Arthur Arnold, 78, active in community

"Anybody don't like this life's crazy."

That was Art Arnold's philosophy for life.

His son Michael said that even though it wasn't grammatically correct, his father would shout it out during family events, with everyone saying "cheers" in return.

"Dad was one that enjoyed being around people, " his son said. "He was one that people were attracted to."

Arthur E. Arnold, 78, of Alexandria, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

He was a retired finance manager. Beyond his career, he was an active member of the community.

Mr. Arnold was a former major with the Alexandria Fire Department and a former district commander with Lawler-Hanlon VFW Post No. 5662, Newport. He was a former city councilman, volunteer firefighter and Navy veteran.

"He was very much a volunteer all his life and very community-oriented, " his son said. "He was very satisfied with giving to others throughout his entire life."

Mr. Arnold was also a dedicated father and husband. When his sons were young he helped coach their baseball teams.

After the children grew up, Mr. Arnold and his wife, Joan, who preceded him in death in 2004, loved to travel.

His son said they took many cruises with friends and enjoyed spending time in Florida.

When the couple wasn't traveling, Mr. Arnold enjoyed reading novels and working in the yard.

In addition to his son Michael, survivors include daughters, Nancy Kehoe of Crestview and Amy Verst of Cold Spring; sons, Larry Arnold of Rex, Ga., and Jeffrey Arnold of Crescent Springs; a brother, Richard Arnold of Alexandria; a sister, Emilie Clements of Cincinnati and 12 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary Church, Alexandria. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Alexandria. Memorials are suggested to Lawler-Hanlon VFW Post No. 5662 Children's Christmas Fund, 326 W. 10th St., Newport, Ky. 41071.

Homer S. "Steve" Bailey, 73, of Venice, Fla., died Tuesday at Hospice of Cincinnati. He was an account manager with the federal government, a member of Newport Elks and an Army veteran. His wife, Thelma I. Brewer Bailey, preceded him in death.

Survivors include daughters, Rebecca K. Noertker, Mary F. Springelmeyer of Fort Mitchell, Kimberly Bailey and Edna Ellen Thompson; a son, Mike Bailey; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at T.P. White and Sons Funeral Home, Mount Washington, Ohio. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Cincinnati, 4310 Cooper Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45242.

Jonathan R. Biedenharn, of Peoria, Ill., formerly of Crittenden, died Monday at Pekin, Ill., Hospital. He was a chemical engineer and a member of All Saints Church, Walton. He was a member of the National Association of Chemical Engineers.

Survivors include his parents, Jerry and Judy Biedenharn of Crittenden; brothers, Jay Biedenharn of Crittenden and Jeff Biedenharn of Burlington; and a sister, Jody Biedenharn of Dry Ridge.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at All Saints Church. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to New Hope Family Life Center, P.O. Box 6175, Florence, Ky. 41042; or Covington Catholic High School Golf Program, 1600 Dixie Highway, Park Hills, Ky. 41011.

Sydney Donald Camper Jr., 79, of Union, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a retired businessman and owner of Georgia American Companies. His wife, Marilyn Camper, died in 2003.

Survivors include daughters, Marnie Brindley of Union and Donna Rosen of New York; sons, Sydney Donald "Trip" Camper III and Karl Camper, both of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Northern Kentucky Cremation Service. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042. Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.

Dorothy Anne Colwell, 75, of Edgewood, died at 3:40 a.m. Wednesday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, Lakeside Park. She was a member of United Methodist Women, Rebecca Bryan Boone Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, a past president of the Covington Ladies Home, Northern Kentucky Heritage League and Kenton County Historical Society. Her husband, Robert Mason Colwell, died in 1990.

Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Westendorf of Edgewood; a son, Scott Colwell of Florence; a stepdaughter, Barbara Cowherd of Crestview Hills; a stepson, Todd Colwell of Lakeside Park; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel United Methodist Church, Lakeside Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in Highlands Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Immanuel United Methodist Church, 2551 Dixie Highway, Lakeside Park, Ky. 41017.

Jean Mertes Eisenman, 75, of Fort Wright, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. She was a former cafeteria worker with Dixie Heights High School and was a member of Gateway Gals, Cincinnati.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Eisenman; sons, David Eisenman of Erlanger and Thomas Eisenman of Independence; daughters, Terry Eisenman of Florence, Julie Schwab of Edgewood and Patricia Eisenman of Fort Wright; a sister, Joann Metzger of Fort Wright; and six grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105; or Leukemia Lymphoma Society, 105 W. Fourth St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45210.

