Stephan L. Kaufmann

Stephan L. Kaufmann, 20 of Bellevue, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000 at Battle Creek Health System.

Mr. Kaufmann passed away after a long illness, and had been awaiting a double lung transplant.

He was born Feb. 23, 1980 in Battle Creek, the son of Jon and Sabine (Kipp) Kaufmann Sr. He graduated in 1998 and was employed at Fun Services, Inc., the family business. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, soccer and big trucks. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church.

Surviving are his parents; brothers, Jon Jr. and Robert Kaufmann of Bellevue; paternal grandfather, Albert Kaufmann of Bellevue; and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lutz Kipp of Germany.

Services were held Oct. 13 at St. Ann Catholic Church, with Rev. Msgr. Raymond Goehring officiating.

Interment was at Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 3064 Broadway, Saginaw, MI 48603.

Marion Kayne

Marion “Whitey” Kayne Sr., 74, of Charlotte, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000.

Mr. Kayne was born Feb. 2, 1926 in Chesapeake, W.Va., the son of Adam and Teanie (Lipinski) Kaynoski. He was married to Sarah Neer, who preceded him in death June 5, 1994. He was a supervisor at General Motors, Fleetwood Division of Fisher Body, and a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. He was also a regular at the McDonald’s morning coffee group.

Surviving are a son, Marion “Whitey” (Yvonne) II; two daughters, Tami (Robert) Closson of Sunfield, Brenda (Russ) Bolia of Boswell, Ark.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, George Opron of Geneva, Ohio, and Ted Opron of Fairview, W.Va.

Memorial services were held Oct. 5 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with R. Raymond Rossell officiating.

Hazel T. Kays

Hazel Thayne (Moore) Kays, 86, of Hastings, formerly of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000.

Mrs. Kays was born in Cassopolis on July 8, 1914, the daughter of Fred and Bess (Orr) Moore, and married Arthur Kays in 1933.

Surviving are her daughter, Ellen Christie Kays of Lansing; daughter and son-in-law, Beth and John Saurer of Hastings; sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Nancy Kays of Hendersonville, N.C., and Morey and Neva Kays of Punta Gorda, Fla.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur in 1988, and five sisters.

Services were held Oct. 20 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Rev. Dr. Peter Brenner officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Laura Kellogg

Laura Genevieve Kellogg, 77, passed away July 11, 2000 after complications during surgery.

Mrs. Kellogg was born Jan. 1, 1923 in Lansing, the daughter of Edward and Gertrude (Fredericks) Spencer. She worked as a cashier for several stores, was a bird lover, and a former member of Miller Road Bible Church, North School Mothers Club, Eaton County 4-H Extension and a current member of First Baptist Church of Charlotte. She was also known by many friends through her retail career at Arbaughs, Sears, Robert Hall and Eberhards.

Surviving are four sons, James (Kathy) Stewart of Grand Ledge, Dennis (Barbara) of Eaton Rapids, Robert Jr. (Tina) of Charlotte and Richard (April) of Englewood, Ohio; one daughter, Vicki Curry of Lansing; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dallas (Dolores) Spencer of Joliet, Ill., Edward Jr. (Patricia) Spencer of Tampa, Fla.; sister-in-law, Martha Spencer of Holt; and, many dear and special friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Kellogg Sr. in 1997; grandson, Lee Kellogg in 1998; brother, Forrest Spencer in 1994 and a very dear friend, Gladys Spotts.

Funeral services were held July 15 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Dr. Charles Moore officiating. Interment was at Deepdale Memorial Gardens, Lansing.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Youth Haven Ranch or Charlotte First Baptist Church Building Fund.

Edith Kennison

Edith (Knoll) Kennison, 64, of Bellevue died Dec. 31, 1999 at her home.

Mrs. Kennison was born Nov. 6, 1935 the daughter of William and Caroline (Garrity) Sellen in Bellevue Township. She had been employed by Wilcox-Gay in Charlotte, Air-Way Manufacturing, and several area restaurants as a cook and waitress. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her mother, Caroline Sellen; one daughter, Catherine Knoll of Olivet; four sons, Owen (Vicky) Jr., Gale, Matthew (Regi), and Neal, all of Olivet; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Suzanne Taylor and JoAnn Bowser of Lansing; two brothers, Kenneth Sellen of Northville and Irvin Sellen of Marshall; and one half-brother, Ricky Link on Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Sellen in 1995, and one brother, Conrad Sellen in 1979.

