Herbert, Nancy Jane (Nee Hershberger)

East Lansing, MI

(Formerly of Greensburg, PA)

Born February 8, 1942, Nancy passed away on July 1, 2003 in her home with her family by her side after many gracious, courageous years of struggle with her illness. She was the daughter of Earl L. and Lillian R. Hershberger of Greensburg, PA. Nancy graduated from Greensburg High School in 1960 where she first met Benson, her husband of thirty-eight years. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from Seton Hill College in 1964 and went on to complete an internship in therapeutic dietetics at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston. Nancy served on staff at the Washington D.C. Hospital Center before moving to East Lansing, Michigan. An active member of the American Dietetic Association and the Michigan Dietetic Association, Nancy served as a Consultant Dietitian for several hospitals and nursing homes in the greater Lansing area. Nancy was a dedicated member of Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church and served on the St. Elizabeth’s Guild, the Episcopal Church Women and the Design and Preservation Committee. Nancy was instrumental in one of the largest fund raising efforts in St. Paul’s history which lead to major renovation of the facilities and she was particularly pleased to have contributed her expertise to the redesign of the new Church kitchen. Nancy received the Canterbury Cross Award for extraordinary service to the Church. Nancy was a loving, beloved and dedicated mother and wife. She so loved her children, her family, her friends and her song birds. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving her are her husband, Dr. Benson R. Herbert; her daughters Whitney Herbert of Lansing, MI and Dr. Stacey Herbert (Dr. Luca Crispi) of Dublin, Ireland; her siblings, Joanne Hershberger of Greensburg, PA, Linda Neel (James) of Newark, DE and Mark Hershberger (Jane) of Ephrata, PA. Surviving also is Nancy’s true legacy: extraordinary courage, strength, selflessness, grace and inspiration. Services are arranged by Estes-Leadley Funeral Homes. A memorial service will be held in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Lansing on Saturday, August 16, 2003 at 11:00 AM, with the Reverend Dr. Gordon F. Weller officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be offered to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church or the Ingham Visiting Nurse and Hospice in Nancy’s memory.

Hepler, Harold Harry
Eaton Rapids, MI

Age 62, passed away on March 29, 2003. He was born on September 30, 1940 in Albion, MI, the son of Gerald and Lottie (Angevine) Hepler. Mr. Hepler attended Michigan State University, where he studied Mechanical Engineering and was an avid sports enthusiast. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Clifford Hepler. Surviving are: son, Harry H. Hepler of Lansing; daughters, Amy Marie Hepler of Chicago and Angela Mary (Carl) Hepler-Schlacher; 3 grandchildren, Roehm, Mak, and Sabeau Schlacher; brother, Jerry (Patricia) Hepler; sister, Nancy (Jim) Johnson; sister-in-law, Delores Hepler-Bell; and nephews, Jerry Michael Hepler, Todd Hepler and Mark Johnson; and niece, Michelle Burch. Also surviving is the mother of his children, Barbara J. Hepler. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with the Rev. Delores Hepler-Bell officiating. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ele’s Place, in memory of Harold H. Hepler.

Hensley, Earl

Dansville, MI

Age 69, Earl went to be with his Lord, Jesus, on July 3, 2003. He died at his home, with his loving family gathered around him. He was born on June 4, 1934 in Breathit County, KY, to Goodloe and Lula Hensley. Earl was a member of the Holt Assembly of God Church. He was employed at General Motors for 31 years, retiring in 1988. Surviving are: his wife, Diane; 8 children, Jerry, Mary, Merlene, Robert, Paul, Karen, Bill and Michelle. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Earl also has 2 brothers, Floyd and Matthew; 3 sisters, Joan, Bonnie and Jessie Mae. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alma Dean; brother, William Preston; and his precious granddaughter, Jennifer. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, with Pastor Ron Arnett officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3-8 p.m. Sunday, and from 6-8 p.m. Monday. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association in memory of Earl Hensley.

Henderson, Harold T., Sr.

Lansing, MI

Age 72, passed away on March 7, 2003. He was born on December 23, 1930 in Detroit, and lived in Silver Springs, MA for 23 years, then moved to Lansing. Mr. Henderson was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Naval Reserves, and was a member of the Mt. Moriah Post #460, American Legion. He was also a member of the East Lansing Lodge #480, F.& A.M., Williamston Chapter #117, Royal Arch Masons, Lansing Commandery #25, Elf Khurafeh A.A.O.N.M.S., Red Cedar Chapter #434, O.E.S. and the Capital Caravan Shrine Club. Mr. Henderson was also an active member of the N.R.A., the Capital City Hunting and Shooting Club, and the Isaac C. Walton League of America. He was an avid motorcyclist, and rode with the Lansing Motorcycle Club. Surviving are: 2 sons, Harold (Michelle) Henderson, Jr. of Cheyenne, WY, and Jeffery (Kristi) Henderson of Keflavic, Iceland; 4 grandchildren; sister, Martha Lovejoy of Lansing; 2 brothers, Ray Edward (Janice) Henderson of Novi, and Daniel (Lynn) Henderson, Sr. of Harrington, DE; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon Thursday, March 13, 2003, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children in memory of Harold T. Henderson, Sr.

