Moses Theodore “Ted” Laughlin, son of Ernest T. Laughlin and Frances Geneva (Rose) Laughlin, was passed away on Feb. 23, 2009 at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, at the age of 65 years 2 months and 22 days.
Ted was a resident of the Ava community for several years. He was an electrical engineer for Emerson Electric in Rogers, Ark., and Ava.
Services will be Friday, Feb. 27, at 1 p.m. at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Pastor Les Hallmark officiating. Cemetery, Ava.

Harriet Mae Bennett, 89, passed from this life March 30, 2009, at Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was Cemetery, Safford, Ariz., on Friday, April 3. All arrangements are under the care and direction of Ava Family Funeral Home.
Audra Faye Stanifer, 67

Audra Faye Stanifer, daughter of the Rev. Edd and Zelma Beula (Robertson) Phipps, was born.
She was preceded in born and raised in Ava, where she graduated from Ava High School in the class of 1959. In 1973 she moved to Mansfield and worked 30 years as a sales representative for Avon. She took pride in serving all her clients and making them feel good. She also worked at the Mimosa Restaurant, and was employed with Signal Food Stores and Subway until her health began to fail a month ago.
Audra had made her profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Mansfield Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she was involved in many activities. She was also very involved in Relay for Life.
In her spare time she enjoyed watching Aaron's Fox Trotter horses and was an avid reader.
Audra was a kind and caring person with a big heart. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at Holman-Howe Chapel, Mansfield, with the Revs. Larry Scott and John Williams officiating, and Jim Crowell, eulogist.

Helga McKenney, 86

Helga McKenney, the daughter of David Tielinen and Semmi (Kokko) Tielinen, was born. She enjoyed long drives in the country, nature, lighthouses on the ocean, and was an avid New York Yankees fan. Helga was a pharmacist before her retirement.
Helga was a resident of Ava for the past four years, moving here from Long Island, N.Y.
Helga was preceded in passed away on June 12, 2009 at Boone Hospital Center.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 15, at First Christian Church in Columbia. Burial followed at 2 p.m. at Missouri State Veterans born on Nov. 1, 1919. in Cresson, Pa., to John and Nora Montgomery Sherwood and they preceded her in married on July 14, 1946 in Cresson to Ralph C. Dobbs and he survives.
For the past 44 years Sherry was a devoted member of First Christian Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and member of the Brummett-Harrah Circle of the Christian Women's Fellowship. She also served as president of the American Business Women's Association. She was a 1937 graduate of Cresson High School and a 1939 graduate of Johnstown Business School in Pennsylvania. She worked as a secretary for the Department of Defense during World War II and later for the University of Missouri. She also worked as an instructor of Business Adult Education classes and retired in 1988 from her secretarial position with the USDA Federal Crop Insurance Program.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed by many. She was an outstanding role model to her family and friends, who admired her wise and gentle way, her kind and loving spirit and her light-hearted and playful wit.
Sherry is also survived by her husband, Dr. Ralph C. Dobbs, professor emeritus of the University of Missouri; five daughters: Marilyn Schappert of Columbia; Jeanie Dobbs of Daly City, Calif.; Sherry Kaye Dobbs of Columbia; Dr. Sue Dobbs of Kansas City; Carol Kvanvig and husband, Dr. Jonathan Kvanvig of Waco, Texas; brother, Harry Sherwood, of Tallmadge, Ohio; grandchildren: CDR David Schappert and wife, Meghan of Fairfax, Va.; Phil Schappert and wife, Kathy (Toler) of Atlanta, Ga.; Jared Kvanvig and wife, Savannah (Clemons) of Columbia; Brittany Kvanvig of Waco, Texas; four great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
She was also preceded in died May 27. Funeral services and burial were June 1 in Illinois.
The church will be open at 1:30 to fellowship and reminisce her life. The service will begin at 2 o'clock with her favorite songs, and a message by Rev. Bob Huskey.
Virginia Lee Murray, 88

Virginia Lee Murray born on July 9, 1920, in Oklahoma City, to Jessie and George Drake. Her early years were spent in Oklahoma City, and as a teenager on a trip to visit relatives in California, she met the love of her life, Wayne Murray. She married life in Corcoran, Calif., where Wayne was farming.
As a young wife and mother, Virginia was active in several area organizations. She served in many capacities in the Valley Children’s Hospital Guild, Thursday Club, Westside School Mother’s Club, and the Methodist Church. She was beautiful, stylish, creative and intelligent. She loved all kinds of literature and read extensively. She and Wayne enjoyed traveling and took many road trips crisscrossing the U.S. visiting family and friends.
Virginia leaves behind her husband of 72 years, Wayne Murray; three children, Michael Murray and his wife, Brenda, Bob Murray and his wife, Katie, and Susan Ball and her husband, W. Clyde Ball, M.D.; eight grandchildren, Michelle Lewis, Kelly Reis, Melissa Schroder, Marty Murray, Rob Murray, Erin Pittock, Christina Wadsworth and Caroline Avitia.
