Anita was a resident of the Smallett community since 1977. On Oct. 1, 1977, Anita and Byron Cory were united in marriage in Springfield. She was a registered nurse and worked in Milwaukee as a newborn nursery manager. Anita was a member of the Walnut Grove General Baptist Church. She was a lifelong caregiver to all. Anita was preceded in Cemetery with Pastor Maxine Lund officiating. Memorials may be made to the Walnut Grove Church building fund. Services were under direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Frieda L. Fletcher, 88

Frieda Larene Fletcher, 88, Ava, Missouri, born June 9, 1916, in Silver City, Iowa, the daughter of William Acie and Minnie Bell (Miller) McGill. In January of 1939, she moved with her parents to a farm south of the Smallett community.
On November 9, 1940, she was united in marriage to Cecil Fletcher in Hartville, and to this union four children were death by her parents; her husband Cecil; an infant daughter Sharon; two brothers Cleo McGill and Claude "Buck" McGill; one sister Myrtle Shoney; and one daughter-in-law Judy Fletcher.
Frieda is survived by her three sons Carl Fletcher and wife Joan, of Bois D'Arc, Donald Fletcher and wife Paulette, of Fair Grove, and Billy Fletcher, of Ava; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one additional great-grandchild expected soon; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard McGill and wife Billie Sue, of Ava; four sisters Sybil Haynes, of Springfield, Jean Daugherty, of Ava, Mary Jones and husband, Ora Lee, of Manitou, Okla., and Mabel Everett, of Ava; four sisters-in-law, Naomi McGill, of Catoosa, Okla., Novaleen Fletcher, of Springfield, Tracy Fletcher and Billy Mae McGill, both of Ava; two special friends Nadine Letsinger, of Mansfield, and Martha Stillings, of Ava; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, in the First General Baptist Church of Ava, under the care and direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ava, with Rev. Robert Roberts officiating. Mrs. Fletcher was laid to rest beside her husband, Cecil, in the Ava born. After leaving the military he entered law enforcement where he spent more than 20 years before retirement. In 1991, Al and Jan moved to Ava where he farmed and worked with the Ava Police Department for two more years before putting away his badge for good. Al remained with the Police Auxiliary until his death. Memorial services were held at 1 p.m. Friday in Clinkingbeard Chapel with Pastor Ed Williamson officiating. Services were under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home.
Gordon Lee Riffey, 83

Gordon Lee Riffey, son of Trask Riffey and Nannie Pearl Teets Riffey, was passed away on May 7, 2005, in St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, at the age of 83 years.
Gordon was a resident of the Gainesville community since 1977, moving from Bradenton, Florida. Gordon was a maintenance worker for the Baxter Hospital in Mtn. Home, Ark., for several years before retiring and earlier had worked for the Bradenton School Systems. In December of 1945, Gordon and Twila Mary Barnhart were united in marriage in Pennsylvania and to this union two children were death by his parents and two sisters.
His survivors include one son, Randy Riffey, and wife, Brenda, Gainesville; one daughter, Kathy Nolder, Springfield; four grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Cremation services were conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Vivian Irene Wheat, 88

Vivian Irene Wheat, daughter of the late Harry Virgil and Sylvia May (Dobbs) Clark, was born to this union. They made their home and raised their family on a farm in the Vanzant area in Douglas County where they lived all of their lives. They also owned and operated the Wheat’s Western Store for over 20 years. Mr. Wheat death by her step-mother, Mary; one son, Ralph Wheat; one brother, Glenn Clark; four sisters, Nellie DeSpain, Pauline Scherer, Maxine Tooley and Leona Clark.
She is survived by one son, William “Pat” Wheat and his wife, Sherry, of Vanzant; one daughter, Sylvia Hicks and her husband, Tom, of Mtn. Grove; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Wheat, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one brother, Orbin Clark, of Ozark; three sisters, Daisy Cordoza, Manteca, Calif., Violet Williams, Houston, Texas, and Sue Childers, of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Susan, Melissa, Tommy, LeAnn, Rosanna, Josiah and Beverly; one great-granddaughter, Abigail Rose; several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 11, at 10 a.m. in the Craig-Hurtt-Bradley Chapel, Mtn. Grove, with the Revs. J.D. Williams and Gail “Bud” Scherer officiating. Burial was in the Tetrick born on May 17, 1958, in Exeter, Calif., and death by his brother.
He is survived by his parents, Lawrence Call and Betty Turner Brown, both of Neosho; one daughter, Sarah Lynn Call and one son, James Call, both of the state of Oregon; four sisters, Elaine King, Ozark, Bessie Rice, Becky Kelly and Darlene Green, all of Neosho; one brother, Tom Call, state of Washington; and other relatives and friends.
Graveside memorial service will be Saturday, May 21, at 1 p.m., at the Girdner born Oct. 15, 1926, in Burleson, Texas, and born.
John attended the First General Baptist Church of Ava. He enjoyed researching and collecting arrowheads and loved hunting, fishing and working on cars and Studebakers. He loved being with his family.
He was preceded in Interment was in the Fannon born July 17, 1937, to James Matthew "Jim" Clayton and Margaret "Raye" Absher, death by his parents; two sisters, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Wolfe, 1978, Opal Beulah Riley, 2001; seven brothers, Willis Dale "Jack" Clayton, 1964, Hillis Clayton, 1994, Roland Clayton, 1974, Lonnie Clayton, 1949, Earl Clayton, John Lewis Clayton, 1995, and James Odis Clayton.
Memorial service was Friday, June 10, at Hicks born May 6, 1917, in the Sweden community and departed this life June 14, 2005, at the age of 88.
On March 27, 1953, Ruth and Robert Nation were united in marriage in Galveston, Texas. Ruth enjoyed fishing, auctions, traveling, taking care of her farm animals and her family.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters, two half brothers and three half sisters.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Nation, of the home in Ava; two sons, Jimmy Rowe and wife, Barbara, and Jerry Engle and wife, Vickie, all of Ava; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; one brother, Royal Warren, of Oregon; three sisters, May Barnett, Ozark, Hattie Frey, of Kansas and Doris Troix, of California; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, June 17, 1-6 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with cremation following service under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava. Memorials can be made to the donor’s choice.