Henderson, Edward Jarold
Eaton Rapids, MI

Age 73, passed away on December 18, 2002, he was born on February 19, 1929. Edward was retired from General Motors after 32 years. He loved to hunt and camp. He is survived by his wife, Peggy (Decess) Henderson; 6 children, Susan Williams, Sally Booker, Sona Henderson, Earl Henderson, Sherrie Rust, Shelly Henderson; 2 step children, Denise Olivares and Dean Hufnagle; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and many kind and supportive friends. There will be no services held. Donations may be given to Ingham Visiting Nurses Hospice.

Heiser, Randy Jon

Holt, MI

Age 58, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2002. He was born January 12, 1944 in Lansing the son of Adolph G. and Mildred R. (Bengry) Heiser. Mr. Heiser was a 1962 graduate of Lansing Everett H.S. and owned and operated Heiser’s Auto Body in Holt for the past 20 years. He also coached local wrestlers for the last 19 years. Randy enjoyed golfing, traveling in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and was an avid flower gardener. Surviving are: Margaret, his devoted wife of 35 years, who loved, cherished, and admired him; two daughters, who loved and adored him tremendously, along with their husbands, Mary Beth (Nathan) Yoder of Peach Bottom, PA, and Amy (Jeff) Safran of Waterville, OH, and two grandchildren, Ashley and Jack Safran, who were the joy of his life. Also surviving him, his sister, Julie (Chris) Parent of Henderson, NY and many in-laws who loved him as their own. They include: mother, Alice Williams; grandfather, Ralph Williams; sisters, Sheila (Wayne) Lamson, Linda (Robert) Vollwerth, Jennifer (Lynn) Williams-Goodwin and Lana Huntoon; brothers, Don (Debbi) Wilson and Brian (Teresa) Williams as well as aunts and uncles and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews with whom he spent many happy hours. Very special friends, Wayne and Connie Kreiner, along with a host of many other wonderful friends also survive. Randy was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Lowell Williams and brother Monte Heiser. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Fr. John A. Beyers at 2:00 p.m on Monday, August 5, 2002 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3815 S. Cedar St. in Lansing. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in loving memory o Randy, to the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society, Michigan Chapter, 1420 E. 12 Mile Rd. Heidel, Martha A.
East Lansing, MI

Martha Heidel went to be with her Lord on October 7, 2002 at the age of 91. She was born to August and Christina Heidel on November 19, 1910 in Lansing. She attended Lansing schools, graduating from Lansing Central High in 1928. Martha was a life long member of Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was employed 42 years with the Lansing School District in various secretarial positions, retiring in 1971 as secretary to the Superintendent of Schools. Martha was a member of MARSP (Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel) and GLARSP (Greater Lansing Association of School Personnel. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law, Lydia and Gustof Kommandt, and other family members and friends. Graveside services will be held at Evergreen cemetery at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 9, 2002. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran church or charity of your choice.

Heath, Leo

Eagle, MI - Formerly of Holt

Age 98, passed away on June 5, 2003. Leo was born on October 10, 1904 in Bay City, the son of William and Ada (Bruce) Heath. Mr. Heath retired, as a supervisor, from the U.S. Postal service after many years of service. He was an Army veteran, a member of the Holt Masonic Lodge #572, Elks BPOE #196 Mason, and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Holt. Leo enjoyed hunting, bowling and gardening. He was preceded in death by: his wife of 63 years, Gladys in 1989; his daughter, Heather Ann Spraker in 1994; 1 brother and 4 sisters. Leo is survived by: son, William (Carole) Heath of Eagle; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and sister, Thelma Witchtoski of Mason. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, June 9, 2003 at the First Presbyterian Church of Holt, 2021 N. Aurelius Road, Holt, with the Rev. Dr. Bruce A. Brooks officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Eagle’s Nest Adult Foster Care, 13282 S. Hinman Road, Eagle, MI 48822.

Martin, Leona A.

Okemos, MI

Age 77, was called home to her lord, Sunday October 13, 2001. She was born June 21, 1924 In Owosso, the daughter of Leon and Eva (Hoard) Powers. Leona had worked as an in home care giver and had served on the Residence Council at Ingham County Medical Care Facility . She is survived by her son: Leon H. (Cheeryl J.) Martin of East Lansing, Grandson Nathanniel W. (Kimi) Martin and Granddaughter: Christina L. Sanders both of Lansing, Great Grandchildren: Dusty, Cassie and Kristofer, Sister: Ruth Hazelman of Brighton. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service has been held. Donations may be made in memory of Leona to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
