Claude Ralph Potter, 75

Claude Ralph Potter, the son of Earl Potter and Opal Davidson Potter, was passed away on Aug. 11, 2005, in Springfield, at the age of 75.
Claude was a resident of Bradleyville for 38 years. He was a retired machinist and had worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Ava for 28 years. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served his country in the U. S. Army. On Dec. 4, 1961, Claude and Ruthie Harnden were united in marriage in Miami, Okla. Claude was a Christian. He enjoyed singing and playing his guitar. He loved horseback riding and visiting with people and talking about history. Claude was always known to reach out to older people.
He was preceded in Interment was in the Bethel born May 19, 1925, in Douglas County and departed this life Aug. 20, 2005, at Rocky Ridge Manor in Mansfield where he had been a resident for the past five months.
On Feb. 1, 1962, he was united in marriage to Gladys Conklin by the Rev. Ernest Hamby at the Ava Courthouse. This union was blessed with a son and a daughter.
Ethmer was saved and baptized in 1964. He became an ordained deacon. He drove the church bus for several years, and was faithful to God and attended church regularly for as long as his health allowed.
He was a dairy farmer and a milk hauler for six years. He then worked at Spalding Sporting Goods in Ava until it closed. He became employed in the Ava School System and retired after 13 years of service.
Ethmer took great pride in his vegetable gardens. He especially enjoyed working in the garden with his grandchildren. He loved sharing his fruits and vegetables with family and friends.
He was preceded in Cemetery.

Philip S. Huffman, 61

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 14, in the Hartville Freewill Baptist Church under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Private burial will be in Steele Memorial Born July 28, 1933, at Mansfield, he was the son of Sherman Blaine and Anna Bennett Robertson. He death.
He served in the U.S. Army with tours of duty in Germany in the early 1950s. He retired in 1988 after serving more than 30 years as the supervisor of the shipping and maintenance departments of McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, Calif.
Jim enjoyed travel, hunting and fishing, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Wanda; two daughters, Vicki and Cari; one son, Jimmy, of the home; two stepdaughters, Debbie and Lorna; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Jean and Wes Robinson, Cusick, Wash.; two nieces; two aunts, Jessie Purtle, of Ozark, and Lela Robertson, of Ava; and numerous cousins in the Douglas County area.

Virginia Ellison Richards, 83, of Nixa, born April 13, 1922, to Homer and Dollie Phillips Ellison of Roy, Mo. Virginia married 58 years when Marshall born in 1956. She lived most of her life near Ava, Missouri on their farm until she and Marshall moved to Nixa in 1980. She had resided in Nixa the past 25 years.
She was homemaker and worked at Fashion Embroidery in St. Louis in the 1940s. She also worked at Spalding Sporting Goods in the late 1960s.
She was preceded in Cemetery in Springfield on Friday, Sept. 9, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Bruce Beline officiating. Visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home in Nixa from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Daphna J. Hathcock, 87

She was married Jan. 26, 1934. Survivors include two sons and their wives, Don and Aletta Hathcock and Leroy and Delores Hathcock, all of Springfield; and one daughter, Phyllis Hathcock, of Gainesville; six grandchildren, Jeff Hathcock and wife, Barbara, Tulsa, Okla., Diana Radke and husband, Mike, Rogersville, Timothy Hathcock and wife, Rebecca, Republic, Alan Hathcock, Springfield, Anthony Hathcock, Gainesville, and Timothy Kerr, Gainesville; three great-grandchildren, Taryn Quessenberry and husband, Josh, Devin Radke, and Eli Hathcock; one step-great-grandson, Keith Jones and wife, Heather, Norman, Okla.; one great-great-granddaughter, Kennedy Quessenberry. Daphna did child care for some 20 years in her home. She loved to piece quilts by hand and made many beautiful quilts for her family. She was preceded in Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home of Gainesville.
Irene Epps, 82

Irene Epps, 82, Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of Ozark, born May 18, 1923, at Ongo, Mo., the daughter of Austin and Eva (Howard) Wright. On April 25, 1940, she was united in marriage to John Epps at Ava, and to this union five children were death by her husband, her parents, one daughter Barbara Lee and one sister LaVerne Owens.
Irene is lovingly survived by her two sons, Tommy Epps and wife, Judy, of Runnells, Iowa, and Richard Epps and wife, Janet, of Clarksville, Tenn.; two daughters, Deanna Skubal and husband, Fred, of Valrico, Fla., and Dorothy Berube and husband, John, of Loxahatchee, Fla.; two brothers Leo Wright, of Marshfield, and Gerald Wright, of Ava; two sisters, Norma Lambert, of Moline, Ill., and Josephine Peebles of Ava; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; other caring relatives and several good friends.
Funeral services for Irene Epps were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ava, with Pastor Lyle Wright officiating. Visitation was held one hour prior to service time in the funeral home.
Burial followed in the Goodhope Cemetery, west of Ava.
