Ernestine Castella

Ernestine Castella, 79, Joplin route 6, died at 6:50 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after an illness.

Mrs. Castella was born Oct. 16, 1917, in the state of Missouri. She was a registered nurse and worked at St. John's for many years. She attended a Christian church. She was a graduate of Carterville High School and St. John's School of Nursing.

Her husband, LeRoy Wasson, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Gary Wasson, Chesapeake, Va.; and three grandchildren.

Services are pending with Mason-Woodard Mortuary.

Iola Christman

Iola Berends Christman, 84, Joplin, died at 2:16 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center after a long illness.

Mrs. Christman was born Feb. 9, 1913, at Gate, Okla. She had lived in Joplin since 1948. She had been a salesclerk for Ken Reynolds Pharmacy, May's Drug Store and Sears, retiring in 1970. She was a member of Westside Christian Church.

She married Roy D. Christman on March 6, 1929, at Lyons, Kan. He died Jan. 11, 1991.

There are no immediate survivors.

Arrangements are pending with Parker Mortuary, Joplin.

Patricia Fowks

Patricia Ann Fowks, 64, Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Joplin, died at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 1997, at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, after an illness.

Miss Fowks was born March 2, 1932, at Joplin. She had lived most of her life at Aspen, Colo., and Kansas City. She attended St. Teresa's College, Kansas City. She worked for George Butler and Associates, Kansas City, for many years.

She was a member of Visitation Catholic Church, Kansas City, The Friends of Art and the Kansas City Ski Club, both of Kansas City.

Survivors include two brothers, Mike Fowks and Bill Fowks, both of Joplin.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Visitation Catholic Church. The body will be cremated. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Webb City.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Newcomer's Overland Park Chapel, Overland Park, Kan.

Contributions may be made to Visitation Catholic Church.

Verna Parrigon

Verna Ann Parrigon, 90, Joplin, a former Sarcoxie resident, died at 3:15 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center after two years of ill health.

Mrs. Parrigon was born July 15, 1906, at Canehill, Ark. She had lived most of her life in the Wentworth and Sarcoxie areas. She moved to Joplin two years ago. She was a homemaker and a Methodist.

She married Charlie Parrigon on Dec. 10, 1928, at Fayetteville, Ark. He died June 17, 1967.

Survivors include two sons, Bill Parrigon, Monett, and Charles Parrigon, Jacksonville, Ore.; two daughters, Sarah Brummett, Diamond, and Ida Mae White, Forsyth; a brother, Kenneth Pennel, Springdale, Ark.; two sisters, Tina Potars, Noel, and Trennie Roy, Joplin; 26 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Sarcoxie (Mo.) Cemetery. The Rev. Rick Fulton will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Housh Funeral Home, Sarcoxie.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Josie Whitaker

Josie Colleen Whitaker, infant daughter of Lee Roy Whitaker and Christina Jo Toney, both of Joplin, died at birth at 9:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 1997, at Freeman Hospital West.

In addition to the parents, survivors include maternal grandparents, Bill and Ann Toney, Galena, Kan., and Diana Alleshouse, Galena route 2; paternal grandmother, Annie George, Marianna, Ark.; maternal great-grandparents, Colleen Harshman, Galena route 2, and Bill and Dixie Toney, Panama, Okla.; and paternal great-grandfather, Freddie Bryant, Helena, Ark.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Lowell (Kan.) Cemetery. The Rev. Bob King will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena.

Basil Bowman

STOTTS CITY, Mo. - The Rev. Basil E. Bowman, 78, Stotts City, died at 11:15 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 1997, at an Aurora nursing home after a short illness.

Mr. Bowman was born June 23, 1918, at Stotts City. He graduated with bachelor of science and seminary degrees from Southwest Missouri State University.

He taught six years at Union School, Stotts City, and worked for 37 years for Mid-Am Dairy as a field man. He also was a pastor for 27 years at Arcola, Everton and Stotts City. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Stotts City.

He married Pansy Harrow on Nov. 14, 1936, at Columbus, Kan. She survives.

Additional survivors include one son, Robert Bowman, Fort Gibson, Okla.; five daughters, Marceline Schnake, Arlene Roethemeier, Allene White and Maxine Williams, all of Stotts City, and Mary Heidlage, Sarcoxie; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Stotts City First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Moore Cemetery, near Stotts City.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Lakin Funeral Chapel, Stotts City.

Everett Bradford Jr.

SELIGMAN, Mo. - Everett W. Bradford Jr., 75, died at 9:35 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 1997, at McCune-Brooks Hospital, Carthage, after a long illness.

Mr. Bradford was born Jan. 3, 1922, at Eagle Rock, Mo. He graduated from Seligman High School in 1941. He was self-employed and did construction work in Seligman for several years. He retired from Fasco Industries in 1987 after 12 years of service. He was a member of the Seligman City Council for several years and was the mayor of Seligman. He was a charter member of the Lions' Club and served on the Southwest R-4 School Board for several years.

He married Mary Parker on Jan. 8, 1943, at Springfield. She survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Jerry Leon Bradford, Bentonville, Ark.; three brothers, Norris L. Bradford, Lake Charles, La., Maurice E. Bradford, Pikeville, N.C., and Kenneth Bradford, Queen City, Texas; a sister, Marjorie Bagwell, Cassville; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services will at 2 p.m. Monday at Williamson Funeral Home, Cassville, with the Rev. Bob Scott officiating. Burial will be in the New Salem Cemetery, Seligman.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Muscular Dystrophy Association, in care of the funeral home.
