Jason Marrio Smith

Jason Marrio Smith, 33, of Potts Camp, died April 3, 2007 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. He was a 1992 graduate of Bishop Byrne High School in Memphis, Tenn., and a supervisor with Hunter Fan in Byhalia.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 7 at St. Paul CME Church. Burial was Charity Hill Cemetery in Lake Center. Rev. Michael Adams officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his mother and father, Delois V. Smith and Wayne Wilbourn of Sardis; a daughter, T’yla Smith of Sardis; a son, Jayson Smith of Holly Springs; his grandmother, Arristine Smith of Holly Springs; two sisters, Jantre Smith of Hot Springs, Ark., Joya Wilbourn of Sardis; two brothers, Javian Smith, Jarvis Smith, both of Holly Springs.

Pallbearers were Sylvester Stinson Jr., Colby Bogard, Eric Zinn, Wayne Tate, Lamarcus Bulloch and James Lockett. Honorary pallbearers were Jacobye Davis, Jachristina Davis, Ronald Smith Jr., Antoine McNeil, Mozell Hampton, Korbin Smith, Garrison Adams, Rashad Smith, Michael McNeil and Adam Malone.

Oga Lee Crumb Ware

Oga Lee Crumb Ware, 92, of Holly Springs, died March 31, 2007 at her home. She was the widow of Chester Ware, a retired domestic worker in private homes and a church choir member.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on April 2 at Hopewell No. 2 MB Church in Hudsonville, where she was a member. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. Mark Bryson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a daughter, Dorothy Crumb of Holly Springs; a son, Joe William Crumb of Chicago, Ill.; three sisters, Mary Shead of Maywood, Ill., Elizabeth Brown of Holly Springs, Bessie Bryson of Slayden; two brothers, Joe Crumb of Memphis, Tenn., Alvertis Crumb of Collierville, Tenn.; 21 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by children Ruben Crumb, Charles Edward Crumb, Shepard Crumb and Betty Jean Brown.

Pallbearers were Anthony Crumb, Kenny Bragg, Maurice Crumb, Tyrone Crumb, Danny Crumb and Wendell Brown. Honorary pallbearers were Alvertis Crumb, Joe Crumb, Bobby Crumb, Mandy Stone Jr., Fred Crumb, Lonnie Beard, Clifton Crumb, Eric Crumb and Clifton Jackson.

Lucius Brown

Lucius Brown, 71, of Byhalia, died March 27, 2007 at Baptist Hospital Desoto-Southaven. He was an independent contractor with Ted Brown Construction.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on March 31 at St. Matthews Baptist Church in Byhalia, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Patrick Stewart, pastor, officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Bertha Blanton Brown; four sons, Timmy Brown of Byhalia, Kevin Brown of Cordova, Tenn., Murve Clayton of Memphis, Tenn., Curtis James Freeman of Collierville, Tenn.; two daughters, Debra Bennett of Cordova, Tenn., Daphane Brown of Byhalia; a brother, Johnny Lee Brown of Collierville, Tenn.; two sisters, Josephine Tunstall of Byhalia, Rosie Lee Macon of Starkville; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Brown.

Virginia Coffey

Virginia Coffey, 69, of Holly Springs, died March 28, 2007 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab. She was a Christian and a bartender with Grand Casino Tunica.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on April 3 at Bauxite Cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband of 52 years, Joseph Coffey; a daughter, Jolee Brewer of Senatobia; and her mother, Dorothy Tindall of Senatobia.

Edward DeBerry

Edward DeBerry, 73, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died March 23, 2007 at his home. He was the widower of Bea DeBerry. He was a member of Hamilton Heights Community Club, a church usher, a school mentor at Humes, Ark., School System to help keep kids out of trouble and self-employed with construction company E.B.T. DeBerry Enterprises.

Services were held at 11:30 a.m. on March 30 at New Hope CME Church in Holly Springs, where he was a member. Burial was in Davis-Stanback Memorial Garden in Byhalia. Rev. Robert J. Matthews officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves a daughter, Dr. Tommie DeBerry-Davis of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Giles DeBerry Jr. of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and a grandson, Autumn Shemar Beaedward Thomas of Memphis, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Katie Jones.

Pallbearers were D. Ross, Earnest Cunningham, Johnny Payne, Jimmy L. Payne, Maurice Davis and Guy Gipson. Honorary pallbearers were Vis Davis, Joe Davis and Ellix Payne.

Michelle Renee Holbrook

Michelle Renee Holbrook, 34, of Holly Springs, died March 27, 2007 at her home. She was a teacher assistant at Victory Life Christian Academy in New Albany where she drove the church bus.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on March 30 at Heritage Apostolic Church, where she was a member. Burial was in Hill Crest. Bro. Tony Roberts, Bro. G.R. Travis and Bro. Jeff Jones officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Jeff Holbrook; a daughter, Ashley Marie Holbrook of Holly Springs; a son, Justin Tyler Holbrook of Holly Springs; her father, Michael Chabrison of Charlotte, Ark.; Kathryn Rottenberk Cale of Ozark, Ark.; two sisters, Laura Chabrison of North Little Rock, Ark., Nicole Chabrison of Ft. Smith, Ark.

Pallbearers were Jim Summerlin, Jonathan Moore, Ben Ivester, James Richmond, Rodney Crane, Don Buford, Lexter Mull and Tracy Jeffries.

Bonnie Lou Powell

Bonnie Lou Powell, 56, of Byhalia, died March 30, 2007 at Alliance HealthCare System.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on April 2 at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Carey Chapel Cemetery in Byhalia. Rev. Richard Boyington officiated.

She leaves two daughters, Mary Jo Dees of Byhalia, Brenda Lynn Miller of Barton; four brothers, Joe Allen Stone of Houston, Tracy Walker, Roy Walker, Tom Stone, all of Potts Camp; three sisters, Mary Sullivan of Holly Springs, Elizabeth Dees of Byhalia, Brenda Burnett of Ashland; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Walker.

Pallbearers were Bobby Hymans, Bradley Bryant, Ronnie Sullivan, Dylan Sullivan, Ralph Harmon and Adam Walker.

Velma King Phillips

Velma King Phillips, 89, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died March 24, 2007 at her daughter’s home in Murfreesboro. She was the widow of Joseph Phillips, a member of the church mother board, a deaconess and a choir member.

Services were held at 12 noon on March 31 at Chulahoma MB Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. John E. Booker officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two daughters, Quine C. Shaw of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Marce L. Armstrong of Aurora, Ill.; four sons, Joseph Curtis Phillips, Charles Richard Phillips, Hase Edward Phillips, Morris Alvin Phillips, all of Aurora, Ill.; a sister, Zettie B. Ware of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, LaThurmon Jones of Chicago, Ill.; 25 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Linwood King.

Pallbearers were Michael J.R. Armstrong, Gaylon L. LeSure, Gregory Phillips, Anthony (Tony) Phillips, Maurice Phillips, Tamar Phillips, Barry King, Anthony (Tony) Faulkner and Frank H. Phillips. Honorary pallbearers were James Earl Faulkner, Ben E. Phillips, Paul Phillips, Landers Griffin, Ierlin Phillips, Lin T. Elliott, Gregory Turner, James (B.B.) Griffin, Marcus Faulk and John Rogers Phillips.
