Virginia Parkison

LIBERAL, Mo. - Virginia M. Parkison, 73, Liberal, died at 10:07 a.m. Monday, March 24, 1997, at Barton County Memorial Hospital, Lamar, after a long illness.

Mrs. Parkison was born Nov. 26, 1923, in Barton County.

She had been a life-long resident.

She retired as vice president of Barton County State Bank.

She worked at State Bank for 32 years.

She was a member of First Christian Church, Lamar.

She was a member of Golden Ambassador Class at the church.

She was also a member of Friendly Circle Club, Mindenmines.

She married Herbert Parkison on Aug. 26, 1945, at Girard, Kan. He survives.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Sonja Bornheimer, Belton; a brother, Roy Frieden, Wheatfield, Ind.; a sister, Arlene Gastel, Nevada; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar.

Doug Oakes, minister, will officiate.

Burial will be in Lake Cemetery, Lamar.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Gladys Platt

NEOSHO, Mo. - Gladys Lorene Platt, 84, Tampa, Fla., formerly of Neosho, died at 6 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 1997, at a Tampa nursing home after a long illness.

Mrs. Platt was born March 31, 1912, at Seligman.

She also had lived at Monark Springs and Tulsa, Okla.

She worked for many years in the drapery department at J.C. Penney, Neosho.

She had worked as a cook at Crowder College.

She was a licensed practical nurse and worked for 14 years at the former Sale Hospital, Neosho, now Freeman Neosho Hospital. She retired in 1971.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Neosho, and First Baptist Church, Tampa.

She married George Leland Platt on Feb. 18, 1932. He died Aug. 17, 1977.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Robe, Tampa, and Margaret Ann Street, Tulsa; four sisters, Mabel Gregory, Victoria, Texas, Hazel Matthews, Arkansas City, Kan., and Helen Barlow and Ruth Matthews, both of Neosho; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Neosho, with the Rev. Todd Decker officiating.

Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Neosho.

A memorial service will be at a later date at Tampa.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.

Dale Saville

STARK CITY, Mo. - Dale Carlisle Saville, 78, Stark City, died at 5:10 a.m. Monday, March, 24, 1997, at a Neosho nursing home after a two-year illness.

Mr. Saville was born May 20, 1918, at York, Neb.

He moved to Missouri in the early 1940s.

He delivered milk door-to-door in Joplin before buying a dairy farm.

He served on the board of directors of Farmers Co-op, Stark City, during the 1960s.

He also served on the board of directors of Farm Bureau for 20 years.

He married Jessie V. Maloney on May 28, 1941. She survives.

Additional survivors include a sister, Mabelle Lentz, Humansville.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.

The Rev. Larry Neil will officiate.

Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Neosho.

Pallbearers will be Gene Grissom, Jim Lewis, Ralph Buckner, Troy Carterman, George Carney and Bill Arwood.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, in care of the funeral home.

John Scharrer

LIBERAL, Mo. - John A. Scharrer, 48, Liberal, died at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 1997, at his home after a long illness.

Mr. Scharrer was born December 14, 1948 at Colorado Springs, Colo.

He had lived at Liberal for five years.

He was a truck driver for Fleming-Babcock Inc. at Riverside for 17 years.

He was a member of Hannon Free Will Baptist Church, north of Liberal.

He married Kim R. Smith on Feb. 1, 1986 at Topeka, Kan. She survives.

Additional survivors include three sons, Christopher Scharrer and Dylan Scharrer, both of the home, and Scott Scharrer, Kansas City; and a daughter, Melinda "Mindy" Scharrer, of the home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hannon Free Will Baptist Church.

The Rev. George Nauman and the Rev. Bob Dickey will officiate.

Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Topeka, Kan.

The family will receive friends at their home, 302 S. Wilson, Liberal.

Pallbearers will be Scott Scharrer, Loren Page, Kevin Smith, Keith Smith, Bill Knox and Virgil Adams.

Contributions may be made to the Keith Worthington Chapter of the Amyotorphic Lateral Sclerosis Association, in care of the funeral home.

Hilda Schoen

PIERCE CITY, Mo. - Hilda Anna Schoen, 88, Pierce City route 1, died at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 1997, at Missouri Rehabilitation Center, Mount Vernon, after a long illness.

Mrs. Schoen was born March 20, 1909, at Freistatt.

She lived most of her life in the Pierce City and Freistatt areas.

She retired in 1985 after 16 at Tyson's Food Processing, Monett.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Freistatt.

She married Gerhard P. Schoen on Feb. 16, 1933, at Friestatt. He died Dec. 12, 1968.

Survivors include a daughter, Lois Kaiser, Pierce City; a brother, Erhard Osterloh, Monett; a sister, Erna Doennig, Monett; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Freistatt.

The Rev. Keith Christiansen will officiate.

Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.

Contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Ted Weidman

LAMAR, Mo. - Chester C. "Ted" Weidman, 91, Lamar, died at 4:45 p.m. Monday, March 24, 1997, at his home, after a long illness.

Mr. Weidman was born July 7, 1905, at Lamar.

He was a truck driver for Complete Auto Transit of St. Louis for many years.

He was a member of the Teamsters union.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lamar.

His wife, Ila Turner, died in July 1971.

He married Cecilia Steiner on May 10, 1980, at Morrison. She survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Richard Weidman, Hazelwood; a daughter, Vera Langeneckert, Florissant; seven stepsons, Leo Steiner, Wright City, Jim Steiner, Warrenton, Carl Steiner, Jefferson City, Fred Steiner, state of Hawaii, and Cecil Steiner, Harold Steiner, and John Steiner, all of Herman; a sister, Alvira Glaze, Lamar; three grandchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and seven great-step-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church.

The Rev. Thomas Allen will officiate. Burial will be in Lake Cemetery.

Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lohmeyer-Konantz Funeral Home.

Contributions may be made to American Lung Association.

James Colvin

James Eugene Colvin, 77, Springfield, formerly of Joplin, died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 1997, at a Springfield nursing home of apparent natural causes.

Mr. Colvin was born Jan. 5, 1920, at Sedalia.

He owned and operated a Sealtest Foods distributorship for many years at Joplin.

He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Springfield.

Survivors include his wife, the former Juanita Dailey; two daughters, Sandra Marie Hight, Springfield, and Gloria Gene Downing, Joplin.; a son, David
Eugene Colvin, Springfield; two sisters, Hazel Brown, Sun City, Ariz., and June Spahr, Shell Knob; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, Springfield.

Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery, Springfield.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
