Norma Lurene Harris, 77, Ava, Missouri, born April 25, 1931, in Ditt, Missouri, the daughter of Worden and Velma (Rice) Turley. On January 8, 1962, Lurene was united in marriage to Leon Harris.
Lurene was an extraordinary lady whose trademark was a beautiful smile and always placed everyone’s needs before her own. She was family oriented, very caring and often gave help to others, sometimes sacrificially. Her gifts of help blended into her daily connections with her loving family and friends. Lurene was a natural with raising flowers and vegetable gardens. She loved the outdoors, fishing, and sitting peacefully on the porch. Ultimately, Lurene will be remembered for her love and dedication to her family and will be missed by many.
Lurene was preceded in Cemetery, Ava.
Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 14, in the church.
John F. Childress, 83

John Franklin Childress was death by his parents, one brother, Creed and a daughter, Christina. His survivors include one son, Eddie and Jalane Childress, Warsaw; three grandchildren, Ed and Denise, Dwight and Tracy, Dewayne and Angie; five great-grandchildren, Cameron, Emily, Hailey, Seth and Maddux; and a host of relatives and friends.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 28, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Ed Childress, Eddie Childress, Dwight Ipock and Dewayne Ipock officiating.
Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Ellison born Sept. 12, 1922, in Douglas County near the Basher community. He Cemetery with military honors.
Arrangements were under the care and direction of Ava Family Funeral Home.
Neva Piland, 99

Sarah Neva Piland, daughter of Abner Abel and Millie (Harper) Abel, was passed away on Aug. 16, 2008 at Sonshine Manor in Republic, at the age of 99 years.
Neva was a resident of the Ava community for many years, moving from Ozark County. She was a homemaker. On April 26, 1927 Neva and Lloyd "Doc" Piland were united in marriage in Ava, and to this union three children were death by her parents, her husband “Doc” in 1973, six siblings, Opal Nash, Ruth Sherrill, Zella Bowles, Burl, Earl and Fred Abel.
Neva is survived by three children and their spouses, Norma and Jack Johnson, Springfield, Fae and Nuel Thomas, Thornfield, and Gerald and Mary Ellen Piland, Republic; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 2 p.m., at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Rev. Tom Johnson officiating. Cemetery. The family requests memorials to Piland Youth Camp, Mt. Lebanon Church or to Mt. Tabor Church.

Wanda Ellerine McGregor, 72, a resident of Lincoln, Ark., born March 7, 1936 at McIntosh, S.D., the daughter of Elmer and Catherine Gabel Jameson.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, Aug. 29, at 3 p.m., at the Luginbuel Chapel in Prairie Grove, Ark., with Andy Newbill officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Luginbuel Funeral Home of Prairie Grove, Ark.

Graveside funeral services for Elnora Gray Tierney, 82, were held Tuesday, Aug. 26, with Bro. Dean Preuett officiating. Burial was in the Griffith died Friday, Aug. 20, 2008, in Independence, Mo. She was married Feb. 27, 1954, in Ozark County. He preceded her in death by her husband, her parents, and one nephew.
Memorials may be made to the Griffith passed away Sept. 15.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ava Family Funeral Home.

Melvin T. Levan, 70, of Ava, departed this life Sept. 23, 2008, in Springfield.
Graveside services will be held at the Turkey Creek Cemetery today (Thursday, Sept. 25) at 10:30 a.m. No visitation is planned.