Paul Francis Gullett, 84, of Taylor Mill, died Tuesday at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.

E. Marie Hanifin, 83, of Fort Wright, died Tuesday at Rosedale Manor, Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright, and the Covington YMCA. Her husband, Dr. Thomas E. Hanifin, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Michael J. Hanifin of Fort Wright and F. Timothy Hanifin of Florence; a daughter, Patricia E. Powell of Louisville; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville. Memorials are suggested to the Kenton County Animal Shelter, 1020 Mary Laidley Drive, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41017.

Barbara Hart, 64, of Florence, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a clothing saleswoman.

Survivors include sons, Michael Hart of Florence and Pat Hart of Burlington; sisters, Carol Holbrook of Broken Arrow, Okla., Patricia Scott of Goshen, Ohio, Linda Peters of Burlington, Susan Rauth of Union, Debbie Evans of Erlanger, Jewell Biggs of Elsmere and Rose Hageman of Cincinnati; and five grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Henry Church, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to American Lung Association, 11113 Kenwood Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45242; or American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Woodrow Jones, 90, of Wilmore, died at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington. He was a truck driver with Wilson Lumber Co., a member of Warsaw Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Helen O'Connor Jones, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a sister, Fannie Courtney of Carrollton; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Wheatley Masonic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Warsaw Baptist Church, 106 W. High St., Warsaw, Ky. 41095.

Grace Evelyn McDonough, 88, of Cincinnati, died Monday at her home. She was a precision inspector with Bendix Corp. Her husband, Carlos W. McDonough, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Ken Bundy of Alexandria; stepsons, Pat McDonough of Hebron and W.E. McDonough of Little Elm, Texas; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, Melbourne. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Melbourne. Memorials are suggested to St. John's Lutheran Church, 5877 Lower Tug Fork Road, Melbourne, Ky. 41059. Alexandria Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Mary Catherine "Betty" Nuhn, of Bellevue, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a legal secretary with Arnoff Rosen and Stockdale, Cincinnati, and a member of the Bellevue Civic Association, St. Anthony Altar Society and Divine Mercy Ladies Society.

Survivors include her husband, John J. Nuhn; a daughter, Nancy Lipke of Cold Spring; and three grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Divine Mercy Church, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Campbell County Animal Shelter, 1989 Poplar Ridge Road, Melbourne, Ky. 41059. A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue, is handling arrangements.

Edward Jacob Rust, 89, of Cold Spring, died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. He was a retired postal worker with the U.S. Postal Service Cincinnati Annex, a former business manager with the Hamilton County Vegetable Growers Association, Cincinnati, and a manager with the Farmer's Market, Cincinnati. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring, the church Holy Name Society and Catholic Order of Foresters, and was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Howell Rust; a daughter, Mary Jo Schreiber of Cold Spring; sons, Kenneth J. Rust of Cold Spring, Gregory E. Rust of Butler and Harry J. Roedersheimer of Fort Thomas; sisters, Florence Wagner of Fort Thomas and Ruth Daunt of Cold Spring; a brother, Art Rust of Cold Spring; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Cold Spring. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph School Window Fund, 4011 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, Ky. 41076.

Kathleen L. "Kat" Sayers, 31, of Melbourne, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a warehouse worker at Chicago Rawhide.

Survivors include a daughter, Dominique Skylar Sayers of Silver Grove; a stepdaughter, Ashley Helton of Melbourne; brothers, Dan Kinman, Doug Kinman, Gary Kinman, Jerry Kinman, and Tim Kinman, all of Edgewood; and a fianc�, Michael Holton of Melbourne.

Services will be at noon Friday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

Nathan Weiner, 69, of Lee's Summit, Mo., formerly of Cincinnati, died Tuesday in Lee's Summit. He was a former Nutone employee and owner of a wholesale lighting company. He was a member of the Air Force Reserve.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Weiner; daughters, Debbie Vinson of Amelia, Ohio, Diane Burnside of Santa Clarita, Calif., and Natalie Curp of Greenwood, Mo.; a son, Richard Weiner of St. Peters, Mo.; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee's Summit. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lee's Summit Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Rachel House, 320 NE Tudor Road, Lee's Summit, Mo. 64086.

Ann Weber, 80, of Covington, died Sunday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington.

Survivors include a brother, Jim Weber of Bonita Springs, Fla.; and two nephews.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Charles Care Center. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill, is handling arrangements.
