Richard Louis Haas, business manager of Rockcastle Olds-Cadillac

Richard Louis Haas, a retired business manager with Rockcastle Oldsmobile-Cadillac in Florence, didn't let a disadvantage hamper his life.

Mr. Haas, 67, lost his left leg when he was 30.

But he didn't make any concessions for his loss, worked every day through good weather and bad, and made time to dote on his children and grandchildren, according to his wife of 47 years, Irene Kelly Haas.

"He was very friendly and outgoing and had a strong nature, " Mrs. Haas said.

"He was the type of person you could lean on."

Mr. Haas, of Bellevue, died at 10:15 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington.

Mr. Haas worked at Rockcastle Oldsmobile-Cadillac for about 20 years before retiring two years ago.

Mr. Haas was a Newport native and a member of St. Anthony Church in Bellevue.

Mr. Haas played basketball in high school, and his future bride said she was attracted by his good looks.

"I took one look at him at that was it. He was such a nice guy, " Mrs. Haas said.

"He was so special. He was my rock."

Other survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Wilson of Ft. Thomas; sons, Richard Haas of Aurora, Ind., and Gary Haas of Loveland, Ohio; sisters, Helen Seider of Highland Heights and Ruth Feder of Woodland Hills, Calif.; a broth er, Bernard J. Haas of Ft. Thomas; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Ft. Thomas.

Memorials are suggested to St. Anthony Church, 320 Poplar St., Bellevue 41016.

Ralph J. Bamberger Sr., 90, of Taylor Mill, died at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas.

Arrangements are pending at Connley Bros. Funeral Home, Latonia.

Deborah Sue Bellamy, 40, of Maysville, died Sunday at Columbia Hospital in Maysville. She was an insurance agent with American General Life Insurance Co., Maysville.

Survivors include a son, Michael Arnett of Maysville; her father, Willard Bellamy of Lexington; a brother, Greg Bellamy of Maysville; and a sister, Teresa Meadows of Maysville.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will be after 6 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maysville Cemetery.

Johnny H. Burgess Jr., 58, of Florence, died at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. He was a construction supervisor with Carlisle Construction Co., Wilder.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Crist Burgess; a son, John Thomas Burgess of Cave City; a daughter, Lisa R. Sands of Alpine, N.J.; a stepson, Don Maddox Jr. of Ft. Mitchell; his mother, Mayme Burgess of Dry Ridge; a sister, Betty Marshall of Williamstown; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church, Fifth and Greenup, Covington 41011.

Oscar Henry "Rick" Elizondo, 20, of Harrison County, died Sunday at University Medical Center, Lexington, of injuries suffered in an accident. He was a former employee of Payless Food Center, Cynthiana.

Survivors include his parents, Oscar S. Elizondo and Marianne Taylor Castillo of Corpus Christi, Texas; a brother, George J. Elizondo of Corpus Christi; grandmothers, Georganna Drake of Harrison County, Adela Elizondo of Mexico; and a great-grandmother, Leona Keeton of Harrison County.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Linda S. England Fukano, 45, of Covington, died at 5:58 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit in Covington. She was a cafeteria worker with Fourth District School, Covington.

Survivors include her husband, Rick Fukano Jr.; sons, Rick Fukano III, Michael Fukano and Christopher Fukano, all of Covington; a daughter, Rachel Fukano of Covington; her mother, Joan England of Independence; brothers, Dan England of Rock Island, Ill., and Dave England of Independence; a sister, Cathy Egbring of Newport; her step-grandmother, Lillian Kramer of Cincinnati; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Ft. Wright. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington 41014.

James "J. C." Hollon, 63, of Taylor Mill, died at 9:54 a.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a retired welder with Keco Co., Florence, and a member of Crescent Squares square dancers club in Crescent Springs. He was an Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Jean Hollon; sons, Dennis Hollon of Erlanger, Ronnie Crouch of Independence and Richard Crouch of Demossville; daughters, Cathy Cummins of Erlanger and Anita Green of Taylor Mill; his mother, Roxie Tolson of Erlanger; sisters, Rildateen Gahn of Crittenden and Alma Jean Davidson of Crescent Springs; and brothers, Gene Hollon of Cincinnati, Richard Tolson and Charles Tolson, both of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Robert Tolson of Warsaw; and seven grandchildren.

