Richard A. Abernathy

Richard A. Abernathy, 64, died Tuesday, November 9, 2010. He was born November 19, 1945 in Benton Harbor, Mich., the son of Ralph and Wilma (Reynolds) Abernathy. Richard was employed by General Motors as a fork truck driver. He served his country in the US Army during Vietnam and was a member of the American Legion Post #42 in Charlotte. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, playing guitar, speed boating and bowling. Some of his favorite times were camping at Tall Pines with the Abernathy families, annual trips to Mackinaw City and traveling to Texas in 1994 where he was baptized with Kenneth Copeland in Eagle Mountain Lake, Newark, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise; daughter, Tammy (Michael) McCaulley of Ceresco; son, Richard Eaton of Charlotte; daughter, Christina (Sam) Ray of Herron, IL; son, Richard (Becky) Abernathy of Marion IL; 11 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; step-mother, Gloria Abernathy of Holt; brothers, Sam (Floyce) Abernathy of Holt and Jeffrey (Sandra) Jester of Coloma; sisters, Debbie Ribby of Holt, Lori (Kevin) Frisbee of Holt, Lisa Hand of Holt and sister-in-law, Mary L. Abernathy of Potterville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Phillip Abernathy; Joseph “Duane” Jester and sister, Nina Lee.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 12, 2010 a Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Pastor Mark Bender officiating.

Albert B. Abbott

Albert B. Abbott, 95, formerly of White Pigeon, died April 21, 2010 in Stuart, Florida where he had resided since 1977. He was born in Towanda Illinois, the son of Bert and Bessie Hurst Abbott. He was a 1933 graduate of White Pigeon High School. Two siblings, Lelna Miller and Lowell Abbott preceded him in death. He married Verna Hamilton in 1938 in White Pigeon. She died in 1975. Together they had two children Cheryl Huff, Detroit, and Daryl (Sue) Abbott, Middlebury, IN, who survive. In 1976 he married Merla Ward and she died in 1985. In 1985 he married Eleanor Funk and she died in 1993.

He is survived by his present wife Bettie Neumeyer Abbott. Also surviving Albert are three grandchildren, Bruce Abbott, West Virginia, Ashley Berkey, Goshen, IN and Heather Abbott-Harmon, Indianapolis, IN. He has six great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. He was employed at Weyerhaeuser Paper Company in White Pigeon for 39 years. He was a trustee on the White Pigeon Community School Board of Education. He was a member of the White Pigeon Lions Club for many years. He was very involved signing singing in churches in the southern Michigan area, and was a member of the White Pigeon United Methodist Church. He was instrumental in organizing vacation tours to Hawaii, Israel, Europe and several cruises. He spent his summers at Eaton Rapids Campground where he had a cottage.

Cremation has taken place. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to Eaton Rapids Camp Meeting Association, Box 74, Eaton Rapids, 48827.

MaryAnn Allen

MaryAnn Allen, 67, of Charlotte, passed away at Eaton Community Hospice, Friday, March 5, 2010. MaryAnn was born July 27, 1942, in Charlotte, the daughter of Bohumil and Theo (Hyatt) Zakora.

She retired from the Eaton County Medical Care Facility. Mary Ann enjoyed card games, crossword puzzles, keeping up on the local gossip and spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; brother, Frank; son-in-law, Danny Tuckey and her mother and father.

She is survived by her children, Chris (Scott) Volz, Theresa (Vern) Bailey, Bo (Jen) Allen, Shannon Allen Harmon, Lisa Rivera, Jason (Robin) Allen and Chris (Lori) Hines; 20 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; siblings, Penny (Jack) Rider, Larry (Judy) Zakora, Jack (Deb) Zakora, Iris (Galloyd) Stadel and Joe (Millie) Zakora and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial dinner was held Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at American Legion Post No. 42, Charlotte.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Ricky Vernon Allen

Ricky Vernon Allen of Parma, age 40, passed away November 24, 2010. He was born in Eaton Rapids October 15, 1970, the son of Vernon and Bonnie (Newsome) Allen. Ricky enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his daughter. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for other people. When there was a project to work on, he was the first one there to help. He enjoyed listening to the minister at the Albion Park and was a wonderful caregiver for his father when he fell ill.

Ricky is survived by his daughter, Faith Elizabeth Allen of Albion; mother Bonnie of Parma; siblings, Margaret (Mark) Lawe of Springport, Viola “Babe” England of Charlotte, Peggy Sue (Roy) Newborn of Alabama, Mark Allen of Parma, Tammy Allen of Quincy, MI, Jeremy Allen of Springport; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; daughter, April May Allen; nephew, Justin Lawe.

Funeral services were held Sunday, November 28, 2010 at the Shell-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids, MI. Pastor Bobby Adkins officiated. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.

Edward James Andrews

Ed Andrews, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on December 8, 2010. He was born April 26, 1921, the son of Dorr and Gertrude (Briggs) Andrews.

Ed was born in Vermontville, where he met and married his wife Frieda on April 13, 1946. He served in the Army during WWII. He was known as a “Ford” man selling cars for many years before going to work for Lansing Electric Motors retiring in 1987.

He loved his family and his farm, he was a great gardener known for his “tasty” sweet corn and for being the best Euchre player. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 2406, Charlotte Eagles, and Charlotte American Legion.

He will be greatly missed but never forgotten by his children, Marcia Young Hal (Pam) Andrews, and Sheila (Jeff) Bisel; grandchildren Sherrie (Shad) Golding, Jim Young, Kristie Andrews, Tricia (Jason) Somers, Kristin VanDorpe, and Dustin (January) Bruk. Great grandchildren Devin and Blaine Somers, Kasen VanDorpe, Kirstin Golding, and Cooper Burk.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Frieda (Kuball) Andrews and his parents Dorr and Gertrude (Briggs) Andrews; sisters Agnus Lake and Shirley Brumm, brother Ion Andrews.

Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home.

Ion Andrews

Ion “Peewee” Andrews, 82, of Nashville, died Sunday, August 22, 2010. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte.

Peggy Archie

Peggy (Arnett) Behnke Archie died November 15, 2010. She was born March 8, 1932 to Odos and Glee Arnett in Fort Wayne, Ind. Peggy lived most of her young life between Albion and Marshall, Mich., helping out on the family farm. She was a member of the Marshall High School class of 1948. She helped to make a happy home for her children (Judy, Jeri, Jackie and Billy) with her first husband, Bill Behnke in Marshall and then Charlotte. After marrying Floyd Archie and moving to Grand Ledge, she retired with Floyd to Winterhaven, Fla. in 1982. She enjoyed spending time with her mother, Glee, sisters, Elma Gene and Glee Ellen where they all enjoyed shuffle board, playing cards and listening to country music at their favorite hangout, Allen’s, where Floyd could show off his musical talent for his blushing bride. The favorite part of life was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, which she loved with all her heart. She will be sorely missed as she always brightened our days and nights with love and laughter.

She is survived by her daughters, Judy (Jim) MacInness of Charlotte and Jerri (Brian) Elliston of Charlotte; son, Bill (Lora) Behnke of Charlotte; grandchildren, Beth (Stan) Oldfield, Kim and Marci Bankhead, Jeff (Danielle) Whitely, Jamie Whitely, Erica Andreau, Kristin Gavin, BJ (Ashley) Behnke and Megan and Alyson Behnke; great grandchildren, Sara and Sydney Oldfield and Will and May Gavin; sister Gene Bosserd and brother-in-law Paul Robinson.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bill Behnke; second husband, Floyd Archie; and daughter, Jacalyn Dempsey.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 19, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home with niece, Carolyn Robinson-Fisher officiating.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice.

Wesley L. Arnold

On September 20, 2010 Wesley L. Arnold, of Mulliken, went home to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 14, 1930 to Marny and Ethlyn (Huffman) Arnold, the oldest of six children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Jennalene Arnold and Debbie Arnold, and mother-in-law, Rose Hufnagel.

Wesley was a lifelong farmer, an avid hunter, fisherman and jack-of-all-trades. He married Mary Hufnagel on December 3, 1977 in Fowler. Wesley loved his family. He spent his last day at Eaton Community Hospice.

Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Mary (Hufnagel) Arnold; two children, Eddy Arnold and Amy (Nelson) King; granddaughter, Alivia Grace King (who was born December 11, 2009 and was the “apple of grandpa’s eye”; grandpa’s pet names for her were “Precious” and Alvie”); three brothers, Delbert Arnold, Lynn (Janis) Arnold and Earl Arnold; two nephews, Greg (Darcy) Sivyer and Justin (Autumn) Sivyer; many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services were held Wednesday, Sept. 29 at Barker-Leik Funeral Home in Mulliken, with Pastor Darrel Bosworth officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice, 2675 S. Cochran Ave., Charlotte, MI 48813.

Lana R. Ash

Lana Renee Ash, 62, of Olivet, died Saturday, December 4, 2010. Lana was born February 15, 1948 in Albany, Ind., the daughter of Hubert and Ellen Gaines.

She is survived by her children, Laura Ash (Jerry Peregord) of Marshall, Teresa Hosack of Charlotte, Pamela Ash of Ill.; grandchildren, Casey and Andrew Kudlicki; siblings, Maurice (Nancy) Godfrey of Salem, Ind., Janet (Fred) Zink of Carleton, Mich., Jim (Teri) Gaines of Monroe, Mich., and Lee (Jackie) Gaines of Newport, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Ellen Gaines, her biological father, Paul Godfrey, as well as her husband, David. Lana was an excellent cook, sharing her love by trying new recipes and teaching others to cook. She loved to cross-stitch, to play cards, and had a great love for her cats.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 14, at Pray Funeral Home with Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Osseo. Visitation will be Monday, December 13, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice or Eaton County Humane Society (in Olivet). The family would like to give special thanks to all caregivers that have enriched her life and have been touched by her in a positive way.

Donald H. Auvenshine

Donald H. Auvenshine, 62, of Lansing died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010. Mr. Auvenshine was born Dec. 31, 1947 in Weakley County, Tenn., the son of CD and Elaine (Underwood) Auvenshine.

Mr. Auvenshine worked in skilled trades at General Motor, served in the Army in the Vietnam War and was a member of the VFW 40&8 in Lansing. He was a mechanic, enjoyed carpentry and was always tinkering with something. Mr. Auvenshine liked old country music and going to the Tater Town Festival in Tennessee on Labor Day weekends.

He was preceded in death by his father, CD Auvenshine and brothers, Roy and Dennis Auvenshine.

He is survived by his mother, Elaine Auvenshine of Dresden, Tenn.; son, Troy (Sara) Auvenshine of Charlotte; daughter, Tammy (Dave) Ross of Charlotte; stepson, John (Paula) Estes of Lansing; grandchildren, Cameron and Brad Auvenshine, Megan and Macy Ross of Charlotte, Jessica Jordan of Holt, Alisha Wicker of Charlotte; great-grandson, Jonathon Wicker; brothers, Debro (Barbara) Auvenshine of Aiken, S.C. and John (Sue) Auvenshine of Eaton Rapids; sisters-in-law, Linda and Norma Auvenshine; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday Jan. 9, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Robin Crouch officiating. Interment was in Dresden, Tenn.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice House.
