Okemos, MI.

Age 31, passed away March 1, 2003. Born November 7, 1971 in Lansing, MI. Kelly was a graduate of Okemos High School, Davenport College, Lansing Community College and was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in East Lansing. She was predeceased by her grandfathers, Robert A. DeMarco and John Daily. Kelly is survived by her mother and step-father, Rosemary and John Clark of Okemos; father, John P. Daily of AZ; grandmothers, Stella DeMarco of Lansing and Marjorie Daily of FL.; uncles and aunts, John and Connie DeMarco, Michael and Vanessa DeMarco, Terry and Renee’ DeMarco, Patrice and James Solomon and Penny Chadwell; great uncle, Frank Dionise; great aunts, Ida, Ernestine and Genevieve Dionise, and Eleanor, Ruth and Delores DeMarco along with many loving cousins and friends. The family wishes to thank the Staff at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan for their loving care. A memorial Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. David J. Speicher at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2003 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 955 Alton Dr., East Lansing. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to the mass. In Lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, 1210 W. Saginaw, Lansing, MI 48915 or to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Koch, A. Betty (Colt)

Lansing, MI

Age 78, passed away on May 1, 2003. She was born on October 13, 1924, the daughter of Walton F. and Ada M. Colt in Lansing. She was baptized at the First Presbyterian Church in Lansing in 1925. She remained a member for 60 more years. During which she attended Sunday school, youth groups, was a choir member and was a Girl Scout for age 12 through age 18. As an adult she taught Sunday school for 16 years, during which time, she was also the Girl Scout Leader for the church troops. As her children became involved in youth activities, she also became a counselor in this area, plus active in Women’s Assoc. and Circle events. Betty graduated from Central High School in 1942 and attended Michigan State College through 1944. Betty believed in continuing education and took several night school classes in Accounting and Basic Computer classes at Lansing Community College in preparation for the two-day extensive exam for Certified Professional Secretary designation, which she passed in 1964, and was awarded the certificate by The National Secretaries Association. Later, she began studies for the Certified Administrative Management exam for which she took and passed four of the six required sections. After these, she was transferred to Southfield, MI and did not continue with the balance of the CAM program. Betty worked for Tranter Mfg. Co., Inc. for 18 1/2 years, starting in the mailroom and ending as head of the Order Dept., which processed all orders for Tranter products. In this capacity she was liaison between field reps, customers and the factory. After leaving Tranter, she worked for the Michigan Congress of Parents & Teachers in 1969 and 1970. For a brief period of time she worked at Sparrow Hospital in the personnel and purchasing departments. In 1971, she began working for R.F. Brown Seafood Company. In 1981, she moved to Southfield, MI, when the Company began working with the Halling-Keil Co. At this time, she was Vice-President of R.F. Brown Seafood Company. In 1985, R.F. Brown Seafood Co. was sold to the Halling Co. in Livonia, MI, and she became Secretary/Treasurer of the new company, and remained there until retirement in 1997. Over the years she was involved in many organizations, including, Junior Achievement, helping secretaries with their companies. She was also an active member in her Business Women’s Chapter and was a Past President and had been chairman of many committees. In 1974-75, she was selected as Woman of the Year for her chapter. Betty was also a member of the Administrative Management Association, Civitan International, National Secretaries Association, and worked closely with Alsa, a fund raiser for St. Judes Hospital. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her brother, Wilton and sister-in-law Burleigh; her sister, Beverly (Babe). Also preceding her in death in 1970 was son, Brian Walton Koch, a member of the Lansing Police Department. Surviving are: son, Jeffrey Paul Koch and his wife, Penny, a special daughter-in-law, of Lansing; grandson, Jeffrey Brian Koch of CA and his wife, Nichole; special friends who gave her exceptional love, Sarah, Niko, Kristina, John and Nicholas Pehlivanoglu, Mary, Jay and Michael Ramsey; and a very special person, who Betty thought of as a daughter, Suzanne Heflin of Brandon, MS. Betty felt blessed to have the support of many friends, especially, Aileen Perry of Shelby, MI, Carole Roe of Westland, Dan and Toni Halling of Novi, Veronica Hudson of Lansing, to name a few. From childhood through, her precious group of high school friends to those acquired later in life, she was most thankful to have been included in their lives. She also felt fortunate to have been able to enjoy many years of employment with outstanding companies. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2003 at the First Presbyterian Church of Lansing, 510 Ottawa Street, Lansing, with the Rev. Anthony A. Patrick officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Judes Hospital, or the Multiple Sclerosis Society, in memory of Betty Koch.

Becker, Roy J.

Lake, MI

Age 83. Our beloved father "Boompie" and best friend closed his loving eyes and went home on April 2, 2002. Born August 1, 1918 in Chicago, IL, the son of Martha and Vernon Becker. Mr. Becker was a Veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army in the European Theater. He retired from the Lansing Police Department as a Lieutenant after 34 years of faithful service. He was a member of VFW Post #1075 of Harrison and Capitol Lodge #141 F.O.P. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Madeline; precious son, John; beautiful granddaughter, Mary Michelle Filice; and other loving family members. He is survived by: his children, Kay (Tony) Filice of Parkland, FL, Diane (James) Barrett of Perry, Cindy (Charles) Dart of Lansing and son, Ron (Peggy) Becker of Lansing; 8 grandchildren, Jeff and Julie Barrett, Joe and Collette Filice, Brett and Deanna Dart, Matt (Michelle) Becker and Catherine Becker; 2 great grandchildren, Brandon Dart and Madeline Becker, beloved sister, Grace Noble of Lansing; and other loving relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 6, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with the Rev. William Renfrew, Chaplain of Lansing Police Dept., officiating. Interment follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Vermontville, MI. The family received friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2002 where the rosary was prayed at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Nelson, Vincent M.

