Marcella McKinley, 90, helped others

Marcella McKinley, who was a PTA president, Scout leader and Red Cross volunteer, learned the importance of helping others early in her life.

"She was orphaned when she was 6 and lived in a boarding home, " said Mrs. McKinley's daughter, Patricia Mulcahy of Verona. "When you're raised that way, you learn to help others."

Mrs. McKinley, 90, of Florence, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence.

She was a homemaker and a member of Florence Christian Church.

Mrs. McKinley was a past president of Third District School PTA in Covington, and a Girl Scout, Brownie and Cub Scout leader. She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross.

"She was a giving person, " said Mrs. Mulcahy. "She was always doing things for others. She was especially interested in helping children.

"She was at every church bazaar, making candy, making dinner. During World War II, she knitted caps for soldiers and was an air raid warden, going around the neighborhood making sure lights were out as they were supposed to be."

Mrs. McKinley's hobbies included knitting and crocheting. She also was an excellent seamstress.

Her husband, Verner McKinley, preceded her in death.

Other survivors include a daughter, Shirley Daley of Cincinnati; a son, Verner Andrew McKinley of Walton; a sister, Lucille Grady of Edgewood; brothers, Richard Lozier of Westlake, Ohio, and Charles Lozier of Florence; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Highland cemetery Chapel, Fort Mitchell. Visitation will begin there at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Entombment will be in Highland Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Betty Louise Clark, 81, of Erlanger, died Tuesday at Village Care Center, Erlanger.

She was an office worker with Fox Paper Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Senior Citizens of Northern Kentucky.

Survivors include a sister, Jean Rolfsen of Grand Blanc, Mich.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Diocesan Children's Home, 75 Orphanage Road, Fort Mitchell, Ky. 41017.

Vivian Emma DeMoss Craft, 93, of Newport, died Wednesday at Villaspring Care Center, Erlanger.

Arrangements are pending at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.

Frank Frost, 32, of Erlanger, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.

He was a self-employed drywall installer.

Survivors include his wife, Kim Frost; his parents, Bonnie Carter of Erlanger and Frank Frost Sr. of Taylor Mill; brothers, Timmy Carter of Erlanger and Dennis Frost of Taylor Mill; and sisters, Denise Blackburn of New Richmond, Ohio, Amy Kerns and Shannon Ramirez, both of Florence, and Opel Schrichte of Covington.

Services were at noon today at Linnemann Funeral Home, Covington. Burial was in Wilmington Baptist Cemetery, Demossville.

Herman Harlow Hearn Jr., 81, of Hiwassee, Va., died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.

He was a laborer with Hercules Inc., a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Pulaski, Va., and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include sons, Herman Hearn of Hiwassee and Philip Hearn of Florence.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Baptist Church, Pulaski, Va. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Dublin, Va. Stith Funeral Home, Florence, is handling local arrangements.

Jeanine Hoskins Helton, 38, of Niceville, Fla., formerly of Covington, died Tuesday at her home.

She was an ice-cream truck driver.

Survivors include her husband, James Helton; sons, Craig Green and Steven Green, both of Niceville; daughters, Amanda Green and Savannah Helton, both of Niceville; her parents, Gertrude Emery of Latonia and Al Hoskins of Independence; a brother, Jason Hoskins of Niceville; and sister, Jamie Emery of Latonia and Lynn Thompson of Independence.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at noon Monday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Amye Mae McDonald Hornback, 87, of Tollesboro, died Wednesday at Fleming County Hospital, Flemingsburg. She was a homemaker, a minister and a member of Poplar Flats Church, Lewis County.

Her husband, Bruce Edward Hornback, died in 1992.

A son, Charles Hornback, and a daughter, Deborah Roberts, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Norma Kearns of Nicholas County and Ruth Ray of Winchester, Ohio; a son, Roy Hornback of Vanceburg; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Palmer Funeral Home, Germantown. Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery, Mays Lick.

Jenny Lee Kautz, 89, of Pikeville, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died June 16 in Pikeville.

She was formerly co-owner of Jenny & Elmer's Tavern and Yacht Club in Bromley.

Her husband, Elmer J. Kautz, died in 1977.

Survivors include a son, David W. Kautz of St. Clair Shores, Mich.; a daughter, Donna K. Kautz of Bellevue; a sister, Lena Howard of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; a grandson and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials are suggested to Kidd Haven, 339 Sandy Branch Road, Harold, Ky. 41635.

Nelson Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, handled arrangements.

Margaret C. Kearns, 87, of Florence, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was an insurance executive

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Stith Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.

Edward M. Moore, 73, of Florence, died Sunday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence.

He was a sheet metal worker with B&B; Heating Co., Covington.

Survivors include a sister, Joyce Curry of Cincinnati, and a brother, Clyde Moore of St. Mary's Ohio.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Baxter Cremation Co., Cincinnati.

Stith Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.

Alma Lea Murphy, 80, of Costa Mesa, Calif., formerly of Berry, died Sunday in Costa Mesa.

Survivors include sons, Richard E. Murphy of Quail Valley, Calif., and Donald Murphy of Costa Mesa; daughters, Linda Murphy of Costa Mesa and Jackie Richie of Felicity, Ohio; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry. Woodhead Funeral Home, Berry, is handling arrangements.

Martin "West" Peeno, 53, of Covington, died at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at his home.

He was a retired bartender and an Army veteran.

Survivors include a sister, Terry Peeno of Fort Wright; and brothers, Larry Peeno of St. Louis and Danny Peeno of Spokane, Wash.

Services will be at 8 p.m. Sunday at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Sunday. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.

Ardel Hafer Plessinger, 88, of Fort Wright, died Wednesday at Wesley Hall Care Center, Cincinnati.

Arrangements are pending at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.

Robert L. Prabel, 88, of Union, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.

He was a driver with Richter Transfer Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Teamsters Union Local No. 100, Cincinnati. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Loze Prabel, nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hebron Lutheran Cemetery.

Grace G. Leap Ruberg, 86, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Sunday in Naples.

Arrangements are pending at National Cremation Society, Naples.

Neveah Rane Smith, 4 days, daughter of Rob Smith and Tasya Kennedy, both of Covington, died Tuesday at Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati.

Other survivors include a sister, Skii Smith of Covington; grandparents, Kim Esposito of Latonia, David Battaglia of Taylor Mill, Harold and Holli Collons of Taylor Mill; and great-grandparents, William and Grace Centers of Erlanger, Laura Hunt of Crescent Springs and Sandra Denham of Covington.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.

Memorials are suggested to Neveah Rane Smith Memorial Fund, in care of Huntington Bank, 3517 Decoursey Pike, Covington, Ky. 41015; or Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cardiac Care Development Office, 3333 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45229.

Jack Stewart Whalen, 73, of Carrollton, died Sunday at Carrollton Manor.

He attended Carrollton Christian Church and Open Door Baptist Church.

There are no immediate survivors.

Services were this morning at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton.

Burial was in Worthville Cemetery.
