PALMYRA ­ Charles W. Schaeffer, 74, of Palmyra, died at 8:55 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Palmyra. The Rev. David Johnson will officiate. Burial, with military rites by the Boots Dickson Post No. 174 of the American Legion, will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra.
Mr. Schaeffer was born Sept. 26, 1926, in Palmyra to Edward J. and Lula M. Taylor Schaeffer.
Survivors include one brother, L. Edward Schaeffer of Palmyra; and one sister, Helen S. Norfolk of Palmyra.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Elizabeth S. Bross.
Mr. Schaeffer was a retired speech and English teacher who taught for 32 years. He started his teaching career in Cuba, Ill., and later taught in Shelbina, Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., and finally in Boone, Iowa. He was a 1943 graduate of Palmyra High School.
Mr. Schaeffer served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Boots Dickson Post No. 174 of the American Legion. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Memorials may be made to the Palmyra Nutrition Center, Zion Lutheran Church or Blessing Hospice Foundation.
Pallbearers will be Michael Bross, Roger W. Norfolk, Gary Schaeffer, Scott Schaeffer, Dennis Higgs and Marvin Tuley.

Arthur E. Honeycutt
Davenport, Iowa
Dec. 29, 1952 ­ Feb. 10, 2001
BETTENDORF, Iowa ­ Arthur E. Honeycutt, 48, of Davenport, Iowa, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at McGinnis, Chambers & Sass Funeral home in Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery in Davenport.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the funeral home.
Mr. Honeycutt was born Dec. 29, 1952, in Hannibal to Arthur R. and Bertha E. Lucas Honeycutt.
He was married to Cheryl Ann Buffington on Oct. 26, 1991, in Davenport. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, April Honeycutt of Phoenix; two sons, Blake and Dolan, both of the home; one stepson, Cody Spurrier of Galesburg, Ill.; his parents of Davenport; three grandchildren, Ellen, Marianna and Mario Jr; three brothers, Albert Honeycutt of Philadelphia, Mo., Alan Honeycutt and Terry Honeycutt, both of Davenport; and his grandmother, Sylvia Lucas of Emden.
Mr. Honeycutt was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Maggie Honeycutt and Henry Lucas.
Mr. Honeycutt had been employed at Block Heavy & Highway Products Co. in Blue Grass, Iowa, since 1991.
He had been a member of the Salvation Army in Davenport, and he had helped with many of the church's activities and projects.
Mr. Honeycutt was a 1971 graduate of Davenport West High School and had attended Scott Community College. He enjoyed camping and fishing.

Fred C. Cunningham Sr.
Philadelphia
March 14, 1912 - Feb. 12, 2001
PALMYRA ­ Fred C. Cunningham Sr., 88, of Philadelphia, died at 3:40 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at the Philadelphia Baptist Church in Philadelphia. The Rev. Roger Stevens will officiate. Burial will be at the Maywood Cemetery in Maywood.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra, and from 12:30 p.m. until time of services Thursday at the church.
Mr. Cunningham was born March 14, 1912, in Perry, Ill., to Frank E. and Mable Johnson Cunningham.
He was married to Pearl Tallent on Feb. 4, 1939, in Hannibal. She preceded him in death Dec. 2, 1996.
Survivors include one daughter, Mable Ann Coon of Philadelphia; four sons, Dr. George H. Cunningham of La Center, Ky., Robert L. Cunningham and Fred C. Cunningham Jr., both of Philadelphia, and Daniel M. Cunningham of Palmyra; one brother, James B. Cunningham of Lewistown; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, William E. Cunningham; one brother, Franklin E. Cunningham; and three sisters, Marie Party, Aileen Thompson and Hazel Mindock.
Mr. Cunningham was a retired farmer and mechanic. He had farmed in Marion and Lewis counties. He also owned and operated a fertilizer business in Philadelphia for several years.
He was a member of the Marion County R-II Board of Education for many years and served as board secretary and was president for several terms. He was a longtime member of National Farmers Organization, was a director of the Marion County Red Cross and was a member of the Marion County Planning and Zoning Committee from 1968 to 1998. He also served on the Farmers Home Administration Board for many years. He worked many hours to get a sewer system and rural water for Philadelphia. He was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church and served as a church trustee for several years. He also was involved in the bus ministry for many years.
Memorials may be made to the Philadelphia Community Center.
Pallbearers will be Dale L. Coon Jr., George H. Cunningham Jr., Robert L. Cunningham Jr., Travis Cunningham, Nathan Cunningham, Brady A. Fee, Shane Thompson and Benje Pryor.
Honorary pallbearers will be Walter Tuley, Tom Powell, Earl Michaels, Curly Davis, Maynard Swisher, George Walley, Jim Drebenstedt, Ronald Brunk and Bruce Gander.