Lansing, MI

Age 85, passed away December 21, 2001. He was born in LaRose, Illinois on May 6, 1916. He spent his childhood and youth in this Mid-West area. He attended Augustana and Bradley Colleges. During World War II he served with the Army Air Force in China, Burma and India. He joined a Michigan based men's clothing chain, most recently known as Redwood and Ross, as a manager and supervisor. For a time he served as president of the Lansing Downtown Business Association. Following his retirement from the firm we worked in the area of real estate sales. Church activities included serving on boards and teaching Sunday School. At one time he was president of Everett P.T.A. For many years, and until the present, he has been a dedicated volunteer for the Bethlehem Lutheran Food Bank. He is survived by Margaret, his wife of sixty years, a son, John of Lansing and daughter, Cynthia Hill of Wilmette, Illinois and five grandchildren who were the joy of his life. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2001 at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Chruch, 549 E. Mt. Hope, Lansing with Rev. James A. Schalkhauser and Rev. James R. Lichtenberger officiating. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 26, 2001 at the Estes-Leadley Funeral Home. Memorial gifts may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church of the Greater Lansing Food Bank.

Betts, Walter Roy

Lansing, MI

Age 76, passed away on January 3, 2002. He was born on October 23, 1925 in Lansing, and has lived in Lansing all of his life. Mr. Betts graduated from Eastern High School in 1943, and is a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was an employee of the Lansing Board of Water and Light, retiring in 1987 after 33 years. Prior to that, he worked for Christman Const. for 6 years. Mr. Betts was a member of Mayflower Congregational Church for the past 33 years. Surviving are: his wife of 55 years, Marilyn; 2 daughters, Carol Croston and Jennifer Betts, both of Lansing; son, John (Kathleen) Betts of Albion; grandson, Scott (Lynnette) Croston of Kimberly, WI; great granddaughter, Raquel Croston; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Roe and Cloy Betts; and 2 brothers, Robert and Richard Betts. A funeral service was conducted by the Rev. David T. Bandfield, of Mayflower Congregational Church, at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2002, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., on Tuesday, January 8, 2002. Memorial contributions may be made to Mayflower Congregational Church in memory of Walter R. Betts.

Dalrymple, Lois M.

Lansing, MI

Born on December 26, 1917 in Clinton County, the daughter of Murdo and Nina (Ward) Bancroft, passed away on November 17, 2004 at the age of 86. She had been employed as a supervisor in the Income Tax Division of the State of Michigan Treasury Department for 20 years, retiring in 1972. Lois was a life member of Chapter #490, O.E.S. and a member of the American Business Women’s Association and the State Employee Retirees Association. Her favorite hobbies include sewing, reading and traveling, but she especially enjoyed the cottage at Houghton Lake and boating on Lake Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother and sister-in-law, Wilbur and Velma Bancroft. Surviving are: her husband of 66 years, Gerald N. Dalrymple; sons, Gerald K. Dalrymple of Lansing and Brian Dalrymple of Holt; grandchildren, Ian (Jennifer) Dalrymple of Jackson and Jacob Dalrymple of Plymouth, MN; brother, Bruce (Nancy) Bancroft of Lansing; and several nieces, nephews and close friends. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lansing City Rescue Mission, 607 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI 48912. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Montgomery, Alice

Lansing, MI

Age 83, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2002. She was born on September 13, 1919 in Lansing., MI, the daughter of James and Ora (Beck) German. She was a graduate of Lansing Central Class of 1937 and graduated from M.S.U. She worked for the State of Michigan, Department of Civil Service; was a member of Sparrow Auxiliary Volunteers for over 30 years; was a member of the Mayflower Circle at Plymouth Congregational Church and was a long time member of Central United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by: husband, Robert Montgomery in 1995; and sisters, Mildred Wolford and Helen Smith. She is survived by: sons, David (Nancy) of Virginia Beach, VA and Thomas (De) of Lansing; daughter, Susan (Robert Blattner) Montgomery of Malibu, CA; grandchildren, Heather, Sarah, Patrick and Mandy; great grandchildren, Emma and Marin; brother, James Nelson (Hester) German of Lansing; and special niece, Luella Wahl of Kewadin, MI. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 29, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Inurnment will be in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or the Sparrow Foundation.

Tran, Quoc Minh

Lansing, MI

Age 23, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2002. He was born September 30, 1978 in Vung Tau, Vietnam. Quoc graduated of Waverly High School in 1997 and Kettering University with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 2002. He was an altar boy at St. Mary Catholic Church and was a member of St. Andrew Dung-lac Catholic Church. Quoc will long be remembered as a loving son, brother, nephew, and grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hai Minh and Nu Thi Tran. He is survived by 2 sisters Bich Tram and Bich Thu "Dorothy" along with 2 brothers, Minh Ky and Minh Tan "James". The Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Fr. Joseph Tran at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2002 at St. Andrew Dung-Lac Catholic Church, 5430 S. Washington, Lansing. Rite of Christian burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel on Thursday from 5-9 p.m. and on Friday from 5-9 p.m. Visitation will also be held at the Church on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. until service time.
