Horace Eugene McCaig

Horace Eugene “Gene” McCaig, 68, of Byhalia, formerly of West Memphis, Ark., and Mountain View, Ark., died Feb. 27, 2012. He was the retired owner of Gene’s Pro Automotive.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on March 1 at Magnolia Cemetery in Collierville, Tenn. Collierville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife Linda; a daughter, Debbie Jeffords (Henry); two brothers, Chet McCaig (Carole), Mike McCaig; a sister, Elsie M. Culpepper, and two grandchildren.

Emma Marie Osler

Emma Marie Osler, 58, of Michigan City, died Feb. 17, 2012.

Services were held at 12 noon on Feb. 25 at Palestine MB Church in Michigan City, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Elder Tyrrell Osler was eulogist, Rev. James Williams, pastor. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves four children, Tyrell (Angie) Osler of Ft. Hood, Tx., Wynette (Walter) Williams, Patrice (Willie) Williams, Louis (Roshell) Jackson, all of Michigan City and Ashland; seven siblings, Betty Jean Osler of Chicago, Ill., Robet Osler of Memphis, Tenn., Mary Osler, Eather Osler Jr., Jerry Osler, Martha Sue Osler (Hudson), and Milton Osler of Benton Harbor, Mich.; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Doreatha Osler, Lucy Olser Green, and Buster Lou Osler Braddock, as well as other siblings.

Pallbearers were Walter Williams, Willie B. Williams, Louis Jackson, Ben Anderson, Doug Green, Tyrrell Osler. Honorary pallbearers were Alwontoe Smith, Larry Jackson Jr. and Terrance Jackson.

Lonnie Cullen Day Jr.

Lonnie Cullen Day Jr., (Sug), 75, of Pensacola, Fla., died December 20, 2012, at his home. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1958 as an air traffic controlman, retiring honorably as a chief petty officer in 1977. Following his military career, he pursued a private pilot license and flew as a private charter pilot and later a flight instructor out of Pensacola Aeromotive. He worked as an FAA air traffic controller at the Pensacola Regional Airport. Later, he served as a federal air traffic controller for the U.S. Navy Blue Angels flight demonstration team at Sherman Field, were he retired from civil service.

Services were held Dec. 28 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North, Cantonment, Fla. Burial was in National Cemetery.

He leaves his wife of 55 years, Margie Wylena Smith Day; two children, Cynthia Anne Almand (Blake), and Steven Lonnie Day (Clay); two sisters, Alta Faye Lawrence, and Kathleen Bowman; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

James Zell Falkner

James Zell Falkner, 70, of Byhalia, died Dec. 27, 2012 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven. He was a member of Strickland United Methodist Church in Byhalia and a retired factory worker.

Visitation will be Jan. 4, 2-6 p.m., at the funeral home and Jan. 5 at the church from 10-10:55 a.m.

Services will be held at Union Valley MB Church in Byhalia on Jan. 5 at 11 a.m. with burial in Strickland UMC Cemetery. Rev. O.B. Clark will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Willie Mae Rayford Falkner; three daughters, Coretta Craine of Holly Springs, Rose Falkner of Cordova, Tenn., Josephine Falkner of Olive Branch; two sons, Roosevelt Falkner of Byhalia, Earl Falkner of Aurora, Ill.; his father, Perry Falkner of Holly Springs; two brothers, Lacy Falkner of Holly Springs, J.B. Falkner of Byhalia; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, John L. Falkner.

William (Bill) Lewis

William (Bill) Lewis, 73, of Senatobia, died Dec. 29, 2012 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. A Methodist, he was retired from John Deere.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 1 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Hinds Chapel Cemetery in Walls.

He leaves his wife, Joanne Carpenter Lewis, a son, William Edward Lewis Jr. of Horn Lake; two daughters, Donna K. Phillips of Horn Lake, Jennifer Lynn Lewis of Walls; two brothers, Walter Don Lewis of Phoenix, Ariz., and James Ross Lewis of Memphis, Tenn.

Luella Maxwell

Luella Maxwell, 63, of Tunica, formerly of Holly Springs, died December 26, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto, Southaven. She was a member of Greater New St. Paul Free Will Baptist Church, a church mother and member of Heroines of Jericho. She was a retired school teacher from Holly Springs High School.

Services will be held January 5, 11 a.m., at Greater New St. Paul Free Will Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor C.L. Harris Jr. will officiate. The remains will lie in repose at J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home, who is in charge of arrangements, on Friday, January 4, 2-6 p.m.; and at the church on Saturday, 10-10:55 a.m.

She leaves her husband R.J. Wilson; three children, Leroy Maxwell Jr. of Memphis, Tenn., David R. Maxwell of Dallas, Texas, and Kenneth O. Maxwell of Holly Springs; three step-children, Rhonda J. Wilson, Roenia Britney and Thersa Watts, all of Kansas City, Mo.; eight sisters, Willie Covington of St. Paul, Minn., Lillie Runnels of Tunica, Elizabeth Jones of Red Banks, Earnestine Blair of Holly Springs, Cora Carter of Vicksburg, Jessie Upshire of Byram, Emma Walker of Vicksburg; one brother, James Carter of Vicksburg; four grandchildren.

Melissa Ann Nesmith

Melissa Ann Nesmith, 41, died December 24, 2012, at her home in Byhalia. She was a member of Heritage Apostolic Church and a shop manager for Steiner Plastics.

Services were held December 28, 2 p.m. at Holly Springs Funeral Home. Bro. Tony Roberts officiated. Burial was in Byhalia Cemetery.

She leaves her husband, William Winston Nesmith; one son, William Nesmith (Amanda) of Byhalia; two daughters, Kimberly Taylor (Neil), and Shannon Nesmith, both of Byhalia; her mother, Linda Brents of Byhalia; her father, James Parker (Peggy), of Watson; one brother, Mark Mills, of Ashland; three sisters, Tammy Spencer of Selmer, Tenn., Pam Wade and Jennifer Allen, both of Holly Springs; and three grandchildren.

Lorette Bagwell Overall

Lorette Bagwell Overall, 65, of Potts Camp, died December 23, 2012, in Little Rock, Ark. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Potts Camp, a teacher and librarian.

Services were held December 27 at First Baptist Church of Potts Camp at 2 p.m. Bro. Paul Hicks, Bro. Jim Buchanan and Bro. Chuck Fowler officiated. Burial was in Potts Camp Cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Edward L. Overall; two daughters, Kim Rhea (Jeff), of Red Banks, and Lee Anne Overall of Washington, D.C.; four brothers, Thomas Bagwell and Joe Bagwell, both of Myrtle, Ricky Bagwell of New Albany, and Gerald Bagwell of Ripley; three sisters, Mildred Tubbs of Memphis, Tenn., Louise Smith of Oakland, Tenn., Robbie Faye Wolfe of Corinth; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Kelly Wilson.
