Norma Buschelman, 64, loved to help out others

Norma J. Buschelman, longtime library assistant at Dixie Heights High School, died at 5:50 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice Unit in Covington. She was 64.

Mrs. Buschelman, of Florence, started working at the school in the mid 1970s, said her daughter, Charla Mitchen of Crestwood, who graduated from Dixie Heights.

"I was in cheerleading and band, and my mom and dad went to all the band concerts and games, " she said. They continued long after their daughter graduated, because Dixie Heights had become Mrs. Bushelman's school, too.

"She knew all the kids. She was always interested in what was going on in their lives, " Mitchen said. "She loved to socialize and talk with people. She really cared about people. She was always putting other people's cares and concerns ahead of hers."

She retired from the school library in 1998. For several years, Mrs. Buschelman volunteered at St. Paul Church in Florence. She enjoyed sewing and quilting.

She was diagnosed with cancer last spring. "She never complained, " her daughter said. "Even when she was sick, she was interested in how other people were doing, "

She and her husband, Charles, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday.
