, 82, of Charlotte died March 27, 2000.

Mrs. Jones was born Nov. 21, 1917 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Robert and Alice (Rogers) McDonald.

She is survived by one daughter, Rose Ann (Carl) Holmgren of Charlotte; two sons, Herbert (Laurie) Troutner of Port Huron and Max (Dena) Troutner of Bellevue; son-in-law, Gary Copenhaver; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton and one daughter, Neva Copenhaver.

Services were March 30 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Lester DeGroot officiating. Interment was in the Hicks Cemetery, West Pennfield.

William H. Jones

William H. Jones, age 97 of Eaton Rapids, died Friday evening, August 19, 2000 at his home. Mr. Jones was born May 2, 1903 in Dimondale, a son of Harry E. and Grace M. (Geisenhafer) Jones. His wife, Hilda Mary Ashley, died April 9, 1997 after 67 years of marriage. The Joneses lived in the Dimondale and Lansing area. Following his retirement from Wohlert Corp., they resided in Lake Wales, Florida for 27 years.

Surviving are their daughter, Marilyn (Jerry) Fuller of Eaton Rapids; three grandchildren, Colin L. (Holly) Paul, William D. (Donna) Paul and Sherri Lee Fuller; and seven great-grandchildren, Aaron, Brittany, Bradley, Nikki, Hayden, Chase and Sidney.

Graveside services were held Monday, August 21st at Dimondale Cemetery with Rev. Robert E. Betts, Chaplin of Eaton Community Hospice, officiating. Pallbearers were Jerry Fuller, Sherri Fuller, Bradley Paul, Colin Paul, William Paul and Aaron Spicer.

Irma C. Joppie

Irma C. Joppie, 98, of Vermontville, passed away Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000 at Pennock Hospital, Hastings.

Mrs. Joppie was born Jan. 27, 1902 in Vermontville Twp., the daughter of Willard and Julia (Ackley) Ward. On Oct. 8, 1921, she married Leonard Joppie; he preceded her in death on June 21, 1992. Mrs. Joppie was a member of the Bismark Ladies Aid Society and the Bismark Busy Bee Extension Club. She taught knitting in the 4-H club in Sunfield for many years, and was a former teacher in the Chance Country School. She loved gardening, flowers, and especially each one of her 68+ grandchildren. She lived in her home for 75 years, and was a great neighborhood friend who was always willing to help those in need.

Surviving are five children, Leona (Warren) McNally of Marshall, Louise (Charles) Viele of Vermontville, Musser of Vermontville, and Joanne (Douglas) Steward of St. Louis; 20 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 14+ great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Neil Joppie (killed in the Korean War, July 4, 1952); a grandson, Larry Neil Musser, June 20, 1986; and five brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held Nov. 30 at Rosier Funeral Home, Mapes-Fisher Chapel, Sunfield, with Rev. Eric Lison officiating. Interment was at Sunfield Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Maple Valley Memorial Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 715, Nashville, MI 49073.

Arrangements were by Rosier Funeral Home, Mapes-Fisher Chapel, Sunfield.

Bill Jordan

Bill “Shawnee Bill” Jordan, 65, of Eaton Rapids, died Sunday, April 19, 2000 in Eaton Rapids.

Mr. Jordan was born Aug. 2, 1934 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Jesse Russell and Helena (French) Jordan. He was the local Eaton Rapids “House Doctor” with a passion for restoring Victorian homes. He was the current president of the Eaton Rapids Conservation Club, and a former member of Three Fires Muzzle Loading Club.

Surviving are his wife, Estella; children, David (Violet) Jordan, Bruce Jordan, Tobi Jordan and Julie (Dick) Scott, all of Eaton Rapids, Cynthia Plowman of Lansing, Cathy (Jim) Backus of Charlotte, Ramey (Susan) Palacios of Texas, Jim (Tana) Miller of Vermontville, Cristy Palacios and Bonnie (David) Young, both of Charlotte, Tim (Carie) Palacios of Ypsilanti; 28 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jess Jordan and Steve (Shirley) Haskell of Eaton Rapids; two sisters, Doris (AJ) Adams of Eaton Rapids, Barb (Leo) Jones; and, several nieces and nephews.

A remembrance dinner was held April 19 at the Eaton Rapids Conservation Club.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Daniel Joseph

Daniel Scott Joseph, 38, of Eaton Rapids died Jan. 28, 2000.

Mr. Joseph was born Dec. 21, 1961 in Fort Wayne, Ind., the son of Donald and Mary (Brundage) Joseph. He was a mail carrier.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Ellen (DeMars); two daughters, Mary and Jessica; one son, Jack; his father, Donald of DeWitt; and two sisters, Jill Platte of Grand Rapids and Julie Horvath of Lansing.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary.

Cremation has taken place.

Services were held Feb. 2 at the Charlotte First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Glenn Neal officiating.
