Axelsen, James H.

Holt, MI

Age 82, passed away Aug. 10, 2004. He was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on April 15, 1922, moving to Lansing at the age of 3. He was a graduate of Lansing Eastern High School; earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Michigan; was a member of the Holt United Methodist Church; and was a Veteran of W. W. II, serving as a pilot in the U.S. Navy. He was employed as a chemist for Wyeth Laboratories in Mason for 34 years. Surviving are nieces and nephews, Fred and Larry Dunn, Carl Petersen, Andrea Urban, Rosalee Dewis, Sandra Petersen; sister-in-law, Rosalee Petersen; special neighbor, Jim Parks. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Inger and Fred Dunn; brother, Fred Axelsen; a half-brother, Carl Petersen; and a niece Karen Dunn. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 2004 in the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with The Rev. Lynn Grimes, Pastor of the Holt United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to Holt United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.

Lehman, Robert L.

Lansing, MI

Robert L. Lehman of Lansing suddenly passed away June 1, 2003 in Manistee, MI where he was temporarily recuperating with his beloved daughter, Carol, after a recent illness. He was a lifelong member of the Loyal order of Lansing Moose Lodge #288 and the Lansing Chapter Fraternal order of the Eagles Lodge #1039, and a longtime member of the Church of the Resurrection. Robert retired from the United States Postal Service in Lansing after 38 years of service. He continued to work part-time for the Lansing Postal Credit Union as a bank teller until his recent illness in September of 2002. He was on several golf leagues and golfed three times a week. He is preceded in death by his wife, Deanna. He is survived by his brothers Thomas (Betty) Lehman of Lansing and William Lehman of Stanton, MI, his children Carol Smith of Manistee, Robert (Lisa) Lehman of Shelbyville, TN, David Lehman of Lansing, MI, and Marie Huffman of Portland, MI; nine grandchildren, Melissa (Rob) Hall, Jeremiah Smith, Heather Smith, Robert Lehman III, Brooke Lehman, Stephanie Lehman, Tammy Sanchez, Dustin Huffman, Daniel Lehman; several nieces and nephews; special friends to the family, Jane Diesing, Matt Shively, and their daughter Natalie Shively, Paul and Michelle Shively and their children Dacota and Kyira, Paul Cova of Howell, Melvin Harrison of Lansing, Jessica Barhorst of Minster, OH, Jon Shively, Nicole Supercynzski and Ryan Shively. Special thanks to the Loyal order of the Moose Lodge in Manistee where he was made so welcome each and every time he visited. A special thank you as well to Munson Home Health Care especially his nurses, Margaret, Debbie, Cathy, Ann, and Lana. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2003 at Church of the Resurrection, 1531 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, with the Rev. Fr. William J. Koenigsknecht as celebrant. The family will receive friends on Wednesday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 4-6 and 7-9 p.m., and on Thursday, from 1-5 and 6-9 p.m., where the Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family of Robert L. Lehman.

Nelson, Paul R.
Lake City, MI (Formerly of Lansing, MI)

Age 76, passed away on March 19, 2003. He was born on May 12, 1926 in Lansing, the son of Paul John and Bernice (Burt) Nelson. Mr. Nelson owned and operated Nelson Insurance Agency until 1986; and was an insurance agent from 1954-1986; was a WWII Navy Veteran, was a naval motor machinist, LCI and received 4 battle stars; a member of American Legion Post #300 and Masonic Lodge #408, in Lake City; a founding member of Delta Township Rotary; an amateur ham radio operator and his call letters are K8PUU; he holds an instrument rated pilots license; and enjoyed golfing, sailing, cribbage, investing, computers, telling stories, and riding his Harley. Surviving are: his wife of 55 years, Mary Lou; son, Chris Nelson; daughter, Dr. Jean Nelson; and grandson, Jordan Quilico. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2003 at his daughters residence, 1 Chateux Du Lac, Fenton, MI. 810-750-6699. Memorial contributions may be made to the Missaukee County Humane Society, 5310 W. Houghton Lake Road, Box D, Lake City, MI 49651.

Beers, Freda

Holt, MI

Age 90, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2002 in Lansing. She was born on May 23, 1911 in Brookings, South Dakota, the daughter of Ted and Dena (Kruger) Westerbur. Surviving are: 3 children, Melvin (Linda) Beers of Lowell, MI, Eva (Terry) Cole of Brownsville, TX, and Donna (Nick) Sanchez of Kinston, N.C.; 6 grandchildren, Mindi (James), Dena (Bill), Dawn, Philip, Ginger (Brandon), and Kimberly; great grandson, Dominic; sister, Anna McCarney; brother, Melvin Westerbur; along with several nieces and nephews. Freda was preceded in death by: her husband, Gilbert M. Beers; and brother, Ted Westerbur. Funeral services were conducted by Lecil Sullivan and Peter Mousseau at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel on Monday, April 1, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. Interment followed in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family received friends at the funeral home on Sunday, March 31, from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to Hospice of Lansing Residence, 3411 Stoneleigh Drive, Lansing, MI 48911, in loving memory of Freda Beers.

