Johnny Johnson, model train fan

Johnny Johnson was a model train enthusiast who was so respected, he was once asked to arrange the famous Cinergy Christmas train display in downtown Cincinnati.

Mr. Johnson died Thursday at his residence in Latonia.

He was 63.

Family and work obligations prevented Mr. Johnson from setting up the Cinergy display, but they did not keep him from attending the annual model train convention every year.

"He loved going to those conventions, " said his wife, Barbara Spencer.

"They took him to New York City, Chicago, all over the country."

Mr. Johnson also attended several hobby and craft shows in the area each year.

He sold trains and painted them for other modelers.

He became interested in the trains in 1963, through a co-worker at Ohio Valley Litho in Florence and usually kept about twenty at any one time. "They became his lifelong hobby, " his wife said.

Mr. Johnson spent more than 20 years with Ohio Valley Litho as a printer.

Before he joined the company, he served in the Navy in the time between the Korean and Vietnam wars.

He was also a devoted husband and father, according to his wife, who enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his children participate in activities at Holmes High School.

In his later years he also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Johnson was a member of the Indianapolis O Scale Train Club and the Central Ohio O Scalers in Columbus.

Other survivors include his sons, Brian Scott Johnson and Rex Allen Johnson, both of Maysville; stepsons, Bill Spencer of Rockholds; stepdaughters, Mimi Spencer of Latonia and Toni Embree of Richmond; a brother, William Johnson of Covington; a stepbrother, Barry Bloemer of Ludlow; a stepsister, Jean McGlasson of Hebron; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.

Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Monday.

Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Erlanger.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219.

Marjorie Lee Bingham, 73, of Hebron, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She was a homemaker, a retired nurse's aide from Woodspoint Health Care Center, Florence, and a member of Sand Run Baptist Church, Hebron.

Her husband, Wesley Moore Bingham, and her son, David Earl Bingham, preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Brenda Garnett of Hebron, Larita Crider and Pamela Kay Robinson, both of Owenton; a brother, Charles Moore, Jr., of Summertown, Tenn.; sisters, Louise Houze of Latonia and Kathy Hensley of Ludlow; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Sand Run Cemetery, Hebron.

Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Frances M. Fritz, 70, of Maysville, died Wednesday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville.

She was a retired admissions clerk from Meadowview Regional Hospital, Maysville.

Survivors include her husband, Charles R. Fritz; sons, Russell A. Fritz of Aberdeen, Ohio, and Kelly M. Fritz of Las Vegas, Nev.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Church, Maysville.

Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at Brell & Son Funeral Home, Maysville.

Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Maysville.

Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick School, 318 Limestone St., Maysville, Ky. 41056.

Faye Kinner, 80, of Williamstown, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She was a retired factory worker from Briggs & Stratton and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Dry Ridge.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Frederick Kinner; stepsons, Jack Allen Kinner of Ashland and Paul Keith Kinner of Dry Ridge; a stepdaughter, Gamma Cherri Hatfield of Columbus, Ohio; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Dry Ridge.

Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Monday.

Mrs. Kinner will be cremated.

Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3515 Dixie Highway, Dry Ridge, Ky. 41035.

Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown, is handling the arrangements.

Debra Lynn Skodak, 53, of Alexandria, died Feb. 19 at her daughter's home in Covington. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include daughters, Deann Braden of Covington and Jennifer Carter of Alexandria; a son, Jamie Carter of Alexandria; her mother, Louise Pierce of Newport; sisters, Delores Hammons of Union and Sherry Pierce of Newport; brothers, Billy Pierce of Newport and Russell Pierce of Florence; and five grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today at Trinity Baptist Church, Newport.

A reception in the family's home will follow services. Cremation will be at Fares J. Radel Crematory, Cincinnati.

Allen "Smitty" Smith, 74, of Florence, died Thursday at the VA Hospital, Cincinnati.

He was a retired truck driver from Gateway Transportation Co., an Army veteran of the Korean War, and a member of Latonia VFW and Teamsters Local No. 100. His son, William Allen Smith, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Jeanie Elliott of Cincinnati; a brother, James Smith of Florence; a sister, Evelyn Stamper of Florence; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Allison & Rose Funeral Home, Covington.

Clarence H. Stith, 94, of Williamstown, died Sunday at Grant Manor Health Care Center, Williamstown.

He was a farmer. His wife, Ethel Race Stith, preceded him in death.

Survivors include sons, Benton Stith, Gerald Stith and Jerry Stith, all of Dry Ridge, and Larry Stith of Gardnersville; a daughter, Anna Lee Compton of Navarre, Fla.; a stepson, Wilbur Fortner of Central City; 12 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown.

Visitation was held Monday at the funeral home.

Burial was in Williamstown Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to God's Community Church, S. Main St., Williamstown, Ky. 41097; or Carter's Chapel United Methodist Church, Dry Ridge, Ky. 41035.
