Clara Scruggs Puckett

Clara Scruggs Puckett, 81, of Walls, died April 1, 2007 at Desoto Healthcare. She attended school at Collierville, lived most of her life in Marshall and Desoto counties, and worked at Pretti Bro. Big Star in Hernando, also G.E. Plant and Kimberly Clark in Memphis. She was a member of Eastern Star Hernando Chapter, and a member of Grays Creek Baptist Church.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 4 at Hernando Funeral Home. Burial was in Early Grove Cemetery in Lamar.

She leaves two children, Barbara Waddell of Southaven, W.R. Gandy Jr. of Potts Camp; a brother, Paul Hunsucker of Hickory Flat; three sisters, Mary Slaten of Hernando, Margaret Anglin of Olive Branch, Frances Henderson of Fayetteville, Tenn.; caretaker Randy and Lisa Carmody of Walls; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Any memorials can be made to St. Jude Children Research Hospital.

Annie Louise Blackard

Annie Louise Blackard, 84, of Byhalia, died March 18, 2007 at Trinity Mission. She was the widow of Luther G. Blackard and a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on March 21 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery in Collierville, Tenn.

She leaves three sons, Bobby Glenn Blackard, Raymond Blackard, both of Bolivar, Tenn., Robert Wayne Blackard of Byhalia; three daughters, Donnie Sue Beesinger of Collierville, Tenn., Betty Devore, Patricia Crouch, both of Byhalia; 28 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Blackard; four grandchildren and a daughter, Linda Paulette Blackard.

Lucious Blair

Lucious Blair, 59, of Holly Springs, died March 14, 2007 at Methodist Germantown Hospital. He was a 1967 graduate of Henry High School, a machine operator (backhoe) at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis, Tenn.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on March 17 at Newell Chapel CME Church in Victoria, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Spencer Mathis officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Ernestine C. Blair; four daughters, Paula Machel Cannon of Japan, Lanise Eliza Blair of Holly Springs, Margie Faye Blair, Laural Virginia Blair, both of Memphis, Tenn.; six sisters, Lula Mae Hardaway of Byhalia, Dorothy Jones, Minnie Wright, Linnie Blair, both of Byhalia, Helen Hardaway, Ozell Hardaway, both of Memphis; two brothers, Curtis Blair, Frank Blair, both of Byhalia; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Vera Shaw.

Pallbearers were David Pigues, Sammie Wright, Detroit White, Kim Wright, Michael Hardaway and Johnny Hardaway Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Curtis Blair Sr., Frank Blair, Edward Runnels, Ernest B. Jones Jr., Opher Neely, Kenneth Maxwell, R.J. Wilson, Jeffrey Hardaway, James Blair, David Maxwell and Eddie Shepard.

John Dolas Dickerson

John Dolas Dickerson, 48, of Potts Camp, died March 15, 2007 in Memphis, Tenn. He was a maintenance worker at St. Francis Hospital, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of New Life Baptist Church.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on March 17 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Temperance Hill Cemetery in Potts Camp. Bro. Andy Roe and Bro. Jason Howell officiated.

He leaves his father and mother, Bro. Ed and Nell Dickerson of Potts Camp; a son, Paul Dickerson of Blue Mountain; three brothers, Charles E. Dickerson Jr. of Lakeland, Tenn., Jim Dickerson of Russellville, Ark., Jack W. Dickerson of Hot Springs, Ark.; a sister, Gail Ashmore of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; and his wife, Sandy Dickerson of Memphis, Tenn.

Lewis Bernard Haygood

Lewis Bernard Haygood, 79, of Victoria, died March 7, 2007 at Alliance HealthCare in Holly Springs. He was a member of the Church of Christ and a salesman.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on March 17 at Holly Springs Eddie L. Smith Multi-Purpose Building. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves three sons, Lewis Haygood Jr. of Victoria, Greg Haygood, Mike Haygood, both of Tampa, Fla.; a daughter, Debra O’Neal of Winterhaven, Fla.; three sisters, Betty Dunkin of Normal, Ill., Ann Gleen of Searcy, Ark., Jane Srygley of Memphis, Tenn.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Elmo Mitchell

Elmo Mitchell, 81, of Byhalia, died March 13, 2007 at his home. He was a founding member of Watson Community Chapel, owner of E.F. Mitchell Construction Company and was a U.S. Marine verteran, having served in the Philippines during World War II.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on March 16 at Watson Community Chapel. Burial was in Byhalia Cemetery. Brantley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife of 60 years, Lula Mae Mitchell; two children, Judy Mitchell Jones and Jim Mitchell; two sisters, Imogene Erwin, Rebecca Gurley; three brothers, Amos Mitchell, James Mitchell, Sonny Mitchell; four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, David Mitchell; and his brother, O.C. Mitchell.

Gabriel Ivie Owens Jr.

Gabriel Ivie Owens Jr., 29, of Holly Springs, died March 8, 2007 in Byhalia. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a 1996 graduate of Holly Springs High School and a construction worker with Lamar Construction Company.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on March 14 at Strawberry MB Church. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. Deldrick Leasure officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his mother, Nell Turner Owens of Holly Springs; his father, Gabriel Ivie Owens Sr. of Lamar; a daughter, Tyretha Warren of Memphis, Tenn.; three sons, Marcus Stewart, Travarious Owens, Gabriel Owens III, all of Holly Springs; his grandmother, Gracie Turner of Holly Springs; three sisters, Levesha Owens, Grace Owens, both of Holly Springs, Arshula Owens of Collierville and two brothers, Derrick Owens of Holly Springs, Javain Trailor of Potts Camp.

Pallbearers were Linwood Turner, Lakeith Jones, Jeffery Jones, Jason Jones, Jarmaris Lane, Jarvis Lane, Reginald Hardaway and Marcus Hardaway. Honorary pallbearers were Ezekiel Owens, Reginald Anderson, Antionio Lawrence, Colaine Brown, Ralph Hayes, Christopher Muse, Shauntaurus Wicks, Cedric Craine, Lilton Craine Jr., Micheal Lesure and Nicholas Cole.

Patricia Ruth Rowe

Patricia Ruth Rowe, 38, of New Albany, died March 17, 2007. She was a Baptist.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on March 21 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Free Springs Cemetery in Harmontown. Bro. Tony Roberts officiated.

She leaves her husband, James Rowe; three sons, Randall Byron Rowe, Wesley Everett Rowe, William Andrew Rowe, all of New Albany; a daughter, Jessica Renee Rowe, of Byhalia; her parents, Ronald and Minnie Ash of New Albany; three brothers, John Wesley Wright of Byhalia, Bryan Todd Ash of Memphis, Tenn., Arthur Lee Ash of Olive Branch; two sisters, Tracy Ann Grooms of New Albany, Teri Lynn Daniels of Memphis, Tenn.; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers were John Wright, Bryan Ash, Art Ash, Dalton Hill, Newell Williams, William Rowe and Phillip Rowe.