Graveside services were Jan. 4 at Hillside Cemetery, Kalamo Township, with Pastor Doug Hammon officiating. Arrangements were made by the Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Maxine P. Kenyon

Maxine Pearl Kenyon, 86, of Lansing, formerly of Charlotte, died Dec. 23, 2000.

Mrs. Kenyon was born in Ionia, the daughter of Harrie and Pearl (Presley) Morgan. She and her husband, Sidney, owned and operated the Charlotte Home Bakery. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Charlotte, and its Mary Murray Circle. She was Past Noble Grand and Past District President of the Charlotte Rebekah Lodge #68 and attained the highest degree of chivalry in the Rebekah Lodge. She was also a Red Cross volunteer in Charlotte.

She is survived by one son, Richard (Bea) of Glendale, AZ.; one son-in-law, Gary Mabie of Mt. Clemens; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Mead of Mulliken; and one brother, Milton Morgan Zephyrhills, FL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney in 1982, one daughter, Helen Mabie in 1994, one sister, Helen Ketchum, and one brother, Elton Morgan.

Services were held Dec. 27 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Richard Wilford officiating. Interment was in the Middleville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetic Association.

Keith W. King

Keith W. King, 91, of Olivet, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000.

Mr. King was born May 27, 1909 on the family farm in Carmel Twp., Eaton Co. He graduated from Charlotte High School, and from Michigan State University with the Class of 1931. He taught vocational agriculture and biology at Morenci, Battle Creek, Lakeview, Olivet and Charlotte high schools. He also operated a dairy farm in Carmel, Eaton and Walton Townships. He was a member of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men, Michigan and Battle Creek Milk Producers Associations, Eaton County Farm Bureau, Eaton County Historical Society, King’s Kampers and the Holiday Rambler Camping Association. He also served as a 4-H leader and was a charter member of both the Thornapple Grand Soil Conservation District and Charlotte Lions Club. He enjoyed traveling and working on antique clocks.

Surviving are his son, Dennis (Sandy) of Charlotte; daughter, Dianne Gundry of Olivet; four grandchildren , Abby King, Jeremy King, Brian (Beth) Chappell and Celeste (Scott) Smith; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty (Dale) Redman of Bradenton, Fla.; and brother, Kenneth King of Duck Lake.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, and his sister, Rosemary Ladd.

Funeral services were held Sept. 9 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church in Charlotte.

Richard King

Richard “Dick” King, age 73, passed away March 1, 2000 at Ingham Medical Hospital after a long illness.

He was the former owner of Kings Bar & Grill in Dexter for 21 years. He then worked and retired from Thetford Corp. in Dexter, he was a member of the Ann Arbor Elks and Vice-President of Washtenaw Table Toppers. Mr. King was born June 14, 1926 in Jackson, Michigan the son of Clyde and Doris (Campbell) King.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years June (Butler), son Randy (Adele) King of Pinckney, grandchildren Michelle King of Ann Arbor, Stephanie King of Grand Rapids, sisters-in-law; Myrtle King of Arizona, Elaine Butler of Grand Ledge and Wanda Butler of Lansing, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother Paul King.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 6, 2000 at Pray Funeral Home with Rev. Geri Litchfield officiating. Interment will be in Center Eaton Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be Sunday 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home.

Donald Kirvan

Donald Kirvan, 80, of Potterville, formerly of Great Lakes Christian Home, Holt, died April 24, 2000 at his residence.

He was born in Lansing, the son of Roscoe and Norma (Schram) Kirvan and had been a Potterville resident since 1938, coming from Okemos. He was a 1938 graduate of Okemos High School, attended Ferris Institute, where he was a member of the band, a member of the State FFA Band in 1936 that went to the National FFA Convention in Kansas City, Mo., a life member of Potterville Lodge #367 F&AM, and had been employed at Oldsmobile in Lansing, from which he retired in 1975 after 30 years of service.

He is survived by one brother, John of Paw Paw; and nieces and nephews, Denise (Steve) Smith, David (Norma) Kirvan, Carol Kirvan, Cathy (Monty) Cox, Trace (Dawn) Kirvan, Nancy (Mark) Schafer and Eric (Kelly) Kirvan.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1970, his mother in 1992, sister-in-law, Julia (Keyes) Kirvan in 1961, brother Duane Kirvan in 1988; niece, Teresa Kirvan in 1993; and sister-in-law, Doris (Feyerabend) Kirvan in 1994.

Services were April 27 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Chaplain Robert Palmer officiating. Interment was at Deepdale Memorial Park, Lansing.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Potterville United Methodist Church or Oldsmobile Outdoor Club.
