Florence Whiting

Florence “Dolly” Whiting, 86, of Charlotte, died March 4, 2010. Mrs. Whiting was born April 1, 1923 in Lansing, the daughter of Charles and Erie (Mills) Belbeck.

Mrs. Whiting enjoyed camping in the U.P. at Muskallonge State Park. She also enjoyed making ceramics.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Whiting in 1995 and her siblings, Dorothy, Melvin, Beatrice and Edwin.

She is survived by her son, Charles (Vicki) Whiting; two grandchildren, Melissa (Josh) Myers and Jon Whiting; two great grandchildren, Sunshine and Shane Myers and nieces and nephews.

Visitation was Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Pray Funeral Home.

Michael J. Wilber

Michael Jay Wilber, Sr., 63, of Potterville, went to be with the Lord on Nov. 16, 2010 surrounded by his family. Mike was born December 18, 1946 in Owosso, to Frank and May (Van Aken) Wilber. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, a former member of the DeWitt Moose Lodge and was previously employed by W.R. Grace and Wohlert Corporation. Mike was an avid Santa and baseball card collector and enjoyed spending time outdoors. He was a husband, father, grandfather, Papa, friend, and neighbor who was always known to say, “If you need anything, just give ma a call”.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Helen; his children, Tammy (Gary) Robert, Barbra (Calvin) Funsch, Michael Wilber, II, Amy Joe (Timothy) Bates, Candy Stallcup, Charles (Heather) Wilber and Daryan Wilber; his grandchildren, Kyle, Ashlee, Bryan, Frank, Andrew, Michael III, Trenton, Sedric, Emmalee, Ariel, Nicholas, Melony, Nathaniel, and Charles, Jr. He also leaves behind his siblings, Clark (Grace) Ketchum, Dorthea (Leo) Peasley, Wayne (Paula) Wilber, Romona (Tony) Hart, Norma Hyatt, Wanda (Gordon) Merrell; many nieces and nephews; and life long friend, Charles Lumbert.

A military graveside service was held Monday, November 22, 2010 at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Lansing, with Pastor Richard Moe of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America.

Wayne Mathew Wilbur

Wayne Mathew Wilbur, age 74 of Vestaburg and formerly of Eaton Rapids died Friday, March 12, 2010 at his home with his wife by his side. Born February 18, 1936 in Eaton Rapids the son of Charles R. and Carrie L. (Clark) Wilbur. Wayne graduated from the Eaton Rapids High School and served proudly in the Navy. He became the owner and operator of Mid Michigan Packaging in Edmore, Michigan and later retired to his beautiful retreat in Vestaburg.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; daughter, Sharron (Les) Eaton of Kalamazoo; granddaughters, Amber Eaton and Kirstin (Jon) Mycko; grandson, Shawn Willie of Kalamazoo; step-daughter, Natalie (Martin) Sage-Petermann of Charlotte; granddaughter, Saige Petermann; step-sisters and brothers, Jean (Jim) Toth of Quincy, Joane Bartholemew of Coldwater, Charles (Kim) Wilbur of Quincy and Bob Wilbur of Quincy; mother-in-law, Bette Emede of Charlotte; uncle, Bud Wilbur of Eaton Rapids; several nieces, nephews and cousins and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Burial will follow with full military honors at the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. George Wildern

George Wildern, 84, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, September 15, 2010. He was born November 20, 1925 in Ashville, NC, the son of Harper and Flora (Ball) Wildern. After growing up in Charlotte, George served in the U.S. Army Air Corp as a tail gunner in a B-17 during WWII. Following the war, George graduated from Ferris Institute School of Pharmacy in 1949 and joined the family Pharmacy at Wildern Drug Store, a long time family owned business in Charlotte, eventually becoming the owner. Many will remember George for his wide-ranging involvement in the Charlotte Community. George was an Eagle Scout and a former Boy Scout Troop 46 leader. He also was a charter member of the Charlotte Kiwanis Club and the Charlotte Downtown Development Authority. He also served the community as a member of the Charlotte Frontier Days Board and was Grand Marshal of Frontier Days. His many other community memberships included the Lawrence Ave. United Methodist Church, the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, the Masonic Lodge #120 and the Shriners. Many will remember George’s love of flying and downhill skiing in Colorado. George and his wife Dolly started the Ski Loft and were credited with encouraging numerous local people to join the sport. George had earned numerous awards throughout his years, most recently being presented with the Ferris State University Pharmacy Alumni Award and the Charlotte Rotary Community Service Award both in 2008.

