Ted Koontz

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. - Ted Koontz, 86, Hume, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, in an Ozark nursing home after an illness. He was the father of Anna Kaye Hill, Carl Junction.

Mr. Koontz was born Sept. 20, 1910, at Ballard. He moved to Butler, where he was graduated from high school in 1929. He worked in several drug stores in Butler and Kansas City. He opened a Phillips 66 service station in 1941 in Butler. He opened a Rexall Drug Store in 1952 in Hume. He retired in 1985.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of the American Legion and was a president of the Hume Chamber of Commerce for many years.

Surviving are his wife, Edith; a son, Teddy Koontz, Ozark; another daughter, Phyllis G. McCulley, Pineville; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel, Butler. Brother Randy Wells will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to the restoration of Butler High School or to McGennis Youth Center.

Delmer McCullough

NEOSHO, Mo. - Delmer Charles McCullough, 68, 1317 Carlie St., died at 6:55 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 1997, at Freeman Neosho Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Mr. McCullough was born Nov. 6, 1928, at Neosho, and was a lifelong resident. He worked for Southwest Lime Co. for 16 years. He then worked for the city of Neosho as a heavy equipment operator until he retired Nov. 6, 1990.

He married Jennie Gray on May 22, 1952, at Neosho. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Janie Kunce, Beaumont, Calif., and Tammy Haase, Neosho; a sister, Edith Arnett, Anderson; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Gibson Cemetery under the direction of Clark Funeral Home. The Rev. Malcolm Mosby will officiate.

Russell Palmer

SARCOXIE, Mo. - Graveside services for Russell J. Palmer, 83, Sarcoxie, who died Saturday, Feb. 15, 1997, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997, at Sarcoxie Cemetery.

The Rev. Michael Henderson will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of House Funeral Home, Sarcoxie.

Kathleen Speer

CASSVILLE, Mo. - Kathleen Jewel Speer, 74, Cassville, died at 5 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 1997, at a Cassville nursing home after a long illness.

Mrs. Speer was born July 25, 1922, at the Mineral Springs community near Cassville. She was graduated from Cassville High School in 1940. She was a Selective Service Office clerk. She was a 20-year secretary for the local Willis Insurance Agency. She served as Cassville city collector from April 1989 until she retired in 1995. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Cassville, where she served as secretary from 1956 to 1963.

She married Harlow Speer on Dec. 15, 1941, at Monett. He survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Gary Speer, Springfield; a brother, Mervin "Shorty" McCluer, Cassville; a sister, Marie Ryan, Springdale, Ark.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Williamson Funeral Home, Cassville. The Rev. John Duncan will officiate. Burial will be in Mineral Springs Cemetery, Cassville.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to First Baptist Church's building fund or Quality Home Health & Hospice, in care of the funeral home.

Eairl Stockton

CASSVILLE, Mo. - Eairl Billie Stockton, 79, Cassville, died at 2:25 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997 at South Barry County Hospital in Cassville after a short illness.

Mr. Stockton was born May 9, 1917 in Barry County. He attended Barry County schools and was a lifelong area resident. He was a cattle farmer and had worked for several years as a rural mail carrier and for the MFA Exchange in Cassville. He attended Union Chapel Church near Cassville.

He married Louise Bishop on Aug. 31, 1940 in Cassville. She survives.

Also surviving is a daughter, Vera Smith, Aurora; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997 at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. The Rev. Jerry Nickle will officiate. Burial will be at Clio Cemetery in Jenkins.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Onis Washam

MILLER, Mo. - Onis Ray "Runt" Washam, 77, Springfield, a Miller native, died at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, at his home after a long illness.

Mr. Washam was born May 21, 1919, at Miller. He moved to Springfield in 1959. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired carpenter.He was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, Springfield, and Southwest Model A Club.

He married Billie Jean Parnell on August 10, 1946, at Miller. She died April 29, 1986.

Surviving are two daughters, Michaela Ray, Republic, and Pat Garrison, Springfield; a brother, Bill Washam, Belton; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Morris Leiman Mosher Funeral Home, Miller. The Rev. Charles Mattix will officiate. Burial will be in Sycamore Cemetery, northeast of Miller.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. today at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

Contributions may be made to Hospice of Southwest Missouri, in care of the funeral home.

Charles Zartman

NEVADA, Mo. - Charles Henry Zartman, 89, Nevada, died Tuesday night, Feb. 18, 1997, at a local nursing home after a short illness.

Mr. Zartman was born Nov. 6, 1907, at Virgil City. He spent most of his life in Vernon County. He was a farmer near the border of Vernon and Cedar counties. He moved to Nevada in 1977. He was a member of the local Seventh Day Adventist Church.

He married Anna Hlavacek on Feb. 8, 1928, at El Dorado Springs. She died Oct. 17, 1987.

Survivors include a son, Howard Zartman, Wildwood, Fla.; a sister, Anna Peters, El Dorado Springs; five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a son.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Randy Wells, minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Virgil City Cemetery.

Friends may call until service time at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
