Harl was a lifelong resident of the Ava community. He owned and operated a sawmill company and worked on it all his life. Harl was a Christian and attended the Evansdale Church for many years and later in life attended the Ava General Baptist Church. Harl born. Zelma preceded in born. Daisy preceded in death in 1987. He was also preceded in Interment was in the Evans passed away at 6:30 a.m., Friday, July 18, 2008 in her home.
She was death by her stepmother, Pearl McMurry; a son, Ronald Swearengin; four sisters, Marie Riddle, Lois Copeland, Maxine Boehm and Fern Luggert; and a brother, James McMurry.
Deloris lived most of her life on the family farm where she was a dairy farmer, housewife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed quilting and other handwork which she was known to donate to the Baptist Children’s Home. She was a lifelong member of Union Chapel Baptist Church near Fordland and loved gospel music.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Ivol; a daughter, Sandy Davis and husband Mike, Rogersville; a daughter-in-law, Sue Swearengin, Overland Park, Kan.; three grandsons, Nevin Swearengin, San Diego, Calif. Nathan Swearengin and wife Rachel, Olathe, Kan. and Chris Davis and his fiancée, Lauren Kent, Kansas City; two granddaughters, Shera Cookston and husband Chris, Prineville, Ore., Tara Fisher and husband Brandon, Rogersville; five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Julia and Luke Swearengin and Kobe and Brooklynn Fisher; a brother, Raymond McMurry; a sister, Nadenna Denney and many relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 21, in Union Chapel Baptist Church under direction of J.D. Lee and Sons Funeral Home, Rogersville. Burial followed in Union Chapel born July 11, 1920, in Keytesville, Mo., and departed this life July 29, 2008, at the age of 88 years and 18 days.
On Feb. 18, 1944, Charles and Dorothea Marie Kronyak were united in marriage in Port Angeles, Wash. Charles and Dorothea were blessed with two children. Charles owned and operated a grocery store and was an entrepreneur.
Charles was a resident of Douglas County, for the past 43 years. He served his country during World War II with the U.S. Coast Guard. Charles helped lead the Democratic Committee in Douglas County for several years and later his son, Chuck took over. Charles was a member of the Mtn. Grove VFW and the American Legion.
Charles was preceded in Interment for Charles will follow in the Hurst born on Jan. 1, 1942, in Ava and departed this life on August 28, 2008 at the age of 66 years, 7 months and 27 days old.
On Aug. 17, 1963, Bobby and Connie Sue Thomas were united in marriage, and to this union two children, Joan Hampton and Billy Osburn, were death by his father, Willie Osburn.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Osburn; daughter, Joan Hampton, Taneyville; son, Billy and Susan Osburn, of Ava; and two grandchildren, Eldon and wife, Melissa, and Sheri Hampton. Other survivors include his mother, Marie Osburn, Ava; three brothers, Melvin and Pat Osburn, Ava, Gale and Wanda Osburn, Oldfield, and Ronnie and Sheila Osburn, of Rogersville; and one sister, Norene and Johnny Cline, Forsyth; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava on Tuesday Sept. 2, at 10 a.m., with the Revs. Tom Johnson and Gale Osburn officiating. Cemetery. Memorials may be made out to Seasons Hospice of Springfield.
Kenneth L. Maggard, 74

Kenneth Leon Maggard, of Hermitage, Mo., born on Punkin Creek in Douglas County, July 30, 1934, the son of Cleveland and Stella (Nelson) Maggard. Kenney grew up in western Douglas county and had many friends and family in this area.
He was born, Duane Maggard. Another son, Jeff Smith, was also raised in the home. His wife, Jeanie, preceded him in death by his parents, Cleveland and Stella Maggard; a sister, Goldie Filbeck; a brother, Hosea Maggard; and a special nephew, Ronnie Maggard.
He is survived by his boys, Duane and Jeff; four sisters, Eula Shortt, Edith Maggard, Bernice Reaves and Janet Cokley and husband, Don; and two brothers, Melvin Maggard and Edwin Maggard and wife, Pauline; several nieces, nephews and many other friends and relatives.
Services were conducted by the Rev. Lee Maggard near Pleasant Hope. Burial was in the New Bethel death has set me free.”
M. Goldene Hart, 85

M. Goldene Hart, daughter of Leonard and Myrtle (Davis) Garrison, was passed away Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, at Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare Center in Ava where family and friends had been spending time with her.
On Feb. 6, 1943, Goldene and Norman Hart were united in marriage at Mt. Zion, Mo., and this union was blessed with six children.
Goldene was a lifelong resident of the Ava area. She was an involved farm wife, an excellent cook and a gifted seamstress and enjoyed sharing her talents with family and friends.
She was of the Baptist faith and a longtime member of the Nubbin Ridge Extension Club where she greatly enjoyed her friends.
Goldene was preceded in Cemetery.

Cletis Doyne "C.D." Upshaw, 79

Cletis D. Upshaw, son of Deward Alsup and Elaine Upshaw and the adopted son of H.A. and Clara Belle Upshaw, was born to this union.
Cletis served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on March 24, 1954.
He was known as a hard worker all his life. He worked on the family farm in Douglas County and later became employed with the United States Postal Service in 1958 in Norwood as a mail carrier and retired in 1999. Following his retirement he enjoyed going to the local café and visiting with his many friends and spending time with his family.
Cletis was a kind father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him. His family and friends will miss his stories about the past and his vast knowledge of the Upshaw and Alsup families and history of Douglas County.
Besides his parents and adoptive parents, he was preceded in Cemetery with full military honors. Arrangements are under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, Missouri.
The family requests that donations be given to the Denlow Cemetery or the Three Rivers Hospice in memory of Cletis c/o the funeral home.