He is survived by his sons, Jeff (Beth) Wildern of Charlotte, Dr. Steve (Toni) Wildern of Hastings, Dr. Kent (Coni) Wildern of Grand Rapids; eight grandchildren, Harper (Mandy) Wilder, Joseph (Wendy) Wildern, Danielle (Nick) Juhle, John (Larah) Wilder, Christopher Wildern, Chad (Kara) Wildern, Kyle (Loni) Wildern, Kristen Wildern; seven great grandchildren, Marilyn, Andie Elizabeth, Jakson, Bridger, Catherine, Maxwell, and Kaden; brother-in-law, Don Molinaro of Clearfield, Penn.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Esther “Dolly” Wildern in February of 2008.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 19, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Reverend Karen Wheat officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be Saturday, September 18 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home.

Charles Williams

Charles Williams, 80, of Onondaga passed away August 3, 2010. Funeral services were held August 5 at Pray Funeral Home.

Mark K. Williams

Mark K. Williams, 49, of Jackson, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010. Mr. Williams was born May 9, 1960 in Battle Creek, the son of Doyle Williams and Julia Smuts Barnes.

He was preceded in death by his father, Doyle Williams; step-father, Richard Barnes and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Claud Smuts.

He is survived by his mother, Julia A. Barnes; sister, Darla (Robert) Smith of Georgia; brother, Donald (Glenda) Barnes of Colorado and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Darwin Kuhl officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Rev. Max L. Williams, Jr.

Rev. Max L. Williams, Jr., 59, born in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, went home to the Lord on Saturday, July 3, 2010. He served as a United Methodist Minister for 30 years in the West Ohio Conference. Max was preceded in death by his mother, Dorotha and his sister, Ruth.

He is survived by his father, Max, Sr., sister, Barbara Payne, both of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, Jayne (Jan) Stuckey, of Marietta, Georgia, and their families. Max is survived by his pride and joy, sons, 2 Lt. J. Zachary Williams, of Fort Knox, Kentucky and Samuel T. Williams, a senior at Baldwin-Wallace College, in Berea, Ohio.

Family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at the Rutherford Funeral Home at Powell, 450 West Olentangy St., Powell, Ohio 43065 (614) 792-1471 with a brief prayer service at 4:00 p.m. The prayer service will be conducted by Rev. John Girard. (The funeral home is located on w. Olentangy St./Powell Rd./SR 750 ½ mile east of Sawmill Parkway).

Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Eaton Rapids, 600 S. Main St., Eaton Rapids, Michigan on Saturday, July 31, 2010 with Rev. Dean Francis, Rev. Lyle Heaton and Rev. Daniel Hofmann, officiating. Family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. with services at 4:00 p.m., as well as a light dinner at the church following the service. Special thanks to the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center and Tidewell Hospice in Sarasota, Florida and to the numerous friends and family who continue to be an enormous support. Nancy Williams

Nancy Williams, age 65, passed away in Lansing, September 18, 2010. She was born in Trinidad, CO February 6, 1945, the daughter of Pedro and Flora (Apadaca) Baca.

Nancy had a heart of gold. She was a foster parent for 3 years and worked with developmentally disabled adults in Lansing and Eaton Rapids for 20 years. Nancy was also a Para Professional for Eaton County in Charlotte for 10 years. Her hobbies included watching cooking shows, going to the movies, playing bingo and gambling. She was a huge Denver Bronco fan and loved to shop for her grandchildren. Nancy leaves behind numerous friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Teresa (Paul LaNore) Slaght of Eaton Rapids; son, James Williams of Carson City, MI; 8 grandchildren, Tabitha, Tyler (Danielle), Katrina, Nathanael, Rebekah, Thad, Trevor, Kiersten; 3 brothers and 6 sisters. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Ted Williams in 1980 and her parents.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 24, 2010 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids, MI 48827. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Teresa Slaght, 8903 Cockroft Rd. Eaton Rapids, MI 48827, for the grandchildren’s college funds.