White, Tedd T.

Lansing, MI

Loving father, grandfather, cousin, devoted partner, and friend, left our world November 3, 2001. Born in Lansing, to parents Rita (Miller) and Ken White, September 21, 1932, Tedd's life journey traveled many roads. A Sigma Chi Fraternity brother, and 1954 MSU graduate in Journalism, Tedd was a proud Spartan fan right up to this year's one-second victory over Michigan. Stationed in Alaska as an Army Ranger, his unyielding loyalty to his country never wavered. Tedd was employed by Jackson Mutual, before he began his real estate career with the Walter Neller Company. A mortgage banker, and private developer of residential and commercial sites throughout regional Lansing. Tedd joined Coldwell Banker Hubbell Real Estate Company in 1982. His diverse business sense, his infinite talents and vast knowledge will be truly missed by his friends at Hubbell, and the many contractors he worked with. Tedd was a member of the Greater Lansing Association of Realtors, the National Rifle Association, and was a Past President of the Michigan Steelhead's Association. He was an avid sportsman, and was thrilled when in October, fishing with his son, Ken, he finally caught a Permit fish. Family and friendship was Tedd's most cherished treasure, he would do anything and give everything to them to make their life's journey a little easier. He leaves behind, daughters, Teddi (Fernando) Fernandez of Florida; Barbara Johnson of Florida; Lisa (Jeff) Powell of California; son, Ken (Debbie) of Florida, and step-daughters, Shawn (Garron) Dale-Currier, and Marcy (Steve) Dale-Vandenburg. Five of the most beautiful grandchildren a man could ever wish for, Rita, Scott, Markie, Gillan and Sabrina. His loving partner, Molly Culver was the apple of this eye, and his cousin, Gary Johnson, was the brother he always wished for. Special people that Tedd's life was blessed with, his close friend and colleague, Bob Hubbell, his extended "Lebanese family", and all his "Falsetta Friends." Funeral services were held Thursday, November 8, 2001, at 11:30 a.m. at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. The family received friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the NRA.

Felton, Bruce R

East Lansing, MI

Surrounded by his loving family, Bruce passed away on December 14, 2001 at the age of 49. Mr. Felton was a Special Need Resident of State Road Home in East Lansing. Bruce was tenderly taken care of for many years at the State Road Home. Mr. Felton worked at ADL of Lansing. He is survived by his parents; Ken (Joyce) Felton of Holt, 2 sisters; Christine Felton of Howell, Marcia (Louie) Smith of Haslett, 2 brothers; Tim Felton of Detroit, Tomme Felton of Lansing, along with several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins. There will be a funeral service on Monday, December 17, 2001 at 11:30 am in the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, the family will receive friends on Sunday, December 16, 2001 from 5-9 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Community Mental Health.

Silvestre, Ethel G. "Mimi"

Holt (formerly of Lansing)

Age 90 passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2003. She was born on February 24, 1913 in Muskegon, MI to Irving and Mary (Soules) Nelson. Ethel who was affectionately known by her family and friends as "Mimi", enjoyed dancing, gardening, playing cards, baking bread and traveling both in the U.S. and abroad. She was a buyer for Probst Drug Store for 16 years and volunteered at Lansing General Hospital for 30 years. Mrs. Silvestre was preceded in death by her husbands, Jesse Wise in 1952 and Francis Silvestre in 1969. She is survived by daughter, Jaclyn (Dr. Donald) Anderson of Holt; son, Wayne (Jo Ann) Wise of Portland; grandchildren, Teri Rutter, Craig, Cris and Brian Allen, Jeffery, Michael and Mark Wise and Kathy Hoerner; 17 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; brother, Robert Milt (Leah) Nelson of Phoenix, AZ. Memorial services will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Ingham Regional Medical Center Foundation.

Trachsel, Elsie

East Lansing, MI

Age 87, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2002. She was born on June 9, 1914, the daughter of William and Sophia (Sawyer) Trachsel. She was a lifelong resident of Lansing, before moving to Burcham Hills Retirement Center in East Lansing in 1998. Following her parents' footsteps as schoolteachers, Elsie taught in the Lansing School District for 38 years. She was an active member in the community and a generous philanthropist and attended the Unitarian Universalist Church of East Lansing. She is survived by her sister and lifetime companion, Janette Trachsel. There were no services. Memorial contributions may be made in Elsie's memory to the Janette and Elsie Trachsel Fund of the Capital Region Community Foundation, 6035 Executive Drive, Suite 104, Lansing, MI 48911, to support those in greatest need in our tri-county community, and the visual and performing arts.