Services were this morning at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Burial was in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Cancer Center, 1 Medical Village Drive, Edgewood 41017.

Ella P. Mefford, 73, of Maysville, died Monday at her home. She was a machine operator with January & Wood Co., Maysville.

Survivors include her husband, Willard Mefford; a daughter, Kathy Dillon of Maysville; sons, Gene Mefford and James R. Mefford, both of Maysville; sisters, Edith Botkins and Frances Rideout, both of Maysville; and brothers, Russell O'Cull of Maysville and William O'Cull of Brooksville; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family.

Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville, is handling arrangements.

Ethel M. Morgan, 68, of Covington, died at 10:15 a.m. June 24 at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. She was a retired housekeeper with St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.

Survivors include a daughter, Gina Power of Covington; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.

Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Helen J. Schuchart, 65, of Newport, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a retired nurse's aide with Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights. Her husband, Ervin Schuchart, died in 1991.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Crank of Newport; sons, Michael Scott and Ricky Schuchart, both of Florence, Ervin Schuchart and Walter Schuchart, both of Newport; sisters, Josephine Bowling of Lansing, Tenn., Betty Moore, Dorothy Williams and Sharon Richmond, all of Newport; brothers, Anderson Bramble of Newport and Jack Bramble of Ft. Thomas; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Elza Self, 89, of West Chester, Ohio, formerly of Butler, died Tuesday at Mercy Hospital Hospice Unit, Cincinnati. He was a retired welder and a member of Eastside Disciples of Christ Church, Butler. He was a member of Pendleton County Sports men Club and an organist with Walt's Big Barn, Pendleton County.

Survivors include four step-grandchildren and many step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Thursday at Peoples Funeral Home, Butler. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Butler Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

Paul Stracener, 70, of Covington, died Friday at his home. He was the retired owner of Northstar Drywall Co., Covington. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Survivors include sons, Mark Stracener of Hebron and Mike Stracener of Alabama; daughters, Sandy Whitney of Dayton, Ohio, Shelly Stracener of Chicago and Sheryl Serguon of Forest Park, Ohio; a brother, Bud Stracener of Las Vegas; a sister, Irene Anderson of California; and seven grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rice-Union Cemetery, Union. Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere, is handling arrangements.

Jack Switzer, 45, of Burlington, died at 11:55 a.m. Tuesday at his home. He was a plumber with C. L. Newby Co., Florence.

Survivors include a son, Brian K. Switzer of Florence; his mother, Zelda Switzer of Burlington; a brother, Kevin Switzer of Inverness, Fla.; sisters, Darlene Peddicord of Burlington and Karen Dalton of Demossville; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Berean Baptist Church, Independence. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.

Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere, is handling arrangements.

William E. Timmers, 64, of Covington, died at 1:30 p.m. Monday at his home. He was a retired mechanic with Terrace Hilton Hotel, Cincinnati, and a member of the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include his wife, Fay W. Timmers of Covington; a son, William Scott Timmers of Covington; a daughter, Lisa Armstrong of Newport; stepsons, Stephen Beson of Tampa, Fla., and Robert Beson of Cincinnati; stepdaughters, Mary Henry of Philadelphia, Patti Atkisson and Noel Thesing, both of Cincinnati; sisters, Eugenia Justice of Florence, Carol Moore and Dorothy Trentkamp, both of Covington; and nine grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Augustine Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington 41014, or American Cancer Society, 7730 U.S. 42, Suite C6, Florence 41042.

Robert E. Young Sr., 83, of Cincinnati, formerly of Independence, died Friday at his home. He was a retired foreman with Jones and Laughlin Co., Cincinnati, and a retired courier with Purolator Courier, Cincinnati.

Survivors include his wife, Mary D. Young; a son, Robert E. Young Jr. of Morning View; daughters, Barbara Hines and Robin Sinex, both of Delhi, Ohio; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.