Clara Lee Wyatt

Clara Lee Wyatt of Eaton Rapids was called home by her Heavenly Father, Friday, June 4, 2010 at the age of 77. She had been recently residing at Country Acres Adult Care Home and was being loved and cared for by owner Shelia Henderson and her wonderful staff, along with Hospice of Lansing. Clara had been an employee at Michigan National Bank and of the Eaton Rapids Hospital. She was a lifelong member of the First Untied Methodist Church in Eaton Rapids where she sang praises to the Lord with the choir for many years. Clara also helped there with the many Red Cross Blood drives supplying sandwiches and needed help. She is credited for raising large funds for cancer and proudly participated in the Relay for Life in Eaton Rapids as a cancer survivor. Clara had also been very active in the Michigan State Holiness Campmeeting Association of Eaton Rapids where she resided for many years. She was very proud to display the red, white and blue colors and what they stood for. Clara spent most of her time showing the love of Jesus by caring for others (and their pets) and was often bringing love in the form of food to those who needed a lift. She will be greatly missed by her family of friends that had blessed her life with love and helped lift her burdens in her times of need, of which we are very grateful.

Clara is survived by her sisters, Betty Hendrickson of Eaton Rapids, Sue (William) Mills and Barbara Garrison, both of St. Cloud, FL; brother, David (Nellie) Wyatt of Mecosta; sister-in-law, Jane Wyatt of Eaton Rapids; special niece, Kathy (Greg) Meredith of Onondaga and her little blessing Lexi Haring of Onondaga. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Margaret Wyatt; brother, Raymond Wyatt; brothers-in-law, George Hendrickson and Ted Garrison.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at the first United Methodist Church, 600 S. Main St., Eaton Rapids, with Pastor Daniel Hofmann officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids. Interment will be at Rosehill Cemetery.

Sidney E. Weseman, Jr.

Sidney E. Weseman, Jr., 88, of Charlotte, died February 18, 2010. He was born February 3, 1922 in Palmyra, Mo., the son of Sidney and Alice (Bier) Weseman, Sr. Sid was a First Lieutenant Fighter Pilot in the US Air Force during WWII. He flew in England, France and Germany in 1944 and 1945 and was involved in the invasion of Southern France and The Battle of the Bulge. His duties primarily were to support the U.S. ground troops (both infantry and armored). He flew a P-47 with the 406 Fighter Squadron for 89 missions. Targets were many and varied but mostly destruction of gun positions, tanks, bridges, rail and motor transport were his responsibility. He earned the Air Medal with 14 oak leaf clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He succeeded in business, working for Continental Oil and then building one of the first quick-stop gas station/convenience stores in Central Michigan. He is known for his integrity and fairness in both business and personal affairs. Having a true “joy of life”, he led an active life. He began downhill skiing at age 48, and has been an avid golfer, hunter, and naturalist. He was a member of the men’s club and the VFW. He and Nathalie have traveled both near and far.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nathalie; son, Sidney (Nancy) Weseman, III of Chicago, Ill.; daughter, Judy Weseman of Kenosha, Wisc.,; son, Mark Weseman of Knoxville, Tenn.; daughter, Aimee (Michael) Chartrand of Palmer, Ark.; son, Matthew (Katie) Weseman of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Luke (Mary) Weseman of Allen, Texas and John (Lori) Weseman of Charlotte; 15 grandchildren; one great grandchild; sisters, Elizabeth Roth of Palmyra, MO. and Mary Jo (Robert) DeVries of Quincy, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Sidney Weseman, Sr. and sister, Alice Baechle. Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlotte with Rev. Father Francis Mossholder officiating. Interment was held in St. Joseph Cemetery in Palmyra, Mo.

Marjorie G. Youngs, 81, of Potterville, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010. Funeral services were held Friday, July 9, 2010 at Pray funeral Home in Charlotte.
