Creative, generous Jo Ann Baynum "had an idea every day'
Jo Ann Schuerman Baynum of Fort Thomas could do everything from cooking healthy meals for school children to building a playhouse for her grandson and a dollhouse for her granddaughter.
But the most important thing about Mrs. Baynum was her generous heart, said daughter Jeannette Peters of Crest view and son Steven Baynum of Fort Thomas.
"She was very caring, very loving," said Mrs. Peters.
"She was always there for everybody. She was always taking care of everybody else."
Added Steve Baynum: "She'd do any thing for anybody - even strangers.
"When we were growing up, all of our friends called my mom when they needed somebody to talk to."
Mrs. Baynum died Monday afternoon at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was 64.
Mrs. Baynum was a native of Northern Kentucky.
She began began working as a cafeteria cook at St. Catherine of Siena School in Fort Thomas in 1972.
She worked 10 years at the school, which was attended by both her children.
She also was a member of the school's Mothers Club.
Mrs. Baynum also was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxil iary.
Steven Baynum said family members called her "Jo-Ann-of-all-trades" because of her interest in building things.
"My mother built anything and everything," said Mrs. Peters.
"She built my son, 9-year-old Bran don Peters, a playhouse. She built him a pond in the back yard.
"Years ago she built my daughter, 16-year-old Amber Peters, a beautiful doll house, and all the furniture was hand made."
Brandon wrote in a eulogy for his grandmother, "Grandma had an idea every day."
Mrs. Baynum also is survived by her husband of 43 years, Ernest Baynum.
Other survivors include sisters, Shirley Williams of St. Louis and Janet Immegart of Florence and a brother, Kenneth Schuerman of Mentor.
Mass of Christian burial will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church in Cold Spring.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home in Fort Thomas, with prayers at 7 p.m.
Burial will be in St. Stephen Ceme tery in Fort Thomas, with services at the cemetery chapel 10 a.m. Friday.
Cecil Balford, 55, of Decatur, Ala., formerly of Northern Kentucky, died at 5:20 a.m. Tuesday at her residence. She was a clerk for Redstone Arsenal.
Survivors include her husband, Ed Balford; a son, Michael Wagers of Covington; a daughter, Mary Ann Deck of Covington; brothers, Russell Richard son of Cincinnati and Ivan Richardson of Hamilton, Ohio; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, 313 W. 19th St., Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Landmark Memorial Gardens, Sharonville, Ohio.
Alice C. Wilson Day, 102, of Williamstown, died at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at Grant Manor Health Care Center in Williamstown.
Arrangements are pending at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown.
Louise Flege, 91, of Williams town, died at 4:15 p.m. Monday at Grant Manor Health Care Center in Williamstown after an extended illness. She was a re tired elementary school teacher, having taught with Elliston Elementary, Corinth Elementary, Kenton County Schools and Ma son Elementary School, Grant County.
She was a member of Williamstown United Methodist Church, Grant County Retired Teachers Association and Captain John Lillard Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors include brothers, J. Blain Flege of Williamstown and Raymond K. Flege of Atlanta.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Williamstown Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Williamstown Unit ed Methodist Church, 206 Paris, Williamstown, Ky. 41097; or the charity of the donor's choice.
Mary Elizabeth Gantner, 78, of Cold Spring, died Tuesday at her home. She was a home maker.
Survivors include her husband, Edward K. Gantner; and a brother, William Kern of Love land, Ohio.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.
Thomas Graves Jr., 48, of Covington, died at 4:08 p.m. Nov. 12 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington.
Survivors include sisters, Cynthia Barnes and JoAnn Graves, both of Fort Wayne, Ind., Lou Ann Akins of Chicago, Kathy Graves of Hayward, Calif., and Barbara Graves of Ohio.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Greenlawn Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.
Curtis Hubbard, 38, of Silver Grove, died Sunday in an auto accident on Decoursey Pike in Morning View. He was a tree trimmer with Natorp's Inc.
Survivors include a son, Mi chael Curtis Hubbard of Demossville; a daughter, Kirsten Klette of Covington; his parents, Melvin Hubbard of Taylor Mill and Mary Hubbard of Silver Grove; brothers, Richard King of Independence and Thomas Paul King of Carrollton; and sisters, Shirley Will of Tampa, Fla., and Sherrie Weinel of Covington.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Fri day at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Julia Estell Luke, 35, of Covington, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington.
Arrangements are pending at Jones and Simpson Funeral Home, Covington.
Betty Jeffries Ridout, 70, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Crescent Springs, died Monday at San Antonio Community Hospital. She was an assembly worker in the computer industry.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer T. Ridout; a daughter, Sheila Berry; a brother, Edward Jeffries; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be at 9:15 a.m. CST Thursday at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 tonight at Oak Hills Mortuary, San Antonio.
Charles David Rohmiller, 70, of Lady Lake, Fla., formerly of Latonia, died Sunday at his home. He was a retired systems accountant with the federal government, and a member of St. Mark United Church of Christ in Latonia, Covington Lodge No. 746 F&AM, and the Covington Scottish Rite. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce R. Rohmiller; a daughter, Patti Myles of La Plata, Md.; a son, David C. Rohmiller of Gaithersburg, Md.; a brother, Arthur Rohmiller of Dayton, Ohio; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Highland cemetery Chapel, Fort Mitchell. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

John Nicholas Runion, 75, of Covington, died at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. He was a retired machinist with Dover Corp., Cincinnati, a member of Berean Baptist Church, Independence, and a Navy veteran of World War II. His wife, Emily Runion, died in 1995.
Survivors include a stepson, Joseph Otto Hall of Fort Myers, Fla.; a sister, Evelyn Sandlin of Crittenden; brothers, William M. Runion of Cincinnati, Joseph W. Runion of Independence, Allen E. Runion of Corinth, Ronald J. Runion of Walton and Russell L. Runion Sr. of Crescent Springs; five step-grandchildren and many step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Big Bone Cemetery, Union.
Gertrude Ann Schulte, 95, of Fort Thomas, died at 4:52 p.m. Monday at Carmel Manor Nursing Home in Fort Thomas. She was a retired saleswoman with Fair Store, Cincinnati.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Carmel Manor Nursing Home Chapel. Visitation will begin there at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.
Johnny Stamper, 40, of Covington, died at 9:35 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a metal finisher with J&M Metal Finishing, Covington.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Stamper; stepsons, J. C. Ross, Joey List and Daniel List, all of Covington; stepdaughters, Shay St. Clair, Trina List and Nancy List, all of Covington; his parents, Russell Stamper of Middletown, Ohio, and Evelyn Stamper of Covington; brothers, Jeff Stamper of Independence, Jerry Stamper of Bromley and Randy Stamper of Covington; a sister, Glenda Daniels of Florence; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Friday at Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Vine Run Cemetery, Dry Ridge.