Robin Wayne Fletcher
Fulton
Nov. 13, 1984 ­ Feb. 12, 2001
FULTON ­ Robin Wayne Fletcher, 16, of Fulton, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at Columbia Regional Hospital in Columbia.
Private entombment will be on Thursday, Feb. 15.
A memorial visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton.
Robin was born Nov. 13, 1984, in Jefferson City to Terry L. and Linda Diane Fallen Fletcher.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Terry and Colleen Fletcher of Fulton; one brother, Ryne Fletcher of the home; two stepsisters, Heather Murphy and Kori Murphy, both of Fulton; and his grandparents, Betty and Carl Zupan, and Erma Fletcher, all of Hannibal, and Jacque Parsons of Jefferson City.
He was preceded in death by his mother; his grandfather, Ed Fletcher; and his great-grandmother, Opal Judy.
Robin was a sophomore at Fulton High School.

William W. Bogue
Crystal City
June 10, 1918 - Feb. 5, 2002
FESTUS - William W. Bogue, 83, of Crystal City, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at his home.
Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 9, at Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus. The Rev. Richard Carter officiated. Burial was at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, in Crystal City.
Mr. Bogue was born June 10, 1918, in Hannibal to William Elmer and Ruby Inez Catron Bogue.
He was maried to Jeanelle R. Wiehe. She survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Susan Jean Willis of Festus, Janet Lynn Gentry of Joplin and Cathy Anne Gallagher of Forest Knolls, Calif.; one son, William Warren Bogue Jr. of St. Charles; a twin brother, Robert W. Bogue of Hannibal; one sister, Catherine Saunders of Shelbina; 10 grandchildren, Glenn Pikey Jr., Lesley Lynne Bogue, William Warren Bogue III, John W. Pikey, Alan Jeffrey Willis, Anna Jeanelle Willis, Michael Wiehe Gentry, Matthew Ryan Gentry, Sean Michael Gallagher and Kevin Gallagher; one step-grandson, Ronald Walden; and one great-granddaughter.
The family wishes to include as survivors, two sons-in-law, Ken Gentry and Mike Gallagher; one daughter-in-law, Sandra Bogue; one granddaughter-in-law, Cheryl Pikey; and one great-granddaughter, Taylor Pikey.
Mr. Bogue was a teacher, retired from Crystal City High School. He was a member of the Grace Presbyterian Church in Crystal City. He was a life member of VFW Post No. 3777, American Legion Post No. 253 and Eighth Air Force Historical Society. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Memorials may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church or American Heart Association.

Alfred Leo (Al) Abel
Louisiana
April 3, 1913 ­ Feb. 9, 2001
LOUISIANA ­ Alfred Leo (Al) Abel, 87, a Louisiana civic leader and co-founder of Abel Oil Co., died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Smith-Barr Manor Nursing Home in Louisiana.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Louisiana. Father Tom Waickman will officiate. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Louisiana, with a military service by American Legion Post No. 370.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana. Elks Lodge No. 791 will lead a memorial service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Abel was born April 3, 1913, in Florissant to Benjamin and Maude St. Cin Abel.
He was married to Lillian Prchal. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Allan Abel of Avon Lake, Ohio, and Gary Abel of Ketchum, Idaho; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and five sisters.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet K. Chesser; two brothers; and four sisters.
Mr. Abel leased a Shell service station at Fifth and Georgia streets in Louisiana in 1940. In 1942, he left his business to serve as an officer with the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II.
He was commended by the commanding general of the Signal Corps for originating a system for accumulating data on materials handling equipment, which saved time and paperwork. The procedure was installed in all Signal Depots in the continental United States. In 1946, he was discharged with the rank of captain. After returning to Louisiana he continued to operate the service station.
In 1951, Mr. Abel and his brothers, Raymond Abel and Charles Abel, purchased a Shell jobbership encompassing 3.5 counties in Northeast Missouri. They named the company Abel Oil Co. He retired in 1973.
Mr. Abel served on the board of directors of the Missouri Oil Jobbers Association from 1962 to 1973.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge No. 791, American Legion Post No. 370 and the VFW.
Mr. Abel had been active in the Louisiana community, where he had served as director of the Bank of Louisiana and the Industrial Development Corp. He served two terms as director of the Louisiana Chamber of Commerce.
He was a member of the Good Roads Association and the Advisory Committee on Urban Renewal. He had been vice chairman of the Louisiana Citizens Advisory Committee.
Memorials may be made to Pike County Home Health and Hospice, in care of the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Charles Chesser, Chad Chesser, Christopher Chesser, Mark Abel, Raymond Abel and Cameron Gray.

Helen M. Wissinger
Hannibal
July 26, 1911 ­ Feb. 10, 2001
HANNIBAL ­ Helen M. Wissinger, 89, of Hannibal, died at 8:10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Willow Care Center.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at Mount Olivet Cemetery Chapel. The Rev. Jan Bond will officiate.
No visitation is planned. Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Wissinger was born July 26, 1911, in Hannibal to John Roy and Jessie Calvert Rosser.
She was married to Alfred Nichoalds. He preceded her in death. She was later married to John Davis Wissinger. He also preceded her in death.
Survivors include four sisters, Eugenia Burrell or Aurora, Frances McKay, Pauline Lewis and Roberta Rosser, all of Hannibal; and three brothers, Melvin Rosser and John Roy Rosser, both of Hannibal, and Ronald Rosser of Satellite Beach, Fla.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Orville Rosser and Calvert Rosser.
The family wishes to include she is survived by several nieces and nephews; and a helpful friend and neighbor, Marion Parker.
Mrs. Wissinger was a retired supervisor with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Hannibal, where she had been employed for 37 years.
She was a longtime member of Park United Methodist Church. She also was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. She was a Hannibal High School graduate.
Memorials may be made to Park United Methodist Church.

Frank R. Smith
Salem
Sept. 26, 1927 - Jan. 31, 2002
STEELVILLE - Frank Roy Smith, 74, of rural Salem, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at his home.
Memorial services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at the Britton Funeral Home Chapel in Steelville. The Rev. Roger Silvey officiated. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
Mr. Smith was born Sept. 26, 1927, in Louisiana, Mo., to Roy Pace Smith and Nina Lura Houchin Smith Heginbottom.
He was married to Jane Anne Hancock on April 15, 1949, in Hannibal. She survives.
Other survivors include one son, Roy Douglas Smith; two grandsons, Jonathan N. Smith of the home and Corban Smith of the state of Arizona; and one granddaughter, Misty R. Smith of the home.
Mr. Smith enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a young man and served 23 years in a combination of service in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force. He served in World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War and retired as T/Sgt. Oct. 1, 1972, from Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., and retired from the Santa Fe Railroad in Wichita, Kan., in 1986.
He was a member of the Midian Shrine in Dallas, Texas, Masonic Lodge No. 593 of Union and I.O.O.F. Lodge in Washington, Mo. He was a member of the Victory Community Baptist Church of Cherryville.

Lyndelle E. Pfanner
Hunnewell
Oct. 25, 1931 - Feb. 11, 2002
MONROE CITY - Lyndelle Elaine Pfanner, 70, of rural Hunnewell, died at 2:38 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Garner Funeral Chapel in Monroe City. Father Mike Quinn will officiate. Burial will be at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Monroe City.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Pfanner was born Oct. 25, 1931, in Shelby County to Shelby and Sylvia M. Smith Shively.
She was married to Charles W. Pfanner, Sept. 24, 1952, in Monroe City. He survives.
Also surviving are her father of Hunnewell; two sons, Ed Pfanner and Bill Pfanner, both of Hunnewell; two daughters, Debra Pfanner of Monroe City and Susan West of Hunnewell; six grandchildren; one brother, Aubrey (Buddy) Shively of Hunnewell; and one sister, Carol Hays of Moberly.
She was preceded in death by her mother and one daughter, Diane Pfanner.
Mrs. Pfanner attended the Barr County School and was a graduate of Hunnewell High School.
She was a secondary operator for Intermet Inc. for the past 15 years. She and her husband also farmed and raised livestock for many years on their Shelby County farm.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Pallbearers will be Gary Harn, Steve Harn, Brad Pfanner, Larry Wood, Bob Carmen and Ray Delaporte.
Honorary pallbearers will be Emily Baker, Robert Pfanner, Rebecca Pfanner, McKenize West and Jason Baker.
